Hey Thomas, I was extremely flattered for Doug to trust me to swap out his 53 P-90's for a trio of Lollars. Doug's tone is way through the roof, not to mention his awesome chops! Many thanks!
Wow! Sounds like directly from an old T-Bone Walker record, especially at 0:58. Was thinking for quite some time what pickups might fit best on my cheap Ibanez archtop to replace those lifeless humbuckers. Finally my search has come to an end!
Well, humbuckers are not an option for me. I want to get as close as possible to the old sounds. What you do in this video nails it. I know, installing a dogear into a humbucker routed archtop is a tricky job. But I think it is worth trying. I believe it's a matter of shaping the shims. I will screw them into the four original humbucker holes and screw the p90 with very short screws into the shim only. Thus i don't hurt the guitar with extra holes and the process will be reversible.
Well... I hope Doug Deming had enough sence to hold onto those old pickups so that a potential future buyer will have the option to revert the guitar back to it's 1953 configuration for it's full collector's value.
Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna check this out. B.t.w. all of the combinations that include the bridge pickup on Doug's ES-5 sound off phase. Did you swap the magnets of the bridge pu or is it just the wiring? I notice the same sound in some early Freddy King tunes and definately in T-bone's recordings.
Where did you find THAT...! I hear a little T-Bone Walker there in your playing. Also some Chuck Berry and a little Howlin' Wolf too. I wouldn't go on the road with it, too valuable. It'd get stolen quick...!
Very nice.
My favorite tones are with the middle pickup. My dream guitar...gotta have one someday!
The originals sounded good..the Lollars sound spectacular!

Killer tone!

This guitar sounds incredibly good.
See. Cool sound, really!
This is the Standard wind for a set of Three.
Thanks!
Many thanks! Also used a Mogami 2524 cable and a Victoria amp (not sure which model).

Just a quick heads up: Lollar makes a P-90 in Single-coil for Humbucker Pickup.Check out the Lollar pickups web site under Humbuckers.
Thanks!
Sounds great on that beautiful guitar. What was wrong with the original pickups?

Just a thought. if your Ibanez is routed for Humbuckers, you may want to consider a set of Lollartrons, or Imperials, or Regals.
Thanks!

I wired the neck pickup out of phase with the rest...
b.t.w. are these Lollar's "50's P90's" or the regular ones?
Hi cat.
