The old man was less about trying to make Loki feel less special and more that he's not going to stand down to regimes like him which he had faced before in Germany.

Jackson didn't like how spear and followed him around the world to attempt to get him to put it down, all the while William Shakespeare trying to let him know that he was wearing his mother's drapes, hoping that he would correct his fashion faux pas. In the end, it was all for naught, because the jolly green giant proceeded to beat the crap out of Loki, causing him to musically wimper.
That old man is the biggest badass in that movie. Stands up to the madman with the magical spear, and doesn't even flinch when Loki shoots at him. Edit: Apparently a lot of people agree with this

I think that the old man ,when he said to Loki “there are always men like you” ,thought about his experience and about the history of Germany:The WWII and the Cold War ,he lived the horrors and the pain.He thought he had to stand against Loki to stop the history from repeating itself. But that is my opinion And I love the tune
