It does my heart so, so good to see these guys -- idols of my youth -- still making great music, still looking well, still sounding great. Keep on, keepin' on you guys....
& now nearly ten years later Jorma has been streaming live shows every week from the Fur Peace Ranch throughout the Covid pandemic. Still looking & sounding great.
Agreed and jorma can even pull it all of on his own. Hot tuna was never not great. I loved their early 70s electric stuff too but my favourite hot tuna performances lie in the mid 2000s with barry
What a gift, they are way past the point where they are doing this to pay the bills. They love us, as much as we love them. Go see them every single time you can. They never disappoint.
I have been lucky to have been around long enough to witness many incarnations of Hot Tuna and they just keep getting better and better-acoustic and electric. The addition of Barry over the last ten years or so adds another four dimensional window to Tuna's sound and in case one didn't notice, this rendition of Good Shepherd displays the craft of their musicianship rather well. Hot Tuna is a national treasure. Why they aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is unbelievable.
In the summer of 1979, Hot Tuna was on a break and Jorma was touring solo. I caught him at JB Scotts in Albany, NY, that July. The place could hold around 300 people and there were only 50 of us there. Jorma played a 2.5-hour acoustic set. Genesis blew out my mind. Still the best night of picking I ever heard.
Jorma and Jack. What could b better? Saw the Airplane 50 yrs ago at the Avalon in SF. A most TRANSCENDENT night. Talked 2 Grace 12 yrs ago in FLA; same irreverent iconoclast. RIP Spencer Dryden and Paul Kantner.
Jack's website has nice tributes to Paul and Marty - And early Airplane female singer, Signe Anderson - who died the EXACT SAME DAY as Paul (weird, right?) Signe was replaced by Grace, as I've heard it, right after a double-bill concert of Grace, then with The Great Society, and The Jefferson Airplane (with Signe at the time) somewhere in 1966 (I don't remember the exact date, sorry!) Wikipedia says that Signe's last concert with the band was in October of '66, and a quick check showed that the only Airplane album she was on is "Jefferson Airplane Takes Off" (Other than maybe some guest spots later on - I'm not sure what's out there in "unofficial" recordings!) Paul and Signe's can be found about halfway down this page: www.jackcasady.com/page/4/ and Marty's (written by Jorma) is still on the main page, a bit more than halfway down. www.jackcasady.com/ Jorma also did a nice writeup on Paul & Signe here: jormakaukonen.com/cracksinthefinish/?m=201601 And this is Marty's here, top of the page (with neat photos!): jormakaukonen.com/cracksinthefinish/?m=201809

What a range of emotional expression has been packed into this-older-than-dirt gospel song! It was my favorite track from the Volunteers album; but now age, wisdom and comfort are flowing out of the tracks. Couldn't be better!!!
What a great performance just as tasty as can be especially with Barry's fantastic solo.Barry is one of my all time favorite mando players such great tone and note separation with perfectly fitting improv to the melody.I hope these guys stay together for a long time,it really cant get any better!
UA-cam, the song from the advert directly after this 11 minuter jamming session, was Barry White, My everything. Instantly. I love Barry White but, you need to sort that shit out.

I saw Hot Tuna freshman year of college, fall 1972. Loudest concert I ever attended! It's so wonderful to see them now. Jorma and Jack have aged so gracefully. Great mando solo! Thanks for posting!

In this new era of music I find myself returning to you guys for my inspiration in playing and writing. You guys will never know what your music has meant to me...in my life!!!
I had the joy of seeing Hot Tuna years ago in Cleveland Hts. I creep up close to the stage to see better. What an amazing concert. One of the best I have ever been to. Thanks for all of your music. Still hitting it!
Very nice performance of one of my favorite Jefferson Airplane songs; one which I might have thought an acoustic version would fall short of the mark for lack of that signature electric riff. Yet, you guys pulled it off, and with a cool jam - quite a flourish!
Just Fantastic - Jack and Jorma and the boys is National Treasures! See y'all at the Beacon for Jack's 70th! BTW: "Jorma wails and Jack hacks!" Forever!!
Wow. Absolutely beautiful. The lyrics may come from angels but the instrumental is heaven itself. Thanks to all who bring this timeless recording to us.

Revisiting after a long, long time. Good for the soul in these crazy times we are living through.

Idols of my now
Jorma and John Cassidy played my senior year in high school at a break. Peace and love.
Its great to see that after all these years not only is the music great, but Jack's eyebrows still play along with the band
& now nearly ten years later Jorma has been streaming live shows every week from the Fur Peace Ranch throughout the Covid pandemic. Still looking & sounding great.
He got me thru the worst of it. ❤️❤️❤️
The addition of Barry Mitterhoff on mandolin is really the cherry on top of Hot Tuna.
Would have loved to hear Papa John on this too. He'd be about 102 today. Hard to believe he's been gone damn near 30 years.
Agreed and jorma can even pull it all of on his own. Hot tuna was never not great. I loved their early 70s electric stuff too but my favourite hot tuna performances lie in the mid 2000s with barry
Artsy and unadorned.......never was that beautiful old song so well rendered. Jorma's voice is great! Thanks for sharing.
Been listening to this tune since 1969
One of my favorite of songs Jorma and Jack brought to the Aiplane, beautifully rendered here.
I wish I could feel the way Jack looks when he's playin' :)
Nothing tops acoustic Hot Tuna!!
What a gift, they are way past the point where they are doing this to pay the bills. They love us, as much as we love them. Go see them every single time you can. They never disappoint.
Just saw them last night (march 31 2018). Timeless. Still true to their calling. How blessed they are, how blessed we are.
Jon Stanton omg saw them on NYE - what a treat
Those hippie geezers still got it! Great long rendition!
I have loved this song since it was recorded when I was a teenager. It feeds my soul.
This is what legends are made of...
👏🎗💟💛💞🎀
I love that song and the whole Volunteers record
This shit brings tears to my eyes............ been there seen acoustic & electric many times... but this is top shelf
I love these guys so much, Jack and Jorma... It just doesn't get any better. The mandolin is a sweet touch, too.
WOW!!!!! 3 GUYS MAKING REAL MUSIC,,,,, VERY VERY WELL.
End of Aug 2024 and Jorma and Jack are still with us.. awesome sauce

Soothing and relaxing....... Peace ✌️

Very nice performance of one of my favorite Jefferson Airplane songs; one which I might have thought an acoustic version would fall short of the mark for lack of that signature electric riff. Yet, you guys pulled it off, and with a cool jam - quite a flourish!
