That could very well be true. But this is what they say on their official website: "Jack Daniel's is not a bourbon - it's a Tennessee Whiskey. Jack Daniel's is dripped slowly - drop-by-drop - through ten feet of firmly packed charcoal (made from hard sugar maple) before going into new charred oak barrels for maturing. This special process gives Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey its rare smoothness."
You are kind of correct. To be labeled as a TN whiskey, the spirit must be made in TN AND be charcoal filtered. This applies to ALL TN whiskeys except for Benjamin Prichard's Tennessee Whiskey who doesn't filter but was grandfathered in. While TN whiskeys are "technically" bourbon, purest will say that the filtering process removes the bourbon naming. When JD makes the barrels for the No7 they use wood from multiple areas because the different altitudes change what the flavor is and when they make the single barrels they use wood from the same location they do some other things to make it special but when you pick up a bottle of single barrel there are a few different ones. So if you pick up a bottle and like it then get another you may not. Great review! Just been moving into Jack from Jim Beam. It's definitely a lot lighter and smoother. I'm mainly into the flavored whiskeys and the apple liquer hits the spot for me. The first time I drank it, it was so much less punchy and potent on the tongue than the Jim Beam Apple, it fucked me right up without me being any the wiser. Jack has a stealth quality to it. So smooth you don't quite realize how powerful it is until you acclimate. Again, great review though. I'll definitely be checking out the single barrel variant when I see it.
Thank you! I love Jack Daniels whisky and I love honey, but JD honey tastes way to processed or artificial for me. Only jack Daniels I was really let down by.
I tried Jack Daniels single barrel for the first time recently and I was impressed. It was definitely much better than I expected. Definitely less like #7 and more like an upper mid tier bourbon. I haven't seen the single barrel cask strength in a store, but I'm going to have to go looking for it now.
I like other liquors, such as Scotch, tequila, sometimes gin, but my real drink is Jack-on-the-rocks. Any sweetener to Jack is sacrilegious. I've tried Manahattens & Jack, honey-flavored Jack, & another 100 ways. I still come back to my Jack.
I like number 7 and love the rye. I have smelled those many times and never smelled any of those things it is like the wine experts telling of all the notes they smell. They taste great however I can not smell what you do.
Drank way too many JD and Cokes in my early twenties. Stayed away from JD for a couple decades and came back recently to try their JDSBP and Heritage. They have stepped their game up with these releases.

and its not from kentacky, thats why it cant be named bourbon but in its essence it is a bourbon. Like scotch only fomr scotland or irish whiskey or cognac only from france. And no7 on the bottle stands for the number of the bottle back in the day when they decided which bottle shape they are gonna use, there were 12 i think and they picked bottle shape no7 which we stil lgot it today.
One of the homies had stolen a bottle of Jack Daniel’s from someone’s dad and snuck it into the school. This was pre-Columbine, pre-9/11. Smuggling contraband was easier in those days as security checks weren’t as stringent, often were non-existent…
Gentleman Jack is always my choice. No7 is too harsh for me. Single Barrel is lovely but it’s a bit too strong when used as a mixer. Gentleman Jack is superb straight, on the rocks or as a mixer. Silky smooth. All that being said - I believe Jim Beam is a superb alternative to Gentleman Jack and is a little cheaper on the wallet.
Back in a dayzz I thought Jack was a top shelf stuff, because it was twice the price of the rest of the low budget stuff. I was drinking and cringing, yet feeling fancy. Like a Neil Patrick Harris in Harold and Kumar. Now I wouldn't drink it for free. Not for me.
Nobody knows what the No. 7 stands for???? Lmao! When I went to the Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg Tennessee they said the No.7 stood for the number that they have to check off in order for the whiskey to past the taste test...
I think if you were to make a list of five basic all purpose whiskeys that are good for both drinking and mixing then Jack has to be on the list. The kind of whiskey that every home bar should have at least one of available. I would also put the original Crown Royal on that list
It's strange how you said that JohnnieWalker is strong and smokey. And you say that JD no 7 is soft... i feel just the opposite. JD is nice and strong.
WHY do you HIDE the labels behind glasses? And do you not cleanse the palate between tastes of different blends? The "nose"....you mean "aroma"? Strange way of doing things.

Agree. they need to do a barrel proof and I need to get the rye select but its proffed the same at 45% .only shop I can get is asda and they are still waiting for delivery .I live uk
I drink jack honey everyday. Idk what he’s talking about. Well then again, he does have a lot more experience then me.....
To each their own...
It’s not about experience it’s about drinking what you like and how you like to drink it. There is a point where whisky stops getting better just because you pay more for it.
Jack hunny and hot chocolate that’s where it’s at!
old # 7 is cool. Will try some of the others. Good review.
Buy something else, that's the best guide. Give me an Elijah Craig, or most single malt scotches over JD any day.
You don't like the Barrel Proof ?
@@SippersSocialClub if I had to drink one from the range that's the one I would pick. It's not awful, but for the money I'd still rather pay a little more and get an Elijah Craig. Each to their own.
jack daniels uses charcoal from sugar maple and thats what disqualifies it from bourbon.
I'm new to your review but you do a great job and I will subscribe to see more videos and ratings!!! I just wish JD Black was back to 90proof where it was originally. I REALLY enjoy my Barrel Proof at 132...Mmmmmmmm good. Try the Jack Gold 27 now that it's not an export only.
Cheers from Oklahoma
Thanks! Welcome :)
Cheers!
Jd honey is the best it’s the first liquor I got drunk off of when I was 14
Thank you! I love Jack Daniels whisky and I love honey, but JD honey tastes way to processed or artificial for me. Only jack Daniels I was really let down by.
I predominantly buy Jack Daniels Black, but my overall favorite in their line has to be Sinatra. Yes, it is expensive, but oh so delicious.
I tried Jack Daniels single barrel for the first time recently and I was impressed. It was definitely much better than I expected. Definitely less like #7 and more like an upper mid tier bourbon. I haven't seen the single barrel cask strength in a store, but I'm going to have to go looking for it now.
You'll love it
I agree with most of your comments except that the honey one is so delicious I have to restrict myself to one glass a day
I like other liquors, such as Scotch, tequila, sometimes gin, but my real drink is Jack-on-the-rocks.
Jack Daniels and 7Up.
The two go together like a hand and glove. Love it!
I said *connoisseur* in my head a split second before you said whiskey connoisseur at 9:22 :O
Drank way too many JD and Cokes in my early twenties. Stayed away from JD for a couple decades and came back recently to try their JDSBP and Heritage. They have stepped their game up with these releases.
Both outstanding whiskies!
It is produced in Lynchburg, Tennessee, by the Jack Daniel Distillery, which has been owned by the Brown-Forman Corporation since 1956. Jack Daniel's home county of Moore is a dry county, so the product is not available for purchase at stores or restaurants within the county
Can't believe how many people think gentleman Jack is good?! It's rubbish, old no7 is much better.
How have you trained yourself to think a shoe polish/chemical taste is something other than poison.
Exactly.
I would like to see what you think about Jack Daniels Frank Sinatra
Haven't tired it yet
@@SippersSocialClub it's very good and it has very good history behind it as well
I had it on a cruise and found it quite enjoyable.
BEST of Jack Daniels: (Part 6) Maxwell House Bottle ua-cam.com/video/YURZoI2fSWE/v-deo.html
Jack #7 leave in freeze and take shots👍 ... Gentleman Jack mixed with Mug Root Beer👍 jack fire frezzer cold shot/ with coffee in the morning....
One amongst excellent greatest marvelous distilleries in world
I have tried the no. 7, gentleman's and single barrel (this was in 2015, the same yr you tasted it the 1st time!) and I totally agree with you! Here in Calcutta India you can't get the single barel :(
Idk what he is talking about. I am drinking Jack honey no ice just the liker with my friends and we drink like hole bottles. We love it.
I think for my tastes it's just too sweet, cheers
@@SippersSocialClub We there is a Russian saying that say (translation) "For taste and colour you have no friends" that means everyone has different tastes. Though you literally trashed it... 😅.
Good God ! You paid $24 for Gentleman Jack, I paid $56.67 US that's $79 Australian and that was a discounted price.. The tax we pay on alcohol is outrageous.
and its not from kentacky, thats why it cant be named bourbon but in its essence it is a bourbon.
Not for me.
I don't like whiskey. Makes sense I liked the Honey because I don'tdrink it as whiskey. . Guess I still don't like whiskey. But I do love whisky.
Lot 40?
It's strange how you said that JohnnieWalker is strong and smokey. And you say that JD no 7 is soft... i feel just the opposite. JD is nice and strong.
WHY do you HIDE the labels behind glasses? And do you not cleanse the palate between tastes of different blends?
The "nose"....you mean "aroma"?
Strange way of doing things.
great review man! I am Single barrel drinker for years and years ,in a pinch I can drink NO7 ... I am 34 ,as I am getting older I am trying to explore different avenues ,but I drank Single Barrel select for maybe 10 years exlusivly ,and my house will never be without of a case of it ,ever :)
and ofc thank you for your hard work :) making this review for us... I did not even know for liqueurs, guess ,they still did not made it to Europe ,but regardless , Not a huge fan of cocktails ,so I don't think I ll be buying it.I ll keep to my SB ,and one NO7 bottle ,just in case if someone that I don't like comes along ,and I don't wanna trow away my good stuff :)
i started to drink whiskey few months ago and i started with Tennesse Honey and bought Gentleman Jack today to give it a try, hope it takes better than Honey one,so i dont cry over the money i've spent on it...what's ur favourite of all jack daniels? heard they also did one Tennesse Apple one...
Lol like most samplers GJ is a Gentleman's Jack daniels a more refined mature drink unlike the workers Jack Daniels No7 hard slap to end the day unlike the Gentlemen in the club room, Lol 20yrs+ fan
I appreciate what this guy is doing, but tbh isnt whiskey a matter of personal taste? I love JD, back when i couldnt afford anything more and even now when i can. I have never tasted or smelled anything close to ‘shoe polish’.
I love Jack Daniels but for some reason, it always gives me a headache. Switched to Old Forester and have been happy; but still love Jack Daniels. Triple Mash has been good to me.
Jack is so good mixed I like it straight up but if you’re going to mix it it’s delicious it’s distinctive so even in the mix you can always tell it’s Jack
Johnnie Walker is for mixing, JackDaniels is for sipping...
You are being to nice to this crapy liquor Jack Daniel's its not real whisky its corn crap whiskey
Well all American bourbon is corn, which scores do you disagree with?
@@SippersSocialClub with all of them. Jack Daniel's should be a catergory of moonshine " i know its not molasses but that's why its called whiskey not whisky. Here is my humble opinion and please correct my ignorance if I say something stupid, however this is my opinio based on my knowledge or lack of it. Whisky its made in Scotland with Scottish regional crops (exclude corn, not a local crop there) the region there is unique, fresh air from the Atlantic ocean, delicious fresh spring water plus the regional salty soil, the intensive process and selection that what really makes a delicious tastefully and appreciative whisky. And you can say the same thing from other spirits like Tequila, original taste due to its region in mexico, not all mexico produces tequila, same with vodka, (note* Tito's its not vodka, real vodka its made out of potatoes not corn, Tito's its corn so seriously. Tito's its just another derivative of moonshine) the same goes with aguardiente, rum, guaro, including liqueurs.
Mixing nice spirits its ok, but only if you mix the cheapest of its version. Otherwise enjoy it nice and slow, take your time, dont shot it, taste the flavors and don't ruin it with sugary drinks.
@@madeinhn Moonshine is just un-aged spirit. Whisky (without an e) can mean Scotch Whisky, Canadian Whisky, Japanese Whisky. Only America and Ireland spell it Whiskey. I think you're trying to say Scotch is better than Bourbon? (I won't disagree if you're speaking generally). I don't think you even watched my review. I didn't like the Honey or Fire bottles. The only bottle I scored well was the Single Barrel Proof. Obviously you've never has it, because you wouldn't be saying what your saying if you had.
How to drink jack daniels
1 take bottle if jack daniels2
2. take 3 oranges
3 throw away oranges
4 drink the bottle neat
Honey is the best jack the other ones taste like tire
