Great work Ron! Just finished my AUQ conversion in a Mk1 cabrio. Never knew about the drivehsaft notches, need to give this a look! I've got the lefty manifold and love the tidiness with the front mount 'same side' intercooler. Much neater than having boost pipes all over the engine bay!
Wow, what a nice project and great build. Wich i did😂sold mine for 20 years back in time. Looking forward to following you! Greetings from a Norwegian subscriber.
Great video and just shows you are best to mock up. To see where everything bolts up. Big help watching these videos. Saves time for other people looking to do this swap or in a mk2 shell.
Absolutely! I'll be mocking up pretty much this whole car before taking it apart again for paint. Nothing worse than having to cut around fresh paint! Thanks for watching 😁
Brilliant job Ron!!!! This will be a nice caddy on the road!!!! I just want to mention that the bushings on the EPYTEC mounts are pressed wrong ,please correct me if I am wrong, but on EPYTEC site there are pics that show the bolt hole of the bushing down while on your mounts are up... Just a heads up,keep up the good work!!!!! Dimitris
As factory the holes do go at the bottom, but you can put them 180degrees round which gives you better clearance with the engine cover and bonnet. Lowers the engine around 20mm, there are some pics of them both ways on the epytec site. Thanks for watching 😁
Looks great. You have probably seen the videos and photos of these and the MK 1 golf's (Citi golf) getting these swaps in south Africa. Here we also have a few of these Caddy's with turbo VR6 engine's with AWD. So if you have any issues ask a south African we love these things.
Great video mate.. Good to see it going in and the problems that can arise from fitting a 20vt to a mk1.. I plan on doing my own in the near future so this is informative and interesting too
@downnoutmotors I've got a few videos on 20v Conversions on here too, on the wiring and doing a mk2. ua-cam.com/video/5CQIrwr1LYA/v-deo.htmlsi=3H4sJsOxHoFIV06i ua-cam.com/video/I8DybSD4N-E/v-deo.htmlsi=QnVydSImVi6Xn-aA
enjoying this < fitted a 1.8t in my mk 1 last year , its a great swap , pretty sure you've pushed in both your engine mount bushes in upside down , the bolt hole should be at the bottom of the mount , yours are both at the top rotating them might help your rear mount line up
Yes we do that on purpose to lower the engine so the cover doesn't touch the bonnet. We've done loads like this and isn't a problem. Thanks for watching 😁
It would yes for a full show car, but we have found they dont seem to run as cool and boil over when used in anger with just a top fill rad, and the owner still wants to race around so we advised keeping it 😁
Shame about the mount issue , not what you expect to have to do , iv a scirroco sitting to do with an 1.8t in the bay currently but not plumbed in wired , looking forward to following this build and the wiring side of things with this being ce1
Are you going to show how to wire up the engine loom to a fuse box I'm busy with a 1.8t 20v 225 swap in my vw t4 done everything else just stuck on wiring
No I might link them the video and see if they respond, epytec is a german company though. I deffo remember having this problem before on something, can't remember what though 🤔
Hi Ron I've just purchased a MK1 caddy and I believe it as MK4 1.8/1.9 diesel fitted but original engine mount on the caddy pick up as been cut off I woundering if you now if I can get conversion engine mounts to fit the engine so I can weld the original mount back in place as the engine is abit twisted and sitting high be good to talk or call some how to see if I can get out of the pickle ? thanks Luke
Epytec who made these mounts do mounts for all versions of vw engines and I'm pretty sure they do newer tdi's as well if you find out what you defiantly have. The factory mount on the chassis leg shouldn't be too hard to put back in if you get one off a donor, they're pretty distinct where they go if you look at pics of where the ridges and curves of the chassis leg are. Its hard to speak to epytec direct as they're in Germany, but retrofication have been very helpful to us in the UK: www.retrofication.co.uk/
Thank you Ron I did mean talk to you about it as.i love your videos bank on the money with information and editing the original mount they cut off is in the glove box haha I'm also struggling to find out exactly what engine it is . Is there any way we could.talk about it or send you photos for help and advise as I'm not sure what gear box to use or get for the engine I believe it's got standard on it cheers
Looking good. Are you not fitting a 9” sevo and 22mm master to help stop it haha! These Caddys brakes are shocking with the brake bar setup. Look forward to seeing it come on 👍🏻
Following you all the way out of south Africa
Thanks for watching 😁
@@SuperRon that mounts would honestly do the trick here in SA as we have huge amount of mk1
@@rameezabrahams477 it helps that you guys carried on selling them untill 2009, we stopped at 1983 🤣

Good to know the same side boost pipes are possible in a mk1 then 😁 really hoping I can make that work for a clean bay! Thanks for watching 😎
@@SuperRon yes you'll have no trouble! Keep up the good work!
Quality work on show.👌

Looking forward to the next Episode! 😁😁

Would a top fill radiator do away with the header tank? Could mean a tidier bay

Where did you get that upgraded front mount?
It's also from epytec 😁
😮

You can't source and do the same for me can you ?
The mounts? Loads of places sell them, just search up 20v mk1 mount kit. We got these from heritage parts.
one more reason my mounts are built, not bought :)
Yeah certainly wasn't ideal! Thanks for watching 😁
Ffs, could of cleaned or painted the engine bay
🤣 this is just a mock up, the car is getting a full respray inside and out but you dont want to be all this trailing around fresh paint 😁
Impatient much lol awesome work Ron !!!!!!!
