I am breaking into landscape lighting here in VA as an independent, licensed electrician. Is there some literature on landscape lighting theory to know what trends to go off of, light spread and distances, design philosophy, stuff like that?

What are the lights that shine down on garage doors, what brand and the length of them?

Hmmm.... I would hate to pay by the hour to troubleshoot future problems. Whenever you bury cable, there eventually will be a problem.

Its bad advice to do away with hub connections. I have been designing and installing landscape lighting for 25 years and can tell you the HUB method was centrally about controlling input voltage to halogen lamps which had an optimal voltage window range of 10.8-11.5 volts. We still use fixtures with 25' leads and wire them in a HUB configuration. LEDs don't require that tight of a voltage window, but we use hubs because it comes down to cost and reliability of the systems we install. Underground connections are the weakest point of a lighting system and "daisy chaining" your connections adds more potential trouble spots exponentially. Connectors also cost money, and it takes significantly more time to make 30 connections vs. 5 or 6 along with the cost of the connections. As a contractor, time = money. This video is poor advice IMO-

Do you ever run the wire in pvc conduit?

What was the light you used on the front roof shining up on the windows where there wasn't a gutter? Looks like one of the hardscape lights but without the mounting piece?

I think it looks like it was glued onto the shingles. I dont see any kind of bracket either.

How did you attach the light fixtures to the gutter? Special bracket?

You use a gutter mount designed for that.

Right!?! It brings me back to several years ago, but that was the tail end of their existence.

@4:10 This is completely false. 12/2 is rated for 20 amps, so on a 12v halogen system, thats 12 - 20 watt lamps. Higher multi-tap transformers could allow you add more, especially on a 24v system utilizing a 30v tap. So many dark spots and weird shadows and the hot spots over the garage... Could have been better.

Not sure about your negative views of hubs but to me at least I have a clue where the wires are if need to trouble shoot
Second if you ever put a light on a gutter you would be fired on the spot period
I would love to hear how you locate
any problems if you can’t identify where the wires are! Are you psychic? Sometimes old school is the only school
