    I love these videos because I feel like you're giving people what is actually going on in the mind of a skilled guitarist vs what would ideally be going on in the mind of a skilled guitarist. I got that impression from day 1, and my playing has gotten better way faster than it ever has before. You give off the vibe that you really want your viewers to play guitar better instead of wanting to seem like a great player to your viewers. You're a fantastic teacher

      yea same man. I had to actually look inside and realize I was jealous of how much fun he was having with his own self and words (all of those emotions were packed into my action of labeling him as a "goof"). And THEN once I realized I was the problem, I similarly realized that he was doing an awesome thing by allowing us to see what he has to say about music. Your comment so resonated with my own experience I just had to chime in. Thanks Sean, the Hack Daddy 🤣

    Hallmark Sean, I learned a lot of Hendrix chops from taking your advice and practicing on Bflat major. Can you explain the Am shape with Hendrix embellishments, and the EMaj shape with Hendrix embellishments and navigating the fretboard with the D shape 5 frets away? There are minor chords in between that are easy to slide to. I mostly navigate with the Em shape but play it to substitute a Dmaj7. Likewise I play the Amaj shape and and aim for strings 2,3 and 4 and let the Hendrix embellishments take care of outlining the chord.
    I think Jimmy Hendrix put his thumb over the top so he could see where he was on the fretboard by looking at the dots and navigating with his thumb. The sloppy playing of Jimi Hendrix that you referred to is exactly correct because he played passing notes and outlined chords and keys but he navigated quickly enough to not land on dissonant notes. Show us that you are a baller and play Hendrix style with abandon. P.S. Major 7 chords don't sound all that great.

    HA! I think you’re definitely a way cool dude but when I heard you talk about candy crush I was like I never really pegged him for a candy crush guy but hey maybe he plays it here and there in between waiting for flights when he’s traveling or something no big deal (run on sentence lol) . And then when you said you’ve never played I thought oh thank thank you Jesus I’m not out of the loop. . I’m not hating on anybody that plays it I just never have and I think it’s funny you haven’t either. But you definitely had me going. Thanks 4 the musical guidance vids

    I really enjoy your lessons, thanks! Can you do a lesson as to why the 1,4, 5 chords in blues are 7th chords? In most music those chords are major chords and I am curious why?

    • @MrMixolydian7
      @MrMixolydian7 2 роки тому +1

      It’s related to the blues scale in which the 3rd and 7th degrees (notes) are flatted. In the key of C major the 4 chord (F) has an E flat as the 7th. Same for the 1 chord having a B flat instead of B natural. The 5 chord remains a dominant 7th chord. Sean may have a better more precise way of explaining it. That’s just my $1 - $0.98 ☺️

      @@blastosist Keys are just PITCH...it's easier if I explain it in
      C MAJOR/Amin.
      When you play in the KEY of G MAJOR/E min..
      You can use the fret board like a SLIDE RULER.
      Dont worry about the key board or circle of 5th
      it's as if you're starting from the 5th ( vi chord)
      If you want to play in F# min/A MAJOR..
      Just slide every up 2 frets to the F# min chord
      G min/Ab MAJOR....ect
      Anyways....BASIC CHORDS/TRIAD are just every other note ( NO MATTER the scale. You get what you get...they are what they are.
      The MAJOR's scale intervals is ALWAYS your REFERENCE
      from any CHORD/MODE..ROOT to ROOT
      C, E, G, B, D, F, A, C, E,....ect...ect
      C E, G, B......................................B is a semi tone or maj7 to C
      ....................F A, C, E.....................E is a semi tone or maj7 to E
      .........G, B, D, F...............................F is a whole stem or b7 to G
      MODE terns simply HELP you identify INTERVALS faster.
      if you know the BASIC
      ion ( MAJOR)
      lyd = Ion #4
      mix = ion b7
      aeo = b3, b6, b7
      dor = aeo maj6
      phry = aeo b2
      loc = aeo b2, b5
      The other scales are just this
      You just vamp it over the vi chord or RELATIVE min
      Harmonic min = aeo, maj7 = A min D min E7
      melodic min = dor maj7 = A min D7 E7
      harmonic min b2 = phry maj7 = A min Bb lyd #6
      melodic min b2 = dor b2, maj7 = A min Bb lyd #5, #6
      D harmonic min #4 = A min Bb lyd #2, #6
      or its just.....1, 3, 5, 7 ( maj7) or 1, 3, 5. #6 ( same as dominant)
      .....................1, #2, #4, #6 = half dim
      In a nut shell you could play Bb as Maj7 , dominant, min7 , min/maj7
      ...dim....or..aug 1, 3, #5
      You can also vamp those different modes over these chord degree...
      The 5 black notes that's NOT in the C MAJOR scale
      b2........b3........b5.........b6......b7
      Db.......Eb........Gb.........Ab......Bb
      If you use C Harmonic MAJOR ( ion b6)
      ion b6....dor b5.....phry b4 lyd b3 mix b2......aeo b1.....loc bb7
      Convert Ab aeo b1 to Ab Lyd #2, #5
      A harmonic min
      B loc maj6.........D dor #4.........F lyd #2.......G# loc b4, bb7
      In a nutshell..
      2, 4, b6, 7 ...chord degree over lap. ( possible FULL diminished)
      You can stack a maj3 BELOW any dim chord to obtain a dominant chord
      B dim/G....... D dim/Bb..........F dim/Db........G# dim/E
      G7.................Bb......................Db...................E7
      ......................Bb......................Db = N6 chords.
      or that so call F whatever the hell note/chord...while in E min ( b2 of E min)
      it overlap..
      If you use full dim H/W scale
      You can also play MAJ, min. dominant. or dim chord every b3 interval
      The trick is to alter the .....2, 4, b6, 7 into whatever the hell chord you wish
      They also over lap in other keys from C MAJ/A min
      example the 4 chord of F# harmonic min or Gb harmonic MAJ = B dim
      ......................2 chord of Eb harmonic MAJ or Eb Harmonic min = F dim
      MaGIC..you can also VAMP it over the I or vi
      A min......C min....Eb min Gb min G7 into C MAJOR
      The G7 acts like the N6 chord to Gb/F# min
      or
      A min Gb min C dim Eb min E7 into A min
      E7 is sort of like N6 to Eb MAJOR or Eb min
      That's why you want to get the BASIC DOWN first..
      before you play jelly beans between chord that's NOT in the MAJOR scale.lol
      b6 Harmonic MAJOR
      b3 melodic min ( same as dor maj7)
      b3, b6, Harmonic min
      b3, b6, b7 NATURAL min
      the scales are just
      b2, b3
      b2, b3, b6
      b3, #4
      b3, #4, b6
      b3, b5
      b3, b5, b6
      There's 7 modes in each scales.
