It's strange how I feel more connected to 1960s Disneyland than I do to modern day Disneyland 🫨
Not strange at all. It’s the Disneyland Walt intended for everyone.
Me too. I call it the wedway when I never knew it but the TTA

I hear you!
Thanks for watching! I'm aware there's a weird smudge thing on the camera for a few minutes, but it goes away once we enter the park and travel even further back in time! Thanks for always being kind and supportive, see you next time! OR come chat in the Facebook group at sometimesmob.com (shortcut)
Where are you going on your road trip?
i know the parking lot well. about 1973, i got lost at closing time when my grandparents were visiting. instead of meeting where we all agreed we would go in this case, i walked all the way out to the parked car and stood there while my family had them searching the park, and the haunted mansion on particular (my favorite at the time)/ after a while (seemed like hours), here they came. i was just a kid, but it seemed like ours was the only car around me left by that time.
Happened to me too, except my mom forgot where she parked and the maintenance guy had to drive us around. I think maybe less then half the cars where in the lot when we finally found it. I think it was 1974 lol
Your content is amazing! You are one of the original Disneyland UA-camrs, and I'm so happy you're still at it! Your videos cheer me up. Love the history of this magical place.
I love these videos that show scenes prior to DCA. I am in my 60’s and have a LOT of memories of the original parking lot, and how close it was to the front gates. I always think about that when in the esplanade area and DCA now. Great memories.
Just turned 60 myself, feel the same. Wish my grandma had taken pictures, those would be so dear to me. But as Miss Manners said (you’ll remember her :) ) “That’s what memories are for.”!
had they done away with the coupon books when you used to go? When we visited (from Wyoming!) in 1962, the coupon books were alive and well then. I do miss the Mine Train ride from back then.
Thank you, Justin, excellent piece. I was born April of 1955, so I grew up with Disneyland.
I personally like the “castle in an enchanted forest look” and I love the big trees especially on hot days. Also, I’m not too concerned about what other people think about the size of the Disneyland castle. It’s perfect the way it is.
However, there is that one huge tree by The Jolly Holiday that usually blocks the view of the Blue Fairy and Baymax during the fireworks shows that I think can be pared back a bit.
Same ideas as I do about the castle’s look. While it is impressive to see the giant castles for the other parks, neither is better or worse. In the end it’s not like the out of scale Beauty and the Beast Castle in Florida. It somehow doesn’t work.
I absolutely love that a OG fantasyland ticket booth is still in that spot to this day. It makes no sense to be in that spot but it just fits so well.I hope it legit stays there forever.
And man i miss the skyway soooo much.Whats the real reason why they took it down ? Didn't wanna keep up with the upkeep or what ?.
Justin's video on the Skyway from 9 years ago will explain everything!👍

@@pinball541 last time I saw this video was 9 years ago LOL
@@ilkvomit88- Now you can go home, & Schleep Well❕🙀
I've passed that ticket booth a million times and never realized it is a relic of the days of yore. I've been watching you for almost 10 years, but this bit of info hit me different today. Thanks for persevering and sharing your passion and expertise with us today!
I was at Disneyland back in January 1994 when a 6.0 earthquake happened. I was told that almost every structure in the park would be able to withstand an 8.0 shake due to the fact of how it's built to secure the ride your on. Each ride vibrates the structure so they made sure that no bolts or screws comes undone. Why can't the rest of California use the same blueprint Disneyland has for safety.
Cost.
First time I visited Disneyland was 1978 I was 3-1/2 yrs old. Grew up in LA and I’m proud to say I’ve passed it on to my kids. Hopefully it will be passed along for many generations to come. Been a AP since the early 1990’s. I remember when they removed the parking lot and DCA started construction had to be around late 1996 ish…. Good times. The park has changed but the magic remains. Tokyo Disney still has the old school feel to it. Space mountain is still the original version. Even that will change this year. Was happy to relive it before it’s changed.
I LOVE looking back at Disneyland and seeing how much it's changed. I always try to pinpoint where the sky buckets went through on the Matterhorn. I didn't know that one of the original booths was still there in Fantasyland. I'll have to take a selfie. I hope your back feels better real soon. Thanks for the laughs and videos Justin!
I was around 7 when they took out the pirate ship - I still vaguely remember the inside of it. The skyway was awesome - it really stinks they were too cheap to upgrade it. I'm shocked how long they left the fantasy land station in the trees before finally removing it. I still have some of the first all day passes that were hand stamped when they first started experimenting with eliminating the ABCDE tickets. You had to attach them to your shirt with a safety pin - wild times!
Awesome nostalgia 😍 I remember riding the sky buckets and the people mover, I was confused when it wasn't there anymore. Until I watched a youtube video
I really enjoy those A/B comparisons of old and new video footage. I remember many of the old school historical views, but don't have pictures-this is great. Added value comes from Justin's expert play by play commentary!
Rest up and heal! A painful back is no way to enjoy adventures!
Justin, you've been my E ticket to Disneyland from the get go. Appreciate the pace and content of your narrative. The show only got better when your honey showed up. And I've never seen people leaving comments before. Keep it up!
Looking through modern Disneyland trying to see the Disneyland of the past.. well put! I often do the same
Thanks for being family friendly and not doing clickbait
The walk , THE Walllkkk to the back of the original parking lot at the end of the day with our tired little legs felt like the longest and saddest ( because we had to leave) walk ever!!! Every time I go I tell my kids how far the Disneyland Hotel was away from the gates and no way you could walk there because it was so far....lol
These are my FAV videos that you make! MORE vintage Disney please!😀hope your back feels better soon!
I went to Disneyland this year for the first time since 1994. I was amazed at how big the trees have gotten. It used to be, you could see the Matterhorn from just about anywhere in the park. Now you can't.
Always hyped for more Disneyland time travel videos 🌠
I loved working at the flower market on Main Street in the 1970s!!! Thank you for taking us back to the good old days.
I remember the flower mart from the 70’s, probably passed by you many times ( :
Hello from a CM @ EPCOT
MAAAAAN!! How close those front gates USED to be in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's. I miss it!! The prices too. DANG.
These randomland videos have been my favorite since the originals in 2013. I feel like Justin and I have the same sentiments and experiences with Disney over the years because we're the same age and I basically lived at the park in my adolescents because my grandpa was in the band and got us in free. These time traveling videos are fascinating, the history of the park is what makes it the greatest theme park probably ever.
i remember all of that, and also, how you would have to go back to buy more tickets - there were never enough for everybody for the whole day. we would always eat at the tomorrowland terrace, and enjoy "the kids of the kingdom" gogo dancing and non-threatening rock music. saw the beach boys there once.
Wow 10 years of randomland that’s crazy! Been here since day 1! This was another great video :)
I've always enjoyed Walking threw Disneyland via Randomland. I remember visiting the park in 1971 with my parents and sister. It's wonderful to glance back. As someone who injured her L3,4 and 5. Good luck on your recuperation.
Back when Disney was awesome and about having fun and not the money. I still have a couple old ticket books with the good ride tickets missing😊 my parents saved them for when we would visit on future days
Love looking back at MY DISNEYLAND!! 1974 First visit!!
Thanks as always for the look back, Justin. You're such an awesome curator of this stuff and definitely takes me back to my childhood. Hope your back feels better soon.
Justin thanks for sharing the vintage videos. Showing how things change over time. Great work.
It was so easy and relaxing to go to Disneyland! Just like Justin said,,you could park right up close. No reservations needed. Fun fun!
Time travel video!!! I missed these!!!!💗💗
I could see the Skyway coming back someday, for a few reasons.
One, people really seem to like the Skyliner at WDW. I could see Disney wanting to bring a bit of that flavor to the west coast. The new buckets could be fully enclosed like the Skyway, which would prevent people from spitting or throwing stuff like in the old days, and could also be used for part of the illusion I’ll talk about later.
Two, the Matterhorn will have to be rebuilt eventually, and it’ll probably be in the near-ish future. The whole reason that the Skyway closed is because of structural issues that would have required demolishing and rebuilding the Matterhorn from scratch. If they have to do that anyway (and they WILL have to sooner or later), there’s no reason other than construction and operating costs (and even then, they’d have to be less than it was/is for some of their more modern stuff) that the Skyway couldn’t come back with it.
Finally, the Skyway could be used as a way to physically and thematically connect Star Tours to Galaxy’s Edge. The original Skyway connected Tomorrowland (the station for which is both close to Star Tours and is still there) to the outskirts of where Galaxy’s Edge is now. Build a new station in Galaxy’s Edge, and to avoid breaking that land’s kay fabe, tell people that it’s the Star Wars equivalent of a courtesy shuttle to the airport (read: Star Tours). They could even make the buckets look like some sort of spacecraft, and selectively obscure the passengers’ view of the outside to help sell it (remember, these buckets would be enclosed). The view would be unobstructed when passing through the Matterhorn, where an ice monster like the one on Hoth would attack the passengers, which would be tucked in a little niche so that it couldn’t be seen from the outside or while riding the bobsleds. Since you wouldn’t necessarily have to maintain kay fabe going from Tomorrowland to Galaxy’s Edge, the windows could be left unobscured for those simply wishing to enjoy the view. Alternatively, they could give passengers both options on both routes, with the operator on the Galaxy’s Edge end maintaining character by asking people if they want to take the scenic route or the faster but (possibly dangerous) one.
Love this!!!!!!
You have really thought this through, appreciated! Love immersive theming, so GE is one of my favorite lands today ;)
Michael Jackson loved Disney, and used a lot of the accents from Disney at his "NEVERLAND" ranch, to which some are still there, especially the train station area.
When I worked at Disneyland I started out as a Ticket Seller and worked not only in those small ticket booths (two of us did) but also in the in the booths inside the park, before I transferred into NO/BC Attractions after my first year.
Awesome video Justin. Can't wait to see more of these retro comparison style Disneyland videos. I will probably see you on Tuesday, the last day of Splash Mountain. I am assuming a ton of Disney Land vloggers will be there. My favorite vintage randomland videos honestly are the ones with you and Adam the woo. You used to mess with him and he clearly was a little irritated by you but he also loved you very much. Almost like he was torn
Thanks Justin for all your hard work putting out these videos. It honestly is so so enjoyable when I can’t get to Disneyland, my happy place. You and Adam and Magic Journeys keep it clean and positive and I am so thankful for you all because of that. ♥️♥️♥️
The sections in the old parking lot were named after Disney characters. I remember my dad parking in "Tinkerbell." Love your videos Justin! Your epic trip down old Route 66 inspired my husband and I to do it when he retires.
Love your Disneyland history videos, great job!
I just really luv these retro Disneyland videos. Thanks Justin and also for all the positivity 😊
Disneyland between 1955 and 1975 was at its best. The last ten years have been terrible and I don’t know if I’ll ever go back because it makes me more sad each time and that’s not how I want to remember the place I loved so much.
Happy 10 years, Justin! Love your stuff. Keep it coming! About time I bought some merch.
When I was little I remember those individual tickets. There was also an E ticket that my dad was too cheap to buy. That one got you on Everything! Then later in high school in 1979 I went to Disney on our senior trip. And a few of us went on the sky ride and smoked a J to make it a High ride. When we got off the person said. “Dont do that again “.
Justin!! Your back! I feel your pain, for real! I’ve got several slipped discs pushing on nerves and no procedures have worked so far. I give you SOOOOOOOOOO much credit (I know you HAVE TO DO IT CUZ OF YT algorithms🙄🙄, but geeeezzze). I haven’t been able to be out at all. 😢
Keep up all your insanely ridiculous videos. We love you and everything you do! ❤❤ ~ Kristina
AH YES THE SKYWAY BUCKETS!
Congratulations on a decade of incredibly fun and entertaining adventures and superlative historical adventures throughout Disneyland.🎉😊 like Tina Turner, you are the "Best" in the biz and the originator.💯👍👏👏👏👏👏👏🥇 sincerely, thank you
On this episode I remember all of those attractions and dining venues all too well, I could hardly wait to get to Disneyland to have lunch from the pirate ship, boy, how I loved my tuna sandwich😋
I really enjoyed this video. Not that I don’t normally enjoy your videos, but seeing the past in video is amazing. The closest we can get to time travel visually as VR/AR isn’t there yet.
Can I also say that I appreciate your knowledge of the parks and Disney characters overall and your on screen character? It’s why I follow your channel over all of the others.
Disneyland bigger than the Beatles. Love it!
Besides Disneyland Railroad crossing into Splash Mountain, it seems there were also other attractions that overlapped other attractions and gift shops, but I don’t remember where, but Tomorrowland rings a bell. Does anyone remember?
The people mover in tomorrowland maybe? Justin did a video of it. You could see if it's what you are thinking about. But it went into space mountain and some gift shops.
@JustinScarred I bet Walt would be IMPRESSED by credit cards!
70’s Disneyland for me!!
0:50 Yep I remember the parking lot that almost went up to the Disneyland entrance. My family would also stay at the Cosmic Inn that was only a 15min walk from the entrance. I remember when I got back from my 3yrs duty in Japan. That was ALL GONE and Downtown Disney was now a thing.
Just a heads up: the support structures that hold up the monorail tracks are called "columns" or, if you wanna get really fancy, "piers."
"Walt Disney built this place by hand out of Orange trees!" LOL! IDK, I love the trees around the hub - Magic Kingdom is so bare without them! The trees make Disneyland feel like a park. Maybe they do need to keep trimming them down though, but that makes them look bad for months - my neighbourhood looks like winter with our heavily trimmed trees having no leaves :( What's the modern equivalent of "selling people things they need off the cuff"? I'd say phone charging! I wonder if the Fantasyland Ticket Booth could be converted to those phone-charger-lockers? Or the Fuel Rods - are those still around? It'd be nice to see it have a purpose again, keep it relevant and maintained. Thanks for taking us travelling through time, love it!
Walt Disney was a genius
Eucalyptus trees are interesting! I always heard they were supposed to replace all the good california trees with a fast-growing tree but it turned out the wood was no good for what they wanted to use it for (on top of eucalyptus trees having a tendency to explode) but fast-growing trees to make wind-breaks makes more sense than people importing trees without knowing anything about them. And yes, eucalyptus trees constantly shed their huge leaves AND huge chunks of bark, and their distinctive smell is something like cat piss :)
My favourite Justin videos. Fascinating.
Justin, love your videos. Keep up the awesome work. 👍🏼
I see your point with the trees but I enjoy them. I like that they block the views of the other lands to give a more immersive feel to me. And of course they provide shade. Glorious shade. But I'm from Oregon. Near Enchanted Forest and you know how we feel about trees up here. ☺ Great video. Hope your back is feeling better.
The good old days when parking was 50 cents and we had A-E tickets! How I miss those days
Also its kinda funny as I was just at Disneyland last week and was thinking myself "wow it doesn't look as Grand with all these trees obscuring everything"
It's especially noticeable with the castle, they should really trim them down so the castle can stand out and look more grand like it used to.
Back in the day there was a picnic area outside the entrance, to the left. We'd pack lunch because food was so expensive. It was under the Monorail track!
I remember when DCA was still being built during my Grad Nite in June 2000. I didn't go back until 2006 and then I was hooked again like when I was a kid. It keeps changing!
Thanks for the nostalgia, Justin. If you have lower back pain, I would recommend two Tylenol plus one Advil for the closest thing you can take that is over the counter and basically half prescription strength. It’s helped me through many long Disneyland days
I still have E tickets. I’m glad I got to see old Disney, back in the day when my mom’s company would have Disney night and they closed it for her company. I believe quite a few companies did this
I’ve been watching your channel for the entire ten years. The first video I ever watched was the one about the Smellitizers on Main Street on the original channel. That is something like the 8th video you ever put up. Been on the adventure a long time and I’ve watched every video. My favorite (I can’t recall the title offhand) is only about two minutes long and it’s the one where you answer the question do you still enjoy Disneyland considering you go all the time “ It’s a choo-choo a real choo choo’ I shared that and many other videos. Congratulations on the last 10 years and thanks for the video. Looking forward to the next ten I’ll be watching
I enjoy watching these type of videos where the past meets the present. It's so awesome to see past Disneyland vs present. Thanks Justin for your wealth of knowledge of Disney history!
Thanks!
The memories, since they once have the Rocket Rods, along with the old rides & so forth! By Thor's Yetiwing!
Love these Disney history videos, and this one might be your best yet. Kudos!
Thanks so much for sharing this one Justin!!! 🕶🤙🏽I get a bit carried away too. I always liked riding the rides when the parade was out. It was the best.😁🤙🏽
Awesome video good 0ld days
One of your old videos was the first video that I was watching and then I learned how to cast from UA-cam to my new TV. My kids sat in boxes and rode the rides with you. Oldest is now in college...lol
I would agree, they could plant trees that can be trimmed in a way to keep them small.
I like the old Disneyland .
I took a photo of that tent where the Mad Hatter is currently was in the park model at the Walt Disney Family Museum. I posted it and few could really tell me what it is, but I think you solved the mystery.
I like to play air keytar to the ending music
I love the end music way too much😂
The entry (esplanade) between Disneyland and DCA needs trees and landscaping. Its a hideous waste of space. Disney really needs to start sprucing the park up.
I spent a couple summers in the 70’s working the parking lot. It could be completely filled in under 4 hours.
I love watching your videos! They give me a lot of joy. Keep it up :)
I am so excited to watch this
IT'S BIGGER THAN THE BEATLES!
i do like those old videos and your history of it 😀
Justin love your videos. I am a long time fan, keep on posting videos. Maybe I’ll see you at Disneyland some time. Take of that back my friend.
Loved the od days.
Love these!
“Heimbucked” lol Jeff got annoyed when I said that once lol
Thanks for the memories
THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!!
I remember in Oct 1998 they were working on the old parking lot. Stayed at the Hotel.
Adam the Woo would love this
Forgive me, but those ticket books had also an "E" ticket. Thats A,B,C,D & E tickets in the Disneyland ticket books.I still have some of the leftover tickets books.😉 The "E" tickets were the BEST rides, where as the "A" tickets were usually never used. lol Ergo the expressions we used to say back then for even non Disney experiences were "well thats an E ticket", for really good experiences, and "Mr Toads Wild Ride" for experiences that were wacky, unusual. 🙂
I think i discovered your channel maybe 7 yrs ago (always late to the party) you never disappoint! I happily have bought some merch and donated thru youtube (budget allowing) Thank you and keep up the GREAT work🤩☺PS use some heat on the back
Awesome!
TIME TRAVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel like Disneyland is a line for everything and Disney cast members are great like managers for ride ques.
Center piece for a table. lol Good stuff.
