The PBS special on traditional music kept alive in the home and community of the Queen family in North Carolina. Ballad-keeper Mary Jane Queen and her family carry on the traditions and traditional music of Southern Appalachia. In 2007, Mary Jane Queen received the National Endowment of the Arts National Heritage Lifetime Honor.

Those are my relatives too! My mom actually visited that house and Mary Jane Queen on a couple of occasions. I reckon maybe we’re related too.

Its true, no other way to describe it. Modern life isnt all its cracked up to be. Im from a small town in northwest Georgia and even it is too far removed from a truly authentic life for my tastes.

in a very shallow world where everyone just concerns themselves with keeping up with the Jones ! this gives me hope. people simple in there wants and needs rich in there roots culture and music. seriously we all need a lesson on a simple life that’s probably healthy spiritually as well as mentally and health. these folk have far more riches than kings

I live in N. Georgia. I was married to a man that was brought up with a whole bunch of Queens. Funny thing was they all had the same names. There was a Junior,Jeannette and a Mark. They were contry people and real nice. Something tells me they were probably kin to this family. Thank you for sharing this families story.🌻

I have always wished that my life was just this. Simplicity. Nature. Creativity and imagination. Siblings and family all thriving just for the simple aspect to enjoy life itself. My mothers' side of the family comes from the Prince family in Spanishburg, WV. My grandpa was Rev. John Mose Prince and Gandma was Bessie Jane Kinzer Prince. Could be family?
