Stinky tofu, also known as chòu dòufu, gets its strong odor from the fermentation process it goes through. The brine used in the fermentation process can include vegetables, meat, shrimp, milk, and tea leaves, and is often exposed to air for months to allow natural microbial fermentation to take place. The fermentation process can take anywhere from a few days to several months, depending on how potent the tofu is desired. Major bacteria strains that contribute to the fermentation process include Bacillus sphaericus, Enterococcus gallinarum, Acinetobacter spp., and Corynebacterium spp. . A 2012 chemical analysis found 39 volatile organic compounds that contribute to the smell and taste of stinky tofu, with indole, the main compound, having an intense fecal odor.
your food court is so big, i'm jealous. Our mall used to be filled with stores back when i moved to the area in 1993, now only half of the stores are still occupied. food court keeps changing as well. Bird's broken glasses are no longer broken, and the music sample was very good.
I love the Newark farmer's market. It's one of the few places that sells veggies that are actually cheap and they tend to sell a lot Asian veggies that you don't typically see in supermarkets.
Hi meimei. The stinky tofu gets it funk from the fermentation they use. The longer it fermented in brine which contain many items such as cabbage, tea leaves, may include meat and shrimp. The longer more funky. Much love ❤. I love all your vlogs and channels
I just listened to birdtunes on Spotify because of this and wow super impressive music production and lyrics! Great work. Also love your guys’ chemistry and relationship! Fun to watch.
Loved Birds song! I can't believe how many great restaurants at Valley Fair, it's been a while. I like stinky tofu, the stinkiest tofu I had was near Souchou China. Thank you for sharing all your food finds!
Glad you tried Joy! I go with my fam sometimes. We had their pig knuckle (I think it was called) once and that was tender and tasty. We also like the potstickers.
Eataly in L.A. (Century City) has two restaurants, the market, the deli counter, dessert counter, pizza shop/counter and, coffee counter. When you visit Southern CA again, stop by and see how it compares. There is another Eataly in Vegas, as well as NyC and, Chicago.
@@moremeimei💜🤗 Appreciate you and bird for sharing your adventures with us. I just became bird’s newest follower on Spotify!!! So excited to listen to his music. 🥳
ok wow that mall is STACKED with amazing food options!! if you're ever in the sgv area, I definitely recommend checking out the Shops at Santa Anita, they have really great food options too! bird's broken glasses 🤓
I am dreading getting new glasses because they don't make my frames anymore either, and I really like these ones. I feel your struggle, Bird! Yummy, Udon is the best! You two are really making me want to start building Lego... even though I literally have no space to display them or store them LOL. Hope you both have a fantastic weekend!!
I've wanted to try the fried stinky tofu with cabbage inside of it for so long. I saw Andrew Zimmern try it when I was a child, 20 years later the dream is still there..
I like the cannoli and the hazelnut chocolate cookies at Eataly. I also get some of the more unique items at their grocery and their to-go salads. The Pizza and Pasta restaurant upstairs is expensive, but I had the Uovo Croccante during a special meal deal week earlier this year, and it was amazing and worth the extra charge. The pastas I had at the Vegas location were always reliable too.
I LOVE MARUGAME UDON! the hot Nikutama could easily be my last meal! 😋 I live in Sacramento and me and my husband love planning a day trip to valley fair for a food day where we eat all our faves ❤ Also, everything we’ve ever had at Eataly is delicious! That goes for both restaurants at-least... Lol Love your vlogs! Thanks for the video 😊
Yay!!! A weekend of eats 😊😊😊 Loveeee a place that has fresh soy milk 😍 Stinky tofu is stinky because it’s fermented in a brine with fermented milk and veggies 😂 during fermentation process, it gets a bit fuzzy.
My favorite at valley fairs gelato place isssss that chocolate hazelnut is my favorite!!!!!!!!!!! So many good options. Just wish valley fair parking wasn’t so crazy lol
Bun Appétit is one of the greatest bougie donut places in the area (Dough Wei Me in UC is also really good). I'm glad you tried the Everything Donut, which is one of my favorites (as a sugarblood, I eat way more of the savories than I do the sweet stuff, though I take bites of my P2's). Their Kimchi Spam puff and Cheddar Jalapeño scone is fantastic as well.
i can't believe the fountain is actually chocolate! the valley fair Eataly is small compared to other locations. the restaurant on the top floor is good though, and it's fun to look at all the Italian groceries.
@@bookwrm4evr No? I don't remember which one i liked better. This is why I watch food reviews and don't make them. For differences -Texture, ingredients(?) and i think one had seaweed on the outside of the roll and the other was rice.
@@PinoIcepop haha, fair point. I agree with you on the food reviews. I appreciate that you mentioned one had seaweed and the other rice, I like details, even the smallest.
@@bookwrm4evr they both have seaweed but one had rice on the outside of the seaweed and the oher had the seaweed as the outside layer. Or at least that's what I think it was. i did also try another frozen one from a Korean store about the same time, so I hope I didn't mix all three up
Bird's Broken Glasses! I hope you get the chance to review La Pizza La Pasta one of these days. It's one of my favorite restaurants along with my partner's!
Bird should also just upload his music on UA-cam. Just throw some lofi art in the background, and I know some people will throw it up on their TV or something! Also give him proper credits, and maybe he can get royalties off of your videos!
Do you guys have the ice cream place called "Sorry not sorry"? they have all kinds of different flavors of ice cream. Their ice cream is really good😋 "Birds Broken glasses"😂

thanks for the info!!!
Yes! Fermented, like the vegan version of cheese, lol. My dad loves stinky tofu. 😊
Sample sounds great Bird!! Can't wait to listen more!

We have Eataly here in Canada as well and it is crazy expensive! Definitely not an everyday thing, but good for a once in a while splurge.
The line for that noodle place is always soooo long! Never tried it but want to! Also they have that same gelato place in Italy!

For the AFOL's in my life that LOVE minifigs, Bird just shoving his mini's aside hurt a little. 🤪☺
Thanks for the tip about the car tissue and refill! Bird's broken glasses....how did Bird get that name?🍦🥪🍜

Amazing music bird
Had both Costco (found it first there) and the TJ's kimbap ( finally got a hold of them). I cant wait for the kimbap video.
Did you like one more than the other? What was the difference? I've only tried the TJ's one which I like.
