For future airbrushing I would add the transfers before. They become more cohesive and would be walked and grimed upon just like the tiles themselves. You can also sponge some gold on them before so the look slightly chipped and worn. Just have to say I love this build and you did a great job shading it!
Thank you for the advice! I hadn’t actually thought about that. I think because I am also adding an oil wash after adding the transfers that this should help tie them in. I will also do a little bit of sponge stippling so they do look fresh out the box 🤘🙂. Thank you very much! I am glad you dig it!

Turned out awesome! A note on adding details and wear: in the course of 10000 years the most used paths will get a totally level of wear, being polished and or/eroded by tech priests and so on. Saint Peter's statue in Rome has a feet almost eroded away by "mere" centuiries of pilgrims touching it, I think it would add a layer of storytelling if some part of this diorama showed a similar effect.
Absolutely a fantastic idea and point! Funnily enough the statue of St Peter popped up on my Instagram feed the other day with a story about the work down feet 😂. Thank you very much! I will be sure to think about details like this as we progress through the project!
This is a really amazing project, your commitment to detail and managing all these parts is very impressive. If you are already planning to do this, please disregard, but I would recommend dry brushing some of the high points of the pieces, just the highest points to sharpen the look. Otherwise, please keep up the good work!

Looks awesome. If you really want gold, or any metallic for that matter, to shine, base it in high gloss black first. Tamiya’s titanium gold in a rattle can would’ve made this much faster, then being in the airbrush afterwards for some of the details
Starting to look really interesting visually. You can always remove too much oil wash with white spirit on cotton buds even the day after. All the best.
Thank you very much! I definitely feel like we are heading in the right direction! I am aware but I think I slathered it on a little bit as even with some buffing and removing excess oil there is an overall dark tint to the tile. I might run it lightly through the airbrush on the final pass instead of a brush 🙂🤘

@@imperiumnihilus I've never done anything this big but I would probably look up how to blend a cheap shade for airbrush. Alternatively maybe do a oilshade out of the airbrush? No real clue. Cheap acrylics might clog up the nossle too.
I can instantly see you are gripping that airbrush much too tightly. Your knuckles are going positively white. That way your hand will cramp up in no time and you'll have very little precise control. Try practicing by creating a few freehand airbrush watercolors on cardboard to loosen up and learn a softer grip.

Fucking Mad Lad. That's INCREDIBLE! Buying out all the wash at your local store must have raised some questions, how in the loop for this diorama are the people at your local store(s)?
Thank you very much buddy! It’s been a bit of a crazy undertaking so far but I enjoy every bit of it! They did look a bit curious and I did tell them it was for a Golden Throne 😂. I don’t think they are entirely in the loop to be fair!
I have a potentially derpy question. Looking at that magnificent model is making me wonder where the actual Webway portal fits into it that Big E was holding shut during the Siege of Terra. The lore is inconsistent to say the least! Some lore says the throne is literally suspended over a portal and other lore says the portal is all the way over the other side of the dungeon itself.
Not a derpy question at all! My honest answer is that I am not entirely sure. I have heard a few different versions in the lore. With this build I am following Neil Roberts artwork for ‘The End and The Death’ but putting a 40k spin on it. It’s not guaranteed that I will depict the webway in the end but we will see what happens 🙂🤘

doing large areas with an airbrush and with the trigger full on will eventually cause it to spatter globs of paint that will build up on the tip, this is called tip dry. At the needle end theres a little cone called the tip cap or tip guard and it can unscrew. if you do you can regularly clean it by pinching the needle tip with your thumb and forefinger and pulling the dry paint away form the airbrush. careful not to stab your fingers though and watch you don't hit your work going in close as it will bend the needle tip. if you are using an airbush stand replace the cap before putting in the stand and be careful as the caps are easy to loose :) If you are after an intentional spattering effect there is a secondary cone after the tip cap called the nozzle cap. if you take this off as well and use the airbrush it sprays a spattering of paint dots, higher air pressure will give you smaller dots and lowering the pressure makes them larger. This effect can add 'texture' if you need to make things look grimy. Maybe not for this diorama as its all gold but if you use a combination of greys, black and other stone colours this spattering makes for a great stone and concrete look. all the best mate and thanks for sharing :)
