Hi Tony, watching this 3 weeks late, but interesting anyway. I think I understand you were trying for a "feel" rather than a true imitation , and that's fun to do! While I'm not a single plane guy, I do also look for aspects of a swing that I admire. Watching your swing, I very much admire the rotation in your down swing. It's fast and full even when you were trying to be more laid back. George Bryan also has that great down swing rotation. Fun to watch and try to copy. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Dash...yes I was looking for that relaxed, slow effortless feeling! I could feel it but no one could probably see it, lol. How's Ellie May doing these days?
Hey Tony I watch several UA-cam golfers and I also admire Grants long easy swing. I've always battled tension and swinging too hard. I'm going to give this a try - thinking I'm swinging loose like Grant. Thanks for the video!
nice birdie on the 1st old man... I think people can benefit from looking closely at your right forearm and elbow at set up.... nice stuff..... you really can feel how you keep the club in front of you with the right elbow hinge.... and thanks for not over swinging.... some of us get a sore back watching others... golf on!
LOL overswinging for me would be other's normal backswing! Short swing notwithstanding, I use, teach and advocate Kirk Junge's Setup 4 Impact golf swing. Check it out at Setup4Impact.com.
I have tried that...it gets me back farther, but I mishit more balls lifting the heel. Feels like too much loose movement. It really worked for Jack Nicklaus though! (Or maybe I didn't give it enough time to adjust to it.)
It may not have been longer but it did sem like you had a different tempo. Seemed like the practice swing where you were going for the feel was longer than the actual shot swing but you would be able to tell better than I would. Maybe Grant will invite you to do a breaking 50 video!
Hey Tony, enjoy your vids. Yes, your swing looks pretty much the same as always but I know exactly where you are coming from. I have just the opposite in that I take the club back too far. I have tried to shorten my swing many time and still try to keep it shorter. When I feel like I'm taking it back half way, video shows it being about the same as usual, to long. Feel and real in golf is crazy when actually seen on video but I do know that when I feel shorter with the swing I am making better more consistent contact so I guess it is what it is, lol. Keep on keepin on my friend.......
@GeezerTony My lead arm is bent at the top some not extreme. I try to stay as loose and limber with the arms as possible and thus bend my arm some. If I keep it straight it just feels to ridged and creates tension I don't want. I know that that does facilitate my longer swing some what but I make more consistent contact with power when I stay looser. Not sure it makes sense but that's golf. So much of it is just the opposite of what one thinks is logical
I think it's just that driver...it doesn't do that with my G400. I gave the G430 away today as a Christmas/Birthday/thanks for some help gift....to a friend. Now I don't have to keep getting aggravated trying to hit it!
Hi Bill, I have no idea of the lofts but I know they are strong. You could look up Paradym X lofts. My general yardages are: 56 SW (Cleveland) 100 yards 52 gap (generic) 115 AW (Paradym) 128 (Loft adjusted to that yardage from whatever standard was PW 140 9 150 8 160 7 170 6 180 (looking for a 195 club currently, the 5 to this set goes too low and too far) 3 UDI (Cobra) 200 but low...great off the tee. 5W 210 carry 3W 222 carry Driver 245 carry These are estimates based on course play. I'm getting a sim soon and will be able to verify more accurately all this.
I notice you set up on almost every shot with the ball off the inside of the club face. I've noticed a lot of guys doing that including Grant Horvat, Garrett Clark and Wesley Bryan just to name a few. Why is this. Logic would be to have the ball in the center of the face. Please explain why this is preferable.
Hi John, I can't speak for the rest of them, but in my case it's just where I hit the ball most solidly from. Kirk Junge tells me that is due to "shaft droop" in which the center of the clubhead wants to like up with the shaft at impact due to it's weight and centrifugal force pulling on it... and it bends the shaft downward and shortens the distance from the hands to the ball just a bit. it's physics. I've done this over the years not having this information, just realizing that I hit more balls in the center of the clubface by starting it there. I've been doing it so long that it now looks "correct" to me and not on the heel. Thanks for the question!
Well there must be something to it since I see other guys (mentioned above) which use this method. I do think that trying to "muscle" the ball is a mistake I see a lot of golfers use. I know, for me, if I try to swing faster I usually don't square-up the club.
Nice swing! Very loose, and appears to be on a single plan. Wrist looks flat and slightly bowed at the top. Grant Horvat-ish. I’m no where near my 20’s and can’t get near the width Grant can.
BIG TIP from me..... "I want to swing like me" ..... yup....think about that because that was said to me years ago by the greatest ever when we were together on the range....I found that when I "swung like me" I never had to fight my swing....yup....think about it and stop trying to COPY others...yup
I think if you watched the entire video you'll see that I said the same thing...just that you can pick up and emulate things from other swings and put that into your own swing. That was the point of the video.
I think Philis Metti's swing would give you better results ua-cam.com/video/h1f5n25VIsU/v-deo.html Matt Scharff's tempo is even better than Horvat's 🙂 ua-cam.com/users/shortsRDkgVdYcaZw
@@GeezerTony Yeah, I was just thinking about your comment on trying Horvat's swing, which it seems a wee-bit "rushier" than Metti's, and also, I agree Matt's more like yours indeed. That one clicked quick in my brains 🙂
No, Grant's swing won't make you a better golfer. Neither will Tiger Wood's swing or Lydia Ko's swing. Work with your swing and find a good instructor. 👍
I guess you didn't watch the entire video? It was a rhetorical question and I say in the video I'm not swinging like him. And I shot 4 under on the 8 holes I played in the video so maybe I don't need an instructor......and I am also an instructor myself. Check out Kirk Junge's Setup 4 Impact golf swing...
Awesome round
I enjoyed this. Nice score.
Thanks Mike, glad you enjoyed it!
Nice video Tony. That swinging in a relaxed mode is a good thing. Easier said than done though. 😉
That's for sure! Thanks Jim!
Hi Tony,
I enjoyed watching you demonstrate a relaxed swing. 😅
I need to try that!🙏😊👍
Thank you Steve, please do try it!
Good playing Tony! The mind is a powerful thing and this video confirms it.
It is amazing what the mind can do!

Please do a video playing against Grant using his swing.
Yeah, I'd love to! Can you set that up for me?

If you let your left foot come up a bit on you back swing you will get a deeper turn. Try it out, it works!

The practice swing is very easy to make normally long. Put the ball there and it just won't happen!

Hey GT! Are you using a G400 3-wood, and are you still using an Acer 5 wood? I think you decided that 5 wood wasn't covering the yardages you needed.
G400 Max driver, PXG 3 and 5 woods. Th Acer is a 7 wood, and yes, although I hit it well the 7 wood was not the club I needed (for a 195 carry).
@@GeezerTony I'd like my swing to look as fluid as his too. We're much older, and stiff! LOL
@@jonathansmith9705 Don't I know it!
