I was lucky enough to be born in and grow up in San Francisco in the late 40s, which made me old enough to participate in and appreciate the music scene of the 60s. I have been playing bass consistently since the late 60s and site Jack Casady as my first influence. I lost count of how many times I have seen him play with the Airplane and its many derivatives. Totally coincidentally, I now play in a guitar and bass duo. Since both of us have back issues, we call ourselves the Broken Back Blues Band, but perhaps a better name might be Cold Lox, as we are both Jewish. Great music from two unbelievable musicians. Inspiring for those of us who are in our 70s and still playing live (I'm 74).
Lucky You !! I'm nearly 10 years Younger... We used to Dream about the Music scene of the SF hayDays... I've yet to GO & Visit LA & SF but it shouldn't be long now until I make my way to the West Coast and see all these places I've been meaning to visit !! Santa Fe... and maybe carry on to Mexico
Last time I was at Fur Peace, at the Tom Rush Show. I saw Jack outside before the show, by my surprise. He was thirty yards away nothing between he and I. Our eyes meet I saluted at attention. He looked at me shakin his head ever so slightly and smiled. One of those cherished moments, like having a “Hot Tuna” melt. The Quarantine Covid shows were heaven sent 48 shows plus or minus, last was outside… I missed the final show of Hot Tuna…at the Ranch I RECALL November 2023, it sold out toute sweet, but there I was in spirit. “Old buddies” Thank you.
So many years enjoying the music of Jorma and Jack. First saw Hot Tuna in the early 80s. Those were special days. Still see them when I can. Thanks for the music, gentleman.
@@davidhealy7743 Really? Does Stevie still dance around on stage like she used too? I can say this because I'm 5 weeks older than Stevie! And this is all my generation and youth too!@

A couple of years ago I stopped at the Stone Pony in New Jersey and had a look at who was gonna be playing. The bill was full of tribute bands, and there in their midst was Hot Tuna, the original. I couldn't stay in the area long enough to catch them, which I dearly regret, but that memory still brings a smile to my face. You guys are legends, no doubt about it.
I remember Jack having a room in his parent’s basement with a fabulous record collection and owning a matching Fiat to his brother’s. He actually had a talent then that was meant to be acknowledged by the music world. Happy for him!
I used to listen to the Jefferson Airplane a lot and They were my absolute Favourite Band of the early 70s !! Beautiful Melodies and PowerFull at the same time... their Lyrics combined with their Music were a Good mix for me !! My first LP was Long John Silver... foolishly I gave away all my best albums of the Time
Not to mention the album Sleeve which could be assembled into a Cuban style Cigar box... but it wasn't Tobacco inside... Post the answer here if you happen to know what was inside 😊
I could never stand Jorma Kaukonen's electric playing but that first Hot Tuna record really opened my eyes to what a wonderful acoustic player he is. Lovely stuff.
Heard them play their magic at Filmore East many times, with nand without the rest of the crew. Love them still. Jack's guitar is twice as big as he is, but still a master.
I got to sing Happy birthday acapella to David Bromberg in front of these two characters on a night when all three of them were joyfully yeah enhanced.
They sound great. Their voices appear not to have changed much. Still remember buying their burgers (hot tuna) album in glorious analog vinyl. Original LP still in my rack. There is way too much evil in this world. It's tough to cope. The good old days are gone forever. Hate to be such a cynic, but my eyes still see.
I've been saying the exact same thing for years. No one can do the things Jack n Phil do on the bass. These guys blow me away. Ive been screaming, TURN UP THE BASS! since my 1st JA album n my 1st GD one.

No matter how old he gets, it seems like Jack will always be the coolest guy on stage.
Coin toss, come ON
He is so happy to just be present and make and be the music. No ego.
A match made in or close to heaven. Like this song.
I was just thinking that these were guys who defined cool 50 years ago.
"If you don't know Jorma, you don't know Jack." Truest saying ever.

Some 3-4 years ago, my son and I drove 400km from Montréal to Waterville, Me, just to hear Jack and Jorma.
Didn't regret a single km!
Two music legends doing their finest work together. Duos never grow old..just get better.
Classic early Airplane!!! Two of the best musicians from all generations.
It alway's amazes me HOW MUCH MUSIC THESE GUY'S PRODUCE, with just two instrument's !

Nahh… they’re old. Still beautiful though : )
May a younger generation discover this.
The thing that truly makes life worth living, is music.
It is beautiful to still hear these two play after a lifetime of their lovely music.
Jack Cassidy & Jorma two of the very best” simply”!!!👍👍👍

Brovo, our country was upside then Kantner and Grace et. al. were the glue.

Jack Casady's eyebrows should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And the Smithsonian.....
I will never forget you Jorma my 1st live band when I was 14 Hot Tuna!
No better song on a Sunday morning and no better artists to render it.❤
Saw them many times back in the day, 1969-1972 when I was at university in San Francisco. Happy they are with us still!
Thanks for the music and memories gents!! Jamming together forever!!
Bought the first Hot Tuna record around the same time as my first guitar, 1970. That was a smart move!
I've enjoyed these characters since around '66 and they have always thrilled me. Consummate musicians and people. Amazing, just amazing.
Amazing! One of the best band sixties/seventies years
I love you guys I saw y’all live with Papa John Creach back in the day. Absolutely amazing.
Saw them recently at Carnegie Hall. Still peerless.
I love you, Jorma, but I can’t keep my eyes off of Jack.
😊♥️
Probably my favorite JA track.
What a treat! I love the acoustic electric base!
He can move to a mariachi band later in the evening with it.
Can’t quite make out the name on the head stock. Anybody know what kind of AEB that is?

These guys are true magicians. This is beautiful stuff. Brings back the best acid memories from the 60's.
I love playing that song. It’s a great harp part. Tampa, Marcus and I played it often. Thank you sirs for the keeping historical music alive 🙏💙

Wow! Unbelievable. Love the Airplane's psychedelic version as much as life itself.
I'll never forget Jorma's screaming wah-wah pedal for the rest of my life
Changed my life in a way.
Either Jack shrunk or his bass got bigger! Love these guys - first show i saw when I moved to SF in 1977 was Hot Tuna at Bimbos 365 Club.
Best spinoff band EVER. May they play forever.....
This song is also the highlight of 'Volunteers'
Just beautiful
Man I love these two guys.
what a great rendition of this song, I was fortunate to see jorma last year at merle fest, awspme performance
beautiful piece of work...
Love Jack's sound
Just the best!

The size of Jack's bass! Looks like a custom made. Love Jack!
It is. It's Diana 1, named after his deceased wife. There is also a Diane 2 and 3.
@@weezerptooie926 thanks I was wondering about the maker of that bass, as a fan of the acoustic bass over typical electric bass.

Jack Casady and Phil Lesh… two best living bassists today.

Absolutely and wholeheartedly agree!
Both of those guys would admit quite readily and gladly that they will be taking a back seat to Ron Carter. Among others.

With Mary Ann Dietrich and her two brothers to New Paltz, New York …, 1976? - 1977? was it? Packed gymnasium concert. So long ago.
HFT ! Two American treasures !
Whats lost in all of this music, is Jorma's unique voice
Present at the creation, the original scouts, with Grace, drank at Sweetwater 1971
They’ve been playing together since they were kids in Northwest DC
that`s the good old jeffersonj airplane
Hot Tuna !!! Both one good sheperd!
Love them both, but I’m totally tripping on Jack!!🖖🚀
Love the sound of that acoustic bass. Wish the vocals were more clear.
The audio is the sound in the room, not from the mixing board.
3 video versions of "Blood stained banders" are available on you tube right now. Highly motivating lyrics.

Jack at 6:18. And on. Soloing. Tap your foot and count 4. Nice.
