Thank you Philip for not just talking about different types of mics but also including budget alternatives. My mom has spent years honing her home cooking skills and I'd like to try recording her cooking. I'm sure she'd appreciate the lavalier mic not getting in her way!
I KNOW!!!!! DAMMIT!!! I went back and forth on it while editing. After I uploaded the video and watched it I was like damn, I should have cut the music. Thanks for watching man! I hope it was helpful!
The audio of his voice is out of phase. That means that the waveform is reversed for 1 channel of the 2 channels from the stereo audio. If you play it on a mono device such as a lot of phones both channels will add up and cancel each other out. If you plug in earbuds or a headphone it will sound weird, but at least you can hear his voice.
Great video....I got a used shotgun mic off the Facebook marketplace for $25, and I just this week I got my hands on a blue yeti for my voice overs. I love that you're doing the upcoming phone series. you don't need a fancy camera to make a good video, just like you don't need to be a chef to make amazing food :)
Hey Philip! Excellent video - and I also love the music which is nice and chilled out. :-) One question though.... at 3:15 you're showing the mic on a pole close to yourself and you're saying how good it sounds. I agree, it does sound clear... but then at 3:36, you cut back to the "normal" sounding audio of your video, which sounds ten times better? So I'm assuming, that you're using the audio from the mic on the pole and then editing that sound with software to get your "normal" sound? Does that make sense? I'm wondering what you're doing to that audio (recorded by your mic on a pole), to make it sound professional? Thanks!
When I cut back to the "normal" audio at 3:36 im using the lav microphone which is clipped to my shirt. I actually dont use any audio editing software for my audio.
@@PhilipLemoine Thanks Philip. So you're saying that you prefer the Lav mic over the Shotgun mic - it sounds way better to me also. What video-editing software do you use?
Hi, I mostly do outdoor cooking videos and live close to highway. I don't have any microphone and thinking of investing in a good microphone. Base on my situation which microphone do you recommend? Thanks
So a dumb question, do you use both the shotgun and the lavalier mics when recording the videos, how does that break down in editing. I have a moderately priced shotgun mic and I always forget to turn it on before filming...may need to get a director
Thank you for the advice. I bought the PowerDeWise and made my first two cooking videos. For some reason, sometimes it puts a buzzing noise on my videos, so I will edit that out (if I can).
This was a great video and very informative. I’m in the process of helping my brother create a cooking channel and this definitely gave some great insight.
For outdoor cooking videos with a boom and shotgun mic set up. Can you just connect the shotgun mic to the dji pockets mic2 wireless transmitter I stead of running a wire to the camera?
Very informative video Philip. Which video editing software do you use for creating your cooking videos ? Would you recommend the Rode Go Lavalier microphone ? I don't want to use Boya BY-M1. It has quite a number of issues. Hence looking out for solid alternatives. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Hi Phillip. Looking for a lense for my future cooking videos. Can you recommend a few? Which includes for the b rolls and wide angle shots(talking/full kitchen). I’m so glad that I found your channel! Thank you so much!
Hey philip, great video! I'm planning to start a bbq channel... Will the shotgun mic work outside, or should I go for the lav mic? I still don't plan on being more than 3 feet from the camera, just worried about wind/space
Do you do any voiceovers for any of the videos? I shoot the videos and do not talk while filming. There are too many variables at my house to record the audio simultaneously as the video.
Now a days food recipe videos record only pure crisp sounds of eggs breaking, whisking, mixing, pouring sugar or milk and no other sounds or music or voice of the chef also. What mics or sound recorders do they use if you could suggest please.
I found a type of microphone from another brand, it is COMICA . I don’t know it is available to replace for RODE now? Because I am making some cooking videos, so I want to know whether the “COMICA” brand is useful for the audio or not. Now I am considering comica vm 20
Do you have a good recommendation for those who use their phones to record or go live? I want to get rid of the hallow audio - I have found my ear pods OK but I think a lav would be better?
Lav is best price/performance you can get for recording voice. Keep in mind tho it's onbody microphone, it won't do that good recording far away events like car racing, crowds or ambient sounds. It also records from any direction so you cant focus your recording on the point of interest and will have a lot of unwanted noises from whatever is close to the mic
Hi there, I am thinking to buy Rode video microphone ll I want to use that for my asmr cooking video, i have a doubt , when we record the video of cooking in the camera and the sound on the mic, will the sound sinc automatically when we upload the video to the editor ? Or do we need to edit and add the sounds according to the clips... Thanks and waiting for your reply.. Subbed ❤
Hi Philip, thank you so much for your video, really inspiring! do you think the Rode Videomic NTG or other shotgun mics will work best for Cocktail Making Demonstrations/Cooking Classes? Overall I really like to crisp audio from a Shotgun or pencil mic over a Lav, but open to hear your recommendation based on my specific situation. Thanks so much. Ciao from Italy ;)

Hi Phillip, i just discover your channel, great video on mics, if i have 400-500$ budget for a Mic what would you recommend for a cooking channel? Thanks bud!
I was thinking about a Rode NGT4+, what's your thoughts? now i run with a cheap Lav mic the sound is ok at best but sometimes the mic fail like at the end of my last video... very frustrating when i only see it in editing
My second question is that the audio quality on this video is way better than on your 1.3m views cookie video! :-) What did you change between the cookie video and this video?
Need to cut out the background music.. VERY annoying to hear the track loop about a hundred times. The music detracts from your voice and I had to jump ahead on the video to get the main points as the music and volume .. it is realllly annoying.. to me anyway. I want to listen to you.. not background music. Good content n tips .. keep it up.... kill the music.

From 2:54 to 3:36, there is literally no audio, other than the background music.. I'm guessing this wasn't intentional..?
Thank god I am not the only one
At 2:55 the audio sounds really weird. Like the audio has gone from mono to super wide and alien sounding. Why?
yeah, looking forward to a video on script writing :)))) Great stuff!
