I’ve laid a few before but nice to get a reminder and some new ideas in before I start my next one. Best tutorial on the net and I will be cross referencing when I give mine ago. Just a question can I use 4x2 for the joists
Great video lads! Peace!!
Come on 🫡🔥
Easy to follow and not bad to look at and listen to 😍
If a man had made that comment, there would be outrage and cries of sexism and misogyny.
@@davidpclare men make these comments and worse all the time buddy.. and I said nothing inappropriate lol if you’re offended, just love yourself 😹
@@raebae3414 you’re right, they do make them all the time and are called sexist and slated all over social media. I’m not offended, I’m not a snowflake, just pointing out the double standards.
@@davidpclare please lol do not start about double standards in a man’s fucking world where women can not do a damn thing without being judged.. and now women don’t have their own sports or locker rooms/ washrooms because men are so tired of the double standard they want to be women just so they can be on the other side lol
Brilliant video but have a question, how deep would the posts be in the ground if building a deck over soil?
Is it an idea to leave 10mm gap from base plate to wall ?
Hi, great vids and great deck. Just wanted to understand how can the board above the joist hangers sit level with the adjoining board? The galvanised straps look to be several mm higher. Do you just angle the first board back or shim the adjoining boards?
Honestly the best channel for explaining and helping people out. Top work 👌🏻
I appreciate that! 😊
Great video guys, what would you use to treat the deck - any recommendations for decking oil or similar? 👍
Excellent video with plenty of tips. Question: shouldn`t you treat cut boards with preservative? If you go to protect the joists with tape, why overlook these cuts?
As always 🙏
Brilliant ❤🎉 love this video I've finally had chance to watch it all instead of in bits can't wait for the next one ❤ are you putting any deck lights in?
Thanks Elaine 😁
Great video, thanks.
PS How's yer favver?
Great job boys. Not sure 3mm is enough gap though? When it gets wet it will completely close stopping water from escaping. 👍👍👍
Ive been watching your carpet videos great job btw. Could you do a video on how to cut carpet from a giant carpet roll like 12×113 for instance. How to measure a room To cut carpet from the roll and also how to measure and cut carpet for stairs from the big roll too? Would be a load of help to us all.
Great suggestion! If the opportunity comes up we will 😊😊
I like your videos especially your body movements, looks a bit like in a hip hop music video…anyway great content 🎉
thanks 😊
10/10............
Excellent work guys really helping my in my project iv got lined up, can I ask the question of how would secure down a decking that’s not connected to a house ? I’m doing mine at the bottom of the garden on top of an old patio but don’t want it floating as such ? So exactly the same as you did on this but not secured to anything apart from the floor
Same process but if you put some grab adhesive on the bottom of the posts (ct1 grab and bond ) will work a treat 😊
@@homeimprovements excellent would never have thot of that, even if it’s on top of some membrane?
21:05 - look at that magnificent brick work. Must have been done by Stevie Wonder 🤣
I have 2 angled walls I want to put decking along. How would I do that?
Would screws be ok to hold the hangars up instead of nails?
Great video lads, I was looking to do something similar, would I need to worry about the damp course when attaching the joist?
I’ve seen some use spacers to allow a gap down the back 😊
How did you do the end timbers on the sides of the decking?
grand job. good tips as always. don't mean to be a smart arse but should there be a slight fall on the run so rain water runs off?
1% yes 😊
So you fix the joists into the endgrain?
Can you help guys iv just put my joists in im working with 2x4 timbers but when I put a level across the joists some are higher than others. I have crowned them all up how can I get them all flat. I’m not sure how it would work if I put the decking on top off them would be uneven. Any help would be much appreciated thanks
And Phil’s gonna show you ha right na 😂
I've just finished building my new deck, I used the same deck boards as you've used, but I did a lot of research and the actual right way to lay the deck boards is deep ridges down to allow airflow. My old deck was ridges up, A carpenter did it 17 years ago, I was scourged with water pooling etc, basically it wasn't done properly. I also made sure to make it slightly higher from the house, so water flows easily off the boards. My joists and boards are opposite to yours, so running toward the garden.
Nice video, as usual. However, it seems a tad incongruent to box in all of the drains and downpipes if there is a need in the future for inspection and/or maintenance, without having to disturb and/or remove the decking or sections. Also, ia there going to be issues with bolting rhe deck up to rhe house so as to potentially be allowong water to sit near the wall, or will the render protect it? And, was there any fall or gradient considered to help witj water run off away from the house?
Thanks there where removable inspection covers for all the drains and a stop clock 5 total with regards to bolting to wall never had an issue but may modify the design on future builds to avoid just that and yes we missed that 1% fall to left hand side 😊
Ah that's super, cheers for the reply, really enjoyable videos and learned a lot from all of your efforts.
Why you have that metal/steel hanger in some joists but not all
You guys mention a 16mm anchor bolt but the link you have provided is to a 10mm bolt. is this just a mistake?
Yh must be a mistake 🙈
Nice job but is there a reason for having no fall on this deck ?
Good point but for this decking never seems to hold water (previous builds) so decided against 😊
Nice. But, decking board is upside down?
? There correct for this design of board smooth top normally up but these are grooved both sides
@homeimprovements there has been a big debate this topic over the years from tradesmen lol, but think doesn't really matter what way they are installed 🤨
Howdee!
If you watch this one mute it looks like they're all rapping
You lot are the bollocks I dont know f-all about DIY but I can chill my nut right out watching these when work and the kids etc are doing my swede in. Love it. Might get and do a bit myself one day
👏🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
The one geezer moves like he’s in a beastie boys video
Aren't the grooves on the decking supposed to be on the bottom?
They are but I’ve done decks where the customer asked to have the “stripey” side up 🤷🏻♂️
I got a couple of questions.
- Do you put a space between the house and deck?
- Why not put screws on the hangers?
-
Why do you not treat the cut sections of the boards?
Noted will do in future
? and joining onto blue brick? hmmm
12:34 ... all across the what now??? 🙂
🙈
I thought the start was a rap video
🤣👍🏼
Why would you want it 'perfectly level' ? If that's the case surely water won't run off and it'll rot far sooner than it should.
bird brain comment.. If you use the right materials, seal off the joists (as they've clearly done with the tape) and use the correct spacing, then this isn't an issue
@88kwthomas another bird brain comment. Please explain where the rain water will go if it's perfectly level? Or are you saying it's OK for the water to sit as long as the joints are sealed, used correct spacing etc
So many bird brains here, just drill a bunch of holes in it, no problem 😉
@@perfectomprgYour comment was worse than all the bird brains put together.
I would advise people not to use this video for advice.
So the 6x2 you've bolted to the house.
1. You've drilled large holes under the houses damp membrane so rising damp can occur inside the house and cause structual issues. 2. There should be atleast a 20mm spacer between the house and the wood. Water will get inbetween the house and wood and rot the wood.
3. You've made the deck completely level meaning there's no water run off. More wood rot.
🤣🤣🤣 very confident and very wrong damp is no where near the holes we drilled but nice try
The timber against the house will do just fine
It’s been hammering with rain no standing water on that deck at all
Thank you, I am building my own deck and your video will help. The only thing I wanted to ask should I give a coat of Bitumen paint to the frame of the deck and the cuts to give it extra protection.
Sure can 😊
you should also cut your decking boards at a slight angle when butting up two end joins so water and dirt can flow away better in the winter months. /\.side view of two end to end decking boards.
Boys great work... but why you always flapping your hands about
(Brad) my brothers are always taking the p out of me for it 😂😂 I don’t know why I do it
