Wow… the number of people saying “that’s cool but can I use it for something completely different and not at all related” is absolutely ridiculous! Some people’s kids… This is great! I always wanted to do this on my old 98. But I never got around to it. And now both my Burbs are 94. So I’m going to make a bracket to replace the vacuum pump with an alternator.
Could you do a video explaining batteries wired in series and in parallel. HMMWV's (which use the same motor) have very little in the way of electronics as a base model, but they run a 24 volt system, with either a 200 amp alternator or 400 amp. Aside from more weight, is this setup providing any benefit? This 24V, 2 battery setup has the capability to power all sorts of commo equipment, but for driving purposes does it provide any benefits?
Enjoyed the video. Part of me wants one of those fancy new overlayed versions, but, at the same time, the other part of me is very satisfied knowing I already have the OG prototype 😎.
After reading all the comments looks like you could start a whole new business making everything these boys are in need of, even to the point of converting the compressors to air pumps. Although they're not very efficient as air compressors. There's a lot of better versions made for the air bags setup, and they even have high pressure tanks for the extra capacity needed to actually be useful. Just a thought is all, use to live in Cockrell Hill over behind the old drive in turned bus depot last I heard.. Cousin still lives there, and another one over by CHPD. That part of the world sure has changed over the years, but then so has the whole metroplex unfortunately.. Traffic is as bad as Houston, and getting worse by the day. Take care, and nice to see someone still using the old suburban for the right reasons. I remember when there use to be a company that always had a conversation very similar to that back in the 80's at fair park every year. Wonder what ever happened to those folks. Stay safe tread lightly, by using bigger tires, with lugs like tractors. 😂
Howdy Cockrell Hill! It's fun making small parts like this that solve a problem. Same thinking as you on the compressors - ARB and others have that figured out pretty well, so I'm not adding anything meaningful to the mix. Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you're here.
So for give me for asking but what function does the extra alternator have? Is a special thing to GM trucks?? I honestly have no idea. Great video as always 👍🏻. Amazing looking part too 👊🏻
Wait, you are running dual alternators and you love to weld, but you don't set at least one of them up to have a welder on your truck? Merlin's Old School Garage has a video of how to set up a welder/110 AC outlet on your truck in case you break something on the trail and need to weld it back on to make it out!
It’s strange right? In the past, we’ve just used a 24V welder or a rechargeable battery welder for trail repairs. But, those setups have some limitations.
Do you build any brackets for the 6.2 diesel? Mine has the V-belt, but it eats alternator belts. Really would be better if I could run dual V-belts on the alternator.
I've been aware of the OEM version, but never really looked into it. The additional alternator goes in on the driver's side? I have a '93 and a '94 and the OEM alternator is on the driver's side for each of them with the alternator feeding the driver's side battery and the starter being fed by the passenger side battery. I'd have to look to see if there would be room to mount a passenger side alternator with my setup.
Do you make one for a Cummins isx ?? It's in my motor home and it be great to have two alternators!! If not can you or does everybody make it for that motor?
Does this work on a 350 Chevy? Also I’d like to convert a compressor for a onboard air setup. I have no fabrication equipment. I’d be interested in a bracket and how to video on converting a AC compressor. I think that would be a cool video

That surprised me, too. I sure wish your serpentine setup was easier to work in a bracket, because I’d make one of those, too.
@@WillometMotorFab I think it’s actually gonna work out well. It’s just a matter of having it on a stand in the shop to be able to get it fabbed up.
@@WillometMotorFab Add me to the list of "shut up and take my money" if you find a way for pre-96 peoples. My '92 K3500 feels left out.
This is my favorite channel bro. Thanks
Glad you’re here. 👍
In typical fashion, better then factory!
Thanks dude. Just trying to do my best work.

No, a 400 amp alternator is much bigger than these two, and is sufficient to run just about anything you can imagine!
I have one! Just need to get it installed 😂.
Another low serial number. 👍

Serial number 001 buddy.
I need a bracket for a YORKS Air Compressor on my 97 CCLB with the 6.5. I have the unit but finding bolt on brackets are next to none!!
Very nice!
Thank you!

It’s just more charging capacity and redundancy. Lots of trucks have them available.
👍😊

I’ve seen a lot of folks use CUCV brackets there. I only made these for the late 6.5.

There’s more detail in the video, but this is for the 96-00 accessory drive.

I only make this one for the late style 6.5.

I doubt it. This is designed for the 6.5 bracket system, which is a completely different platform.
@@WillometMotorFab I don’t know anything about the 6.2/6.5 I didn’t know if they shared parts with the gas platform
@@kylewest100 completely different engines, so the brackets wouldn't cross over
Can you run it with out the vacuum pump
I don’t see why not. I don’t run a vacuum pump. There are multiple idler positions to help with different belt lengths.
Sooo, do u make em for a 98 gas? Im runnin a 383 repower. Wanna have electric fans tho....
I don’t. I’m not even sure if it was an option. This duplicates and improves a factory design.
To bad it won't work for my 95
Yeah, that setup didn’t have a dual alternator option that I know of
Would this hold a sanden 709 air compressor??
I don’t know. Probably not. It’s intended for the CS130 alternator.
Thanks. I'm trying to setup onboard air using a repurposed sanden 709
