I'm 74 years old. Started playing at age 45. Although I'm right handed I play golf left handed. Moved up a set of tees this year as my best drives only get just over 200 yards. Played an unfamiliar course a couple of weeks ago at 6000 yards and shot 82. Last week I broke par for the first time in my 9 hole league. Shot 34 on par 36. 3 birdies 3 bogeys and a hole in one!
@@GeezerTony Glad I watched your video. I went to the range and setup as you instruct. Seemed to be good. Played nine holes. Shot 42 which is about my normal. But, I hit one drive 248 yards! Longest drive of the year. Also, I seemed to be able to move through impact more freely and less strain on my body.
I enjoyed seeing this although I’m not ready to admit I’m a senior or want to move up a set of tee’s. The thing that I think is the truest is that when a golfer acquires a bit of age the short game is where things begin to change. If wanting to get better this is the area where most strides can be made.
This is true about short game but why wait until you're a senior? I'm still holding off from getting on the senior tees though... Thanks for watching and for the comment!
@@GeezerTony yep no prob. I’m already a senior. I played with a cousin of mine in Tennessee and I was never made to feel like that in all my career. It was truly amazing the way he hit the ball. He used twenty year old club that used to be his fathers and just ruined everyone pride. Yep it’s like that. Peace and thanks for the reply.
As a 75yr old who has played for a long time, this is of great interest. I'm currently working to regain some of the distance and accuracy I had years ago with tweaks to my setup and swing, such as those demonstrated here. Thanks Tony, this was a great video.
Good video and great golf. I’m also an old geezer (73) and since I turned about 69 been playing some of the best golf of my life . Starting shooting my age at 70 and this year I actually shot a personal best 67 but from senior tees. I see you are playing the back tees. Down here in Myrtle Beach you don’t get any roll and although I can fly it about 245 that’s about what you get out of it so those long par 4’s from the white tees get tougher! I bounce back and forth between the white tees and senior tees depending on the group I’m playing with and im a solid 3 hcp. The best I’ve ever been was in my 50”s I was a .9 hcp but I could hit it 295 back then. I like your chipping method with the high hands and the little hook motion letting the club release and the ball roll to the hole! This toe down method is very reliable. Keep up the great golf and stay healthy my friend because at our age that’s more important than anything else !
Thanks Jerry, my intention for the channel is not to be totally about swing instruction, but more so about how to "play golf". Anything swingwise I may talk about can be learned by adapting Setup 4 Impact. I want to help people play better even with what they have now. I see many people that could score far better than they do if they thought differently, or used a different strategy... based on their own abilities. Click on my name and you'll see the channel and other videos I have made.

Tony, good to see you again! You gave me a lesson & played 9 with me many years ago at a course near Sanford. Your game is still great. Glad to see Set Up for Impact is still alive and well! Joe Bost Mooresville j
Enjoyed the video and you certainly hit a nice ball. I'm 74 and started using the single plane swing last year which has shaved 10 strokes off my normal score primarily from straightening out my drives, as I had suffered from sliced drives for years. What has now been hurting my scorecard, has been chipping from just off the green, so I will try the tips from this video. Wish I had come across this earlier, as here in the Toronto area, we are moving into the last month or so of the golf season.
@@GeezerTony Thanks for the chipping video. I have watched it a number of times, so now comes the practice! Reading the comments and your replies, it strikes me that you really want to help people improve their game. One of the great things about golf, is those who play, most often want their fellow golfers to do well also. So glad to have come across your You Tube channel and I have "Subscribed"
Hi there, nice play for a young guy like you! Im most conserne of short hiitting at 88 this year haha! My driving is 150 but mid iron distance is very short shots so hybrid 3,4,5 and 6 is nice to have in 100-125 yards! Play olso sw, pw, 9 irons! today! Keep swinging! Johnny D Bergh
Aloha Mr. Bergh, in 10 years I’ll be your age. I hope I’ll be able to keep golfing then. You’re an inspiration! I started the single plane about 2 years now and found it’s easier on my body. Take care and keep having a good time golfing and with the rest of your great life. 🙏 BTW, my daughter had an ace during our outing yesterday. It was amazing.
As a Canadian, I have to say that Moe Norman, is one of the greatest (non traditional) ball strikers in golf history. Some have adopted his method and have seen their game improve immensely. I on the other hand, can’t adopt to a method that causes tension and a free swing. Several year’s ago I was introduced to the “Easiest Swing” method of Brian Sparks and really enjoy the benefits of his method. At 76 yo I haven’t seen my scores drop drastically but I can now walk off the course and enjoy an evening without severe back pain. If the slapshot works for you great. Works in hockey.🇨🇦👍👨🦳
Tony, I love your game and tips. I'm 75 with a fragile lower back but enjoy playing golf a couple of times a week with my wife. I notice you address the driver like I do, near the hosel. The last few years I've been hitting many more shots off the toe with full shots. I've been working on keeping the left shoulder more square to the line at impact and releasing towards the target without pulling to the left with fair results. Getting older is a challenge to getting better at golf. Keep up the good work 👍. BTW, you would have made a few more putts if you used my Wilson MT22 putter .
Thank you James, I am actually thinking about trying a new putter just for a different look/attitude.....I like the new PXG Aallan but I really don't like the price tag! (My current armlock is a Wilson Staff though)
Thanks for posting, I do like is your 3/4 turn swing which gives you great control of the club face at impact. I do see a little bit of Moe Norman or Bryson D. in your arm set up which works well. You have also simplified your setup with your arms for the short game around the greens.
@@GeezerTony I really do get it and like what you are doing. I will use some of your teaching as I am a instructor for Adaptive Golf in Georgia. Anything that I can show a person/golfer that is dealing with physical limitations due to a stoke, disabled veterans or accidents that will make it easier for them to play golf again! Thanks again for posting your video.
Interesting video on a bunch of levels. I'm 70, been away from golf for about 15 years, had lumbar fusion about 2 years ago and am trying to pick up the game again. Been trying to use a more back friendly swing but haven't really developed any consistency. I think I need to take a look at the Swing 4 Impact stuff. I like your approach to course management. Cheers!
Hi Bradley, yes check out Setup4Impact.com. Among many other things is is VERY easy on the back...I'm a chronic lower back sufferer since my teens and now have zero back issues from golf....and I play a lot! Thanks for the comment!
You must be either joking or living in a bush somewhere. UA-cam is rammed with loud Americans who have 'the secret' . ( Oh, I get it, you are just winding us up, aren't you?)
Wow I've never seen so many negative comments on a great video. The guy just shot -2 on 9 holes! I'm still fairly young, 54, and I would love to play like Tony is playing. I guess some people are always going to find the negative.
Tony, I love the video it's very helpful. On the setup with the irons do you play everything about 2 inches back from the left heel or do you play the ball in the center of your stance?
Thanks Jon...I normally plat the wedges nearer to the middle and move the ball position forward some as the clubs have less loft. With S4I, we have a "flat spot" at the bottom of the swing arc about the size of a dollar bill so we can make good impact anywhere within that space.
I found your channel recently ad enjoyed your way of navigating the course. I play similarly but not as long. I’m 74 and hit it avg about 240 on driver. Like you the most improved is short game. I am not afraid to use any club near the green and I plan to get it close to the hole more often for par. Currently 7 WHS but trending down. I’ve shot my age many times and lowest is 2 under. I play several times a week to stay in shape. Keep the videos coming.
I've been teaching myself the Setup4impact approach for the last 5 weeks or so. The biggest improvement so far is my chipping. I hit them very clean now. Kurt shares that you will probably set up more upright but Tony you sort of hang back a little (towards your rear) with your hands actually low. That means your swing is on the flat side. Is my observation correct?
Every person does Setup 4 Impact differently...their own way. That's the beauty of it! I am taller and tend to bend more from the waist, it feels natural to me. I can stand taller, but don't hit it as consistently well from there. I admit that I have a tendency to not get my hands quite high enough at times, but that does not make my swing "flat" It is generally on plane with my setup plane, as is Kirks, albeit his plane is more upright than mine. The chipping "bonus" we get from doing all the drills is awesome, isn't it?
@GeezerTony Thank you for your reply Tony. Let me know if I'm correct: in your preshot routine you have that little back and forward swing that I like to see. It appears to me that you use it as a "feel" that is aimed at getting your hands ahead of the club at impact, just like Kurt does with students when they are shown how to make proper impact using a mini swing.
@@Allabertina Yes, it is to rehearse correct impact position before each shot and these days I'm not even aware that I'm doing it! I's just part of my preshot routine I guess.
First time viewing. Love your approach and teaching style. I’m 73, athletic, healthy and frustrated by my inconsistency. I’ve tried Moe Norman back 15-20 years ago and played great. I’m going to try this. Question, are you irons adjusted for a different than standard lie. My heel of the irons is off the ground with your setup. I’m also struggling putting (had 4 birdie putts in first 6 holes and never touched the cup). Blessings! Mark
Hi Mark, this is really different than Moe Norman, different swing principles but it does look similar at setup. As for your lie angles, if they were correct before (they should be set for you impact position while hitting) then they would not need to be changed. We are simply having you set up on your impact plane...so if you are doing that and the heel is up then they weren't set correctly for you before. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Great stuff as always....thanks Tony. On #5 I found it interesting that when you called your specific target out loud, that is exactly where you hit it. As strange as it sounds, I know for me, naming my target out loud does seem to make a difference. When I ask my beginner wife to name her target, it seems to make a difference for her as well. Have you ever noticed this or do I just have a case of selective memory. Thanks!
Todd, I think it can be true, I have said in some of my videos that I play better when making a video than when playing with friends. I believe it is because I talk about the shot, the club/yardage, and the target to the camera first. Something I don't do other than when making a video. I now understand why a tour pro and the caddy discuss so much before the player hits a shot.
Tony, Tony, Tony. You look like a guy that would try something different. When I have a put that breaks from right to left. I aim straight at the pin and I put a slice stroke on the ball and It goes straight to the hole. This is really fun. It just takes a few minutes of practice to get the feel of the stroke. Years ago, I saw Cory Pavin do this on a short put. I did this on a 50 foot put right in the hole. My playing partners couldn't believe their eyes. Give it a try. Have some fun! Tad Lamb Columbus Ohio.
Hey Tony...I really enjoy your videos, always glad when you post a new one. Since all of your camera angles are down the line, I can't tell if you employ a lot of shaft lean when you hit your irons. I hit my driver ok but really mess it up with my irons. You make your iron play seem effortless and was wondering how much your hands were out in front when you hit your irons. Thanks!
Hi Garry, check out this video I made a while back to see a face on view. We do want to make impact with the grip ahead of the clubhead...or with some forward shaft lean, that is the goal. ua-cam.com/video/gx2eYhfJ8rQ/v-deo.html
Tony, I have questions on the finish position. What determines shape of the finish position? Kirk’s is more around, even with his irons. Yours looks more vertical and appears cut-off compared to his. Does this matter? Other than the shape being effected by height, What can the shape of the follow through and finish of the full swing tell you?
Hi Phillip, I've never been a great balanced graceful finisher. I think the momentum of your motion mostly determines the finish position in addition to your flexibility/age. Kirk is 10 years younger than me and I know he does a golf specific workout training which includes flexibility training. I'm not too sure that it matters if everyone is not the same just as peoples swings are not the same even within Setup 4 Impact. You do want to finish with the weight on the lead leg, no weight remaining on the trail foot and the hands at least as high as your ear.
Hi Michael... I also have lower back issues. As for standing taller, be comfortable as long as you follow the setup guidelines. Everybody does it their own way. I am more bent from the waist than Kirk, it's just how I do it. So just try to turn the body through the impact as much as your flexibility will allow and you should see improvement! Thanks for the comment!
Also 70 and enjoyed watching this. I tried this before and felt i lost distance, but this is encouraging to watch. I'm 6 ft tall and may try to add an inch to my clubs, as you mentioned. What flex shaft do you use? Thx
Hi JK, No reason to lose distance, I feel I have gained in the 10 years since I adapted it. Most of that is due to correct technique and learning to move the club with the body rather than the arms and hands. As for flex, really strange, Driver- Stiff FW woods, reg 3 (driving iron) stiff Iron set 5-aw- reg gap and SW- stiff steel. All other shafts graphite. No rhyme or reason for this mixture, if I hit a club well I'm not too concerned about the flex. Thanks for the question!
Hi Donald, All my clubs are extended 1 inch from what they were new. That extension causes a 2 degree upright lie angle (1 degree per each extra 1/2 inch). I hit them fine so I have never checked them.
Dennis here is an old video (I may remake it soon) showing how I curve the ball. The audio is very bad, turn up the volume and I hope you can hear it! Thanks for the request. ua-cam.com/video/_1miHUvVMSk/v-deo.html
Tony, if you hit a hard pull hook, what have you most likely done wrong? I’m 79, and I’m working hard to learn this swing after 70 years with a conventional golf swing. I’m making progress, but my miss is a godawful pull hook that is not acceptable. In one of your videos, you said to place the right hand under the grip at about a 45 degree angle. When I hit a big pull hook, it feels like my right hand rolled over through impact, like a major over-the-top move with my right shoulder, arm and hand. Any suggestions on how to prevent this, or a swing thought to guard against it? Thanks!
Larry, 2 things: The right hand grip would be like if you were holding a hammer to hit a nail in front of you pointing left the nail head is on the right and you are driving the nail parallel to the ground into a board. You would not roll your hand/wrist to hit that nail, you would keep the palm facing up. You want that same feel then you make impact. Second, if you don't move the lower body, rotate the hips AHEAD of the clubhead (meaning your zipper will be facing more toward the target (well past the ball) when the club makes impact the clubface will close and the path will also go left...a BAD combination. The hips need a head start coming down before the club starts down. I hope you can understand what I'm explaining...
Thanks Tony; I know exactly what you’re saying. As I’ve gotten older and weaker in the legs, I know I’m not getting enough hip rotation prior to impact. You’re right, stalled hips is a recipe for a closed club face and an out-to-in path, which is indeed a bad combination. Not sure I can do much about it, but thanks for the reminder. 👍
@@larrybeavens7580 I consciously think about starting the downswing with my left hip going straight back without pulling on the club. I didn't have to think about it when I was younger but now the old bod doesn't want to move like it used to! Use that thought as a downswing key and let the arms go limp, leave them behind...they will catch up on their own.
Thanks Tony, will do. I’ve always had a “powerless arms” swing, but in the last few years it hasn’t worked for me. I just can’t get that left hip back and out of the way quick enough. This getting old…no redeeming qualities whatsoever. 😩
Everyone comments on that! I don't even do it for a specific reason other than that's just where I make the best impact from. It looks middle to me from address position Thanks for watching and for the comment!
The fact you can even strike long irons properly at your age without a glove blows my mind. I was a 3 handicap when I retired at age 60 in 2020 but my index has skyrocketed to a 17 due to multiple back, neck, and hip issues. Me and my pro are just trying to focus on making solid contact at this point. It’s super frustrating.
I haven't needed a glove since adapting Setup 4 Impact. Driver, long irons, wedges, all the swings are the same. You should check it out, it's much easier on the body and a very simple motion. If you mention it to your pro,,,he won't like it, lol! But you'll be glad you did. Setup4Impact.com.
I think you could have done a better job explaining what single plane looks like - maybe use some graphics to actually see the plane you talk about? But it was fun to watch you play and listen to you think out loud about the shots. Amazing that you get the distance you do without a full backswing! The course sure looks dry.
Thanks Paul..Yes the short backswing has always been with me so I guess I've learned to get speed despite that. As for graphics...I'm a one man show with editing, videoing, talking and playing so I think that probably won't ever happen here, lol. Maybe I should explain single plane better, so I'll look to do that in the future...basically it is simple setting up and making impact on the same plane as opposed to starting on a lower plane and making impact on a different plane as conventional players do, Thanks for the comment!
Kirk Junge was an instructor for Natural Golf (Moe Norman's swing, now taught by Graves Golf), he lifted the principle components, relaxed some of the harder elements and started teaching the SUFI "method". At 66, I took up the GG single-plane swing because of back problems. Now 70, I play to a 6 handicap on a 6300 yd, 132 slope course. No back issues and I play about 100 rounds per year in a 6 month season. I couldn't properly learn the technique without the help of Graves Golf and their instruction for a year cost me the same as a new driver. Getting to be a geezer is not as bad as it may seem... :)
This is just a repackaged version of the Moe Norman single plane concept. Todd Graves @ Graves Golf is the most detailed and thorough teacher of the single plane swing. I have been using this swing for about 5 years and it truly does work - especially for older golfers (I am 80). Would recommend to every golfer.
I tried graves, feet down and distance from the ball caused back pain. Switched to Kirk’s style and back pain went away. But, if that style works for you without pain, great. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
It is not...only similarity is the setting up on your impact plane. Graves teaches you yo swing exactly how Moe did it. S4I teaches you to swing exactly how YOU do it! Thanks for watching and for the question!
Hi Tony - thanks for posting this! I've been experimenting with this method for two range sessions now and it's been working as advertised; no loss of distance and my "bad" shots are much better.
hi Tony- I love your channel (and Kirk's as well) . I guess I sway in the backswing so I struggle with fats and thins. I find if I kick in my right knee in the backswing I hit the ball more cleanly . I also notice you have the same move. Do you do it intentionally ?
Tony, do you think about wrist set in your backswing? I get a little cuppy and a slice results. Seems like I do better with less wrist set. Am I on the right track for S4I?
S4I is not really about wrist set as obviously I have very little until my downswing. This is one reason my backswing looks so short (and it is). About halfway down though I have a more than 90 degree angle between my lead arm and my clubshaft. It's not anything we teach, it's just what has always been natural for me. So no, I don't think about it at all. S4I is about setting up on your impact plane and achieving correct impact with the hands leading the clubhead. Thanks for the question!
Hi John, There is one scheduled Sat, Sep28. If you can't make that date, contact me through Serup4Impact.com, instruction tab and we can figure out some alternative. Thanks for watching!
IDK…. Wish he would go into more various shots such as, side hill, uphill, ball position, rough etc. He pretty much only shows stock shots. Level lies with the ball sitting up all the time even if it’s in the rough. Sorry I didn’t get much out of this.
Thanks for the idea. I will make a video showing all this! But first we do need to learn to hit the stock shot and that was what this video was about. BTW, I didn't explain it all as I was playing, , but this course was very hilly and I had a good number of sidehill and unlevel shots.
Hi Tony - I'm an old geezer golfer too - 76 yrs old. I've been watching your videos and learning a lot. I've been told to walk more by my doctor to help with my cardio and arthritis. I noticed you have some really nice golfing-walking shoes. Can you tell me the make and model. Thanks!
Hi Eric.....yes I love to walk and the feet really need to be comfy, therefore I do not wear golf shoes unless it's wet and I need my waterproofs. What I have are just some comfortable Skechers sneakers....I do not believe we all need golf shoes to play golf. Just be careful walking down a steep hill with dew or rain! Thanks for watching!
Really great stuff T! I notice you have more distance from ball at address than KJ. Is that a lie angle of yours & his clubs or something else? I too have the “lefts” most of the time. I def catch it more towards toe, maybe not lining up with heel of club enough
Kirk does stand closer to the ball than I do, so his lie angles are upright I think 4 degrees to accommodate his impact. Its just each of our own personal way we do it, not everyone looks or even swings the same. Most of my "lefts" are not toe balls, but just solid hits that are slight pulls.
Yes unless I open the clubface...hands ahead lowers the leading edge for impact on the clubface rather than on the leading edge...you don't always need to "use the bounce" especially if the arc of the clubhead is very shallow. Thanks for the question! My 56 degree (my most lofted club) only has 10 degrees of bounce. I like it that was for very tight lies such as dormant bermudagrass.
Hello Geezer. I live in Fayetteville. Have not played gold at Carolina Lakes in a long time. Maybe we could get together and play 18 one day. Let me know
Do you mean without practicing it? You can give it a try, but what we teach is small repetitive correct movements that create a new habit so that you don't need to think about it. Give it a shot, you'll probably see improvement right away!
I'm 59, and I love watching a golfer that I can actually relate to. I've worked hard to get down to a 12.5 handicap over the last 3 years, maybe the set up for impact is worth giving try. Thanks for the enjoyable content Tony! Got yourself another sub!
Thanks Jimmy, definitely it's worth a try! If it's not convenient for you to take a lesson or get to a school, sign up for the online training with Kirk Junge at Serup4Impact.com. It's very affordable, a years worth is less than a new driver!. You send video to Kirk for his review....it's how I learned it 10 years ago! Good Luck!
I have not had any lie angle adjustments to any of my clubs. I have added 1 inch of length to all of them however (tall guy, short arms) which makes them all 2 degrees more upright than whatever standard was. Thanks for the comment!
For the very simple reason that is where I hit it best from! I never knew I was doing that until I saw videos of my swing. From address, to me, it looks like it's in the middle so I guess over the years my subconscious had made it look right. There is no specific swing theory reason why I do it, and I don't teach others to do it.
I had been a good player when I was young (low single digit) with a homemade swing, but getting older prevented that swing from being effective due to loss of strength, balance, hand/eye coordination, etc and I lost my game completely and was ready to quit when I found Kirk and S4I. I do not have an official handicap but it is probably scratch or 1...at 70 I can still play comfortably at 6500 yards, and still expect to shoot par (although I don't always, lol). Thanks for the comment/question!
Geezer your game is the best proof for Setup4Impact. Folks in the Carolina area would be crazy not to look you up if they want to play the best golf of their lives. I know I am & I’m sure glad I hooked up with you and Kirk to make that possible.
Well John, I hope it's not too bad...we never knew to use sunscreen when we were young. At about age 55 I developed melanoma cancer on my forehead, They caught it early (due to regular checkups) and now I get checked twice a year....so far so good! That was 15 years ago...I wish you all the best whatever the issue is!
150yds uphill and you used an 8 iron! So you can hit an 8 iron, on the flat about 160+yds? Really? That is some awesome striking. I’m a 3.9 index and hit my 8 iron 142 / 145yds.
I'm a 0.4 index but these are game improvement, loft jacked irons and I'm not too proud to use them, actually I hit these better than any irons I've ever has. Yes, stock 8 is 160. I have a new WITB posting tomorrow including how far I hit each iron.
Not even close to Moe Norman...there are many differences to Setup 4 Impact. The only similarity is the setting up on your impact plane. Thanks for watching!
@@alanmartins6349 Why not tell me the key positions/movements in the Norman swing, then I'll explain the differences in the S4I swing. It will be a good debate!
Having done a Graves Golf "Moe Norman" course, I can also see similarities between the swing models. However, Moe would set the club 12 to 18" behind the ball at address and would finish the swing with more weight on the front foot with a noticeably bent knee. I can't see exactly how much tilt Tony has at address, but I get the impression it isn't as much as Moe. But I think Moe would be far more impressed with Tony's swing model than the modern "post up", body coil method. :)
Only 250 secrets........lol. I've watched 10,000 + videos everything from Austin to Zen The only 'secret' is ........The Ball ISN'T the Target.! Getting your subconscious mind to stop hitting at the ball is another thing.
So true, this is why S4I has learning drills without a ball, do you can focus on the motion without thinking about what might happen with a ball. Thanks for the comment!
Aye, there is no secret to golf. All you have to do is TAKE LESSONS. If you think you'll figure it out at the range, you are a target for all the secret sellers.out there.
Right off the bat You start with golf jargon- 'Turn it over a bit' What does that even mean? I'm sure it's self evident to You, but Your stated goal of simplicity seems to be at odds with use of jargon
No Problem...I think 99.6 % of people who play golf know it means to draw a little bit. It is a very common golf phrase like "hit it thin, cut it, fade it, etc. Thanks for watching!
One thing is for certain my friend, you don't have the answer, nobody has the answer to age related golf. You change one thing and something else changes, if not straight away then over time and you are back in the shit like you always were. When you were younger you could hit it a distance , you aint doin that no more and that is for sure and certain. But thanks for trying!
I actually am hitting the same distances...as I lose speed due to age over the last 20-30 years, the tech keeps me where I am. I never said I had an "answer" for anyone, the video is about how I play and how I'm playing better now than when younger. Thanks for commenting!
@@GeezerTony My aim was not to disparage you or your efforts, personally but to point out that hundreds of these videos pretend to give oldies back their distance when in fact they can not to that. If you are an exception, fair play to you and good luck with it, but you are an exception! Keep it up!
The "secret" is the Setup 4 Impact" golf swing....but really the point of the video is that there is no secret. Pretty sure there is some instruction in the video. The other 96k+ viewers must have seen it......
The setup is similar but Setup 4 Impact has a different swing...body rotation vs lateral movement, straightening lead leg into impact vs bent left knee at impact to name a couple. And nobody is saying it's new, Setup 4 impact has been around for years too.
It's fine if it's not your cup of tea, not everyone likes the same things in life. Seems you know as much about Moe Norman's swing as you do "golf jargon". The setup looks similar, bit there are many difference in the swing. Check out this video, this is what I learned from this instructor, and what I now teach. ua-cam.com/video/fkDniqDE21s/v-deo.html

Wow, out of the 1000+ comments, you're the second one that said I talk too much...maybe I should change how I make my videos just for the two of you. And it's "too much, not "to much".
Bryson sets up for a single plane but when he actually swings at the ball, he's as conventional as any other pro. This single plane swing swing only worked for Moe Norman and it was because of his unorthodox grip (palm grip) and swing. It's impossible to take a conventional grip and swing single plane.
So what does Bryson do exactly that keeps him from being single plane? You don't have to swing like Moe to be single plane. There are different conventional swings. Why not different single plane swings? If you set up and make impact on the same plane that is single (one) plane. Thanks for the comment!

I was down in that area when stationed at Bragg. Awesome.

Thanks for the comment and congrats on all the goof golf! Play the tees that you have fun from!
Very enjoyable video, Tony, thanks for doing it and I hope you do some more.

Hi Joe, glad you found the channel! Good to hear from you!

Hi Dustin, there are a couple as always but mostly positive! Thanks for the comment and for watching!

@@sionnachog894 I get a lot of clients mid 70's in age and a lot of them can still hit it 230 or more....it inspires me to see that!
It just takes
a few minutes of practice to get the feel of the stroke. Years ago, I saw Cory Pavin do this on a short put. I did this on
a 50 foot put right in the hole. My playing partners couldn't believe their eyes. Give it a try. Have some fun! Tad Lamb

You are a long hitter by nature and have good follow through. Bad lower back and hips limits my follow through
Hi Michael...
Great stuff. Keep up the good work.
Great round. Cheers from Australia 👍

Also 70 and enjoyed watching this. I tried this before and felt i lost distance, but this is encouraging to watch. I'm 6 ft tall and may try to add an inch to my clubs, as you mentioned. What flex shaft do you use? Thx
Hi JK,
No reason to lose distance, I feel I have gained in the 10 years since I adapted it. Most of that is due to correct technique and learning to move the club with the body rather than the arms and hands. As for flex, really strange,
Driver- Stiff
FW woods, reg
3 (driving iron) stiff
Iron set 5-aw- reg
gap and SW- stiff steel.
All other shafts graphite.
No rhyme or reason for this mixture, if I hit a club well I'm not too concerned about the flex.
Thanks for the question!
Hey Tony great video i have a question for you are your clubs flat or upright and how much thanks 👍
Hi Donald,
All my clubs are extended 1 inch from what they were new. That extension causes a 2 degree upright lie angle (1 degree per each extra 1/2 inch). I hit them fine so I have never checked them.
Could you show us how you shape the shots

@@larrybeavens7580 It is better than NOT getting old though!

Appreciate your input on the video, but don't know how you hit drives that well when you set up with the ball inside the heel of driver.
Everyone comments on that! I don't even do it for a specific reason other than that's just where I make the best impact from. It looks middle to me from address position

How do you do the shot tracer animation thing ?thank you very much. I need to do that.
Shot Tracer Pro App...it's about $95 a year...I do it on my PC, they also have a phone/tablet app.
Maybe I should explain single plane better, so I'll look to do that in the future...basically it is simple setting up and making impact on the same plane as opposed to starting on a lower plane and making impact on a different plane as conventional players do,
Thanks for the comment!
Tony Kirk’s swing is the best thing out there.
I agree! Abd it's so simple!
At any rate...it's better than NOT becoming a geezer! Thanks for watching and for the comment!
I am short and when I try this I feel like I have to stand up more and have a hard time. setting my wrist
Glad you're playing well and....GO HEELS!
I tried graves, feet down and distance from the ball caused back pain. Switched to Kirk’s style and back pain went away. But, if that style works for you without pain, great. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Nice video. Is this method close to Todd Graves/Moe Normans?
It is not...only similarity is the setting up on your impact plane. Graves teaches you yo swing exactly how Moe did it. S4I teaches you to swing exactly how YOU do it!
Thanks for watching and for the question!
Hi Tony - thanks for posting this! I've been experimenting with this method for two range sessions now and it's been working as advertised; no loss of distance and my "bad" shots are much better.
Great to hear Martin! Stick with it, you'll be happy you did!
Thanks for the comment!
hi Tony- I love your channel (and Kirk's as well) . I guess I sway in the backswing so I struggle with fats and thins. I find if I kick in my right knee in the backswing I hit the ball more cleanly . I also notice you have the same move. Do you do it intentionally ?
No, I didn't know I was doing that! Now I'm going to have to take a look at it! LOL!
Will you have any 1 day golf clinics this fall in NC. Thank you

Don’t you lose bounce by pressing forward around the green?
Yes unless I open the clubface...hands ahead lowers the leading edge for impact on the clubface rather than on the leading edge...you don't always need to "use the bounce" especially if the arc of the clubhead is very shallow.
Thanks for the question!
My 56 degree (my most lofted club) only has 10 degrees of bounce. I like it that was for very tight lies such as dormant bermudagrass.

Good Luck!
Hello..do you happen to have the lie of your clubs adjusted either very flat or very upright?
I have not had any lie angle adjustments to any of my clubs. I have added 1 inch of length to all of them however (tall guy, short arms) which makes them all 2 degrees more upright than whatever standard was.
Thanks for the comment!
@@GeezerTonyThanks.
"It didn't turn over much"? What does that mean???
Can anyone out there answer this question for James? He hasn't learned his golf terminology yet.....
Why do you address the ball with the heel of your driver and not the toe?
For the very simple reason that is where I hit it best from! I never knew I was doing that until I saw videos of my swing. From address, to me, it looks like it's in the middle so I guess over the years my subconscious had made it look right. There is no specific swing theory reason why I do it, and I don't teach others to do it.
You play well and you may feel like your doing single plane but I don't see it. You even show how to do it and then proceed to just set up normal.
Normal how do you mean?
Geezergolf I like what u are talking about, but tell me this what was your handicap before u told this up? And what is it now? Love your work
I had been a good player when I was young (low single digit) with a homemade swing, but getting older prevented that swing from being effective due to loss of strength, balance, hand/eye coordination, etc and I lost my game completely and was ready to quit when I found Kirk and S4I.
I do not have an official handicap but it is probably scratch or 1...at 70 I can still play comfortably at 6500 yards, and still expect to shoot par (although I don't always, lol).
Thanks for the comment/question!
Enjoyed the video. Thanks for disclosing your “secret!”
Thanks for watching George!
Geezer your game is the best proof for Setup4Impact. Folks in the Carolina area would be crazy not to look you up if they want to play the best golf of their lives. I know I am & I’m sure glad I hooked up with you and Kirk to make that possible.
Not to be a downer, but I'm 73 been playing for 45 years, fair skin, Use Sun Screen, I never did, got the bad news last week.
At address with your driver the ball appears to be lined up on the heal of the club. Is this a special approach?
Hi Tom...I'm getting a lot of questions about that! Nothing special about it for anyone, it's just where I hit it the best from.
Thanks for watching!
150 yard nine iron? This is not your average senior golfer. Most weekenders can’t hit a nine 150, much less a senior
Hi Bob, attribute part of that to my loft jacked game improvement Paradym X irons!
Thanks for watching!
@@GeezerTonywhat’s your opinion of the Paradym Smoke HL irons?
@@robertrich5774 Honestly I don't know anything about them, never tried them, have never seen them. Sorry!
Amateurs' dream, age shooter^^!😊
My dream is to shoot under par every time! Just a dream though!
No secrets is right, I got to be good at chipping after chipping 100 balls a day for about 3 months. That was the secret if there is one.
Nice editing.
Lol
Dear 74, at 79 I would like to play you for $. You would need to give me one stroke per yr. I need the money
I prefer Tropicana
Yes. I watch his channel too....
Doesn’t look single plain to me
What does single PLANE look like to you? What makes this not look like it?
Thanks for your comment!
Just a copy of the Moe Norman swing
Not even close to Moe Norman...there are many differences to Setup 4 Impact. The only similarity is the setting up on your impact plane.
Thanks for watching!
@@GeezerTony Oh lord really? ok we'll go with that. It's the Moe Norman swing no matter how you try to cover it up.
@@marcusdePog There are similarities for sure...
Only 250 secrets........lol.
I've watched 10,000 + videos everything from Austin to Zen
The only 'secret' is ........The Ball ISN'T the Target.!
Keep it up!
OK, so what’s the secret that you’re willing to put on the title no information no instruction no nothing just watching you play golf
The "secret" is the Setup 4 Impact" golf swing....but really the point of the video is that there is no secret. Pretty sure there is some instruction in the video. The other 96k+ viewers must have seen it......
This is just a Natural Golf swing perfected by Mo Norman. Nothing new to see here.
The setup is similar but Setup 4 Impact has a different swing...body rotation vs lateral movement, straightening lead leg into impact vs bent left knee at impact to name a couple.
And nobody is saying it's new, Setup 4 impact has been around for years too.
Stopped at 10 minutes- It's just a rehash of Mo Norman. If U like it fine, not my cup of tea.

You need better communication skills... being honest
I'm not a professional speaker...just a guy who plays golf and make videos as a one man show. I don't expect to be taking steps to improve my "communication skills". I hope you can live with how I talk. Most people can understand what I'm saying.
@@GeezerTony as long as you are happy with your results is what matters!!!. the best tony

The most pointless video I've seen in quite a while. Nothing of value, to much empty chatter. 🤐
Wow, out of the 1000+ comments, you're the second one that said I talk too much...maybe I should change how I make my videos just for the two of you.
And it's "too much, not "to much".
Same old same old.
