      +DrR1pper that's actually pretty stupid.
      1. If something is demonstrably true, and there's evidence for it, you don't need to believe it, since it's a fact, you just know it to be true. I don't need to believe in something I know, that's redundant:
      If I know it's raining, do I need to believe that it's raining? How is that belief adding to my knowledge?
      2. Something is believed simply because it has been asserted repeatedly. That's what a belief is, something that has been repeated enough times that it has become truth-like, i.e dogma, traditions, beliefs, ideologies, and other cognitive phenomena that are based on the confusion between causation and correlation.
      If I pray for rain, and enough times that I prayed it rained, without any prior understanding of precipitation and weather pattern, I would be tempted to believe that praying can make it rain.
      He didn't say anything insightful. I don't know how this got so many likes, it only sounds smart to somebody dumb.

      Gareth Mensah " _1. If something is demonstrably true, and there's evidence for it, you don't need to believe it, since it's a fact, you just know it to be true. I don't need to believe in something I know_ "
      - Based on my understanding of how knowledge and belief relate, i do not agree with your assessment. If i am not mistaken, knowledge is a subset of belief. You do not need to know something is true in order to believe that it is true (though it would be preferable ofc lol). *However* to claim to know something specifically implies you also believe that said specific something is true/exists.
      " _If I know it's raining, do I need to believe that it's raining? How is that belief adding to my knowledge?_ "
      - I think i address this in the above but to reiterate with your example, to *know* that it is raining is to imply that you must also *believe* that it is raining (regardless of whether you are consciously thinking or affirming to another about your state/level of belief in whether it is raining or not).
      Why is this true? Well, would it make sense or is it even possible to claim to know something and not believe it to be true/exist at the same time? I at least cannot think of an example. If you can, i would love to hear it.
      " _He didn't say anything insightful. I don't know how this got so many likes, it only sounds smart to somebody dumb._ "
      - Fucking hell, lol. Condescending much?
      My initial comment quoting him with me ending it by saying " _what a quote_ " was simply me affirming my admiration for the way he put it so elegantly (imo). I wish i had such a way with words as he does. But if you think i'm dumb, that's fine, you're entitled to your opinion and you can believe what you want. lol.
      Fyi, not that it matters ofc but i happen to hold a first class masters degree with honors in aerospace engineering. I have at least one other friend from uni who went on to get their PhD despite being quite dyslexic and no doubt you would most probably accuse them of being dumb if you saw them type a comment on youtube. I think it's kinda of a shame that you're so quick to judge a book by it's superficial covers...actually you've not even done that....by analogy you've misunderstood and misrepresented the cover entirely.
      Anyways.....dumb fuck (i.e. me) signing off. Have a good day/night. :)

    • @DrR1pper
      @DrR1pper 8 років тому +3

      Gareth Mensah Btw, (scientific) facts are nothing more than bits of reported/confirmed observations and reported/confirmed observations can still be falsified because 99.99% of the time it is coming from someone else or some group of someone else's (.e.g a consensus). Neither of these sources are infallible. Heck neither are you if it were you doing the confirming/observation. We are all capable of making mistakes.
      My point is, when you accept some fact (which to reiterate is nothing more than a piece of reported/confirmed observation) to be true, you are necessarily also *believing* that it is true.
      But like i said in my previous comment, if you think i'm wrong i would love to hear your thoughts.

      Any racism here is on an individual basis, and is neither an epidemic, nor systematic. There has and always will be individuals or even groups of people who are racist. Racism is eternal, and at some level exists on every populated square mile of this earth, and again always will. This includes overt racism. It's pathetic when people like you hold the belief that "overt" racism is unique to America. Racism is a "human" thing which is bound by no borders. I know that racism certainly exists, you and I could drive around this country together for months or even years, and any examples of racism we seen would be extremely few and extremely far between in relation to the norm. Racism is absolutely the exception and not anywhere near the rule. You seem to be a white liberal apologist, most likely a doom and gloom, negative pessimist.

      @amatrex 5 років тому +16

      Indeed, when you think about this quote, it makes perfect sense. A great example of this concept can be applied to the NFL. The vast majority, if not all, of the 32 current team owners are older, white men. it's unlikely any of those white billionaire owners in their 60s, 70s, and 80s have much in common--culturally or politically--with young black men between the ages of 22 and 30. Yet over 70% of the league is comprised of young black men within this age range. So regardless if the owners actually like black people or not, they still give them contracts because they're consistently the best athletes available to help their football franchise be successul. And more success will ultimately lead to more revenue for the team owner! .

      Think again about race and poverty, how the myth of the underclass stems from your own subjective biases rather than the stream of social data and analyses by those who prove Sowell wrong (Adolph Reed being one of them). Think about how it was the Republicans that pulled everyone to the right after the 1960's and brought about the neo-liberal focus on identity politics instead of class that the Democrats had already been working on with things like the New Deal (which created the American middle class and the most prosperous era in American history) even as it also championed women's rights, gays, and other vulnerable people at the margins of society. The progressive left is way ahead of you on these canards and half-truths about poverty and race. We can get right down to the bottom of things right here and simply say Sowell is largely hostile to communitarian values and a strong supporter of individual values, far beyond what is healthy. All these arguments about slavery and discrimination follow from that premise. Despite his claims to be only about facts, his views are in fact nothing more than jazzed up Milton economics and Reaganite attitudes towards government and society, and both of these have been shown to be failures in America's pathetic response to COVID and the democratic protests in comparison to other countries. Sowell's own assumptions about a culture of poverty have been proven wrong by the likes of Michael Katz and Adolph Reed. He skips over the socialist policies and the anti-socialist policies in the 20th century that shaped the social patterns among poor blacks that he cites. And of course, he continues to drone on and on today about the current economic crisis using the same dogma that propped up the Republican party over the last 40 years and is now paralyzed by its utter failure. Sowell, you really have nothing useful to say now that neo-liberalism has been exposed as a corrupt, broken order.

      Bryan Cruz Exactly. Today, education is somewhere between indoctrination and mere preparation for markets and industries. I think education should be only about thinking and problem solving, because if there is a fundamental problem within markets themselves, it won't do any good to just keep pushing kids inside them. They should instead be able to rethink the markets and create new ones, think out of the box. Any smart person knows education is pretty fucked up and needs complete replacement. It is already happening actually.

@@Sinleqeunnini Sorry, your verbose and bombastic speech was high on hyperbole but offered no strong facts. It was the Republican Party that ended slavery. Democrats, sometimes called Dixiecrats, opposed emancipation, reconstruction, school desegregation, voting rights. LBJ did not want to sign the Civil Rights Act, Democrats filibustered it. The only reason the welfare state was created was to perpetuate Black dependence upon government, to which LBJ replied, "we'll have Blacks voting Democratic for 200 years". Unfortunately, it worked, only as far as the voting aspect. In all other regards, all devices the Left and Democrats have implemented have failed. Busing caused nearly every American city to go from majority White to majority Black. The welfare state destroyed the Black family unit and raised illegitimate birth rate from 22% to 76%. Affirmative Action put people into positions or colleges for which they were not qualified, instilled the victim mentality, and discriminated against Whites. Ebonics focused on improper English. Low income housing in White neighborhoods raised crime rates, put people where they weren't welcome, and made both sides bitter. The newest attempt, defunding or abolishing police, has already turned Black communities into murder zones. As far as the honesty of the progressive Left, they are nothing but hypocrites. Forest Hills, NY, 1970: notoriously liberal town, protested like hell when the Lindsay administration proposed a low income development in the largely Jewish town, claiming it would "upset the balance" of the neighborhood. You can figure the rest out. It is no different today. The champions of race baits, Bill and Hillary Clinton, live in 98% White Chappaqua, NY. Nancy Pelosi, Elizabeth Warren, Jane Fonda, Cher, Rosie O'Donnell, et al, live in gated, all-White towns, own guns, far away from the poverty and sanctuary city slums. Maxine Waters, with her nasty, racist mouth, doesn't even live in her district, but a $4 million mansion outside of it. And that almighty queen of socialism and anti-White hatred Alexandria Overdose-Commie, who knows nothing about the Constitution, can't recite the alphabet, and blames White people for every full moon, was raised in a nearly all-White suburb in Westchester County. I'll believe the "Progressive" left when they practice what they preach. Until then, go back to your drawing board, turn off CNN, put the steroids in the defund the police envelope, get an illegal alien to move next to you, and write back when you've learned from experience and not indoctrination.

      @@spideraxis Hi Spideraxis. Unfortunately, what you yourself have written is itself a laundry list of undigested talking points just missing the target. Go back and read what I said about race reduction, neo-liberalism, and actual progressivism. You are collapsing categories, and mixing up history. Some of your statements are often unsubstantiated and frankly just wrong. You're fighting bogeymen in the corner given to you by Tucker, Sean, and Jordan, while I'm just standing here wondering who you are swinging at. If anything, I hope that as you read you will see where you go off into the very race essentialism you claim to decry.
      The fact that Republicans ended slavery does not mean what you think it does, because the party underwent ideological realignment started under Reconstruction. You can keep track of the moral arguments simply by looking at who advocates what policies, and it is precisely because the northern Democrats began championing more and more the white working class and the newly emancipated blacks (who were seen as having common interests together for a while) while the Republicans committed to industry and business (that's part of the reason they went to war against the South, remember), that categories got realigned. The federal income tax of 1913, the New Deal and its accompanying programs, were the proposals of the progressive wing of the Democratic party, even as Republicans and the Dixicrats (who soon became Republicans themselves) sought to water them down. By the time of the sixties, the progressive wing is increasingly championing movements unpopular in the south like the Civil Rights Movement, fighting off the erosion of unions, anti-war stances, and so forth. The same reasoning applies to LBJ, and the same for the neo-liberals in New York. They behave about 1/3 as bad as the Republicans but on crucial economic issues are just like them. So criticize them all you want. Same with Hillary and Bill. Whatever you fault them for is just a lighter version of what the Republicans gave themselves over to in the post sixties era, particularly with the Reaganite era.
      What is undeniable about everything is that Reaganite ideology has failed. The worship of the market, the decimation of public services, the massive tax cuts to the rich, lack of market oversight, the excesses of Wall Street, a shallow consumer culture and obsession with media spectacle, the demonization of the poor under the myth of the underclass - these were the seeds that now sprout in the economic and social chaos the nation faces. Narcissistic individualism. A governing elite in the hands of corporate elites and neo-liberal ideologues. A fascist Republican party that has no moral center left or any meaningful governing philosophy save to insist on authoritarianism (neo-liberal Democrats are only slightly better, by the way). So whatever charges you want to make about politicians, to the degree that they are even correct, are of little concern to me. They really are an indictment of Sowell's philosophy and the empty reactionary posture you have adopted. You have no positive vision. You are taking potshots at people (often erroneously) uncharitably and simply stewing in your own individual concerns. You lack moral vision, and that was something I made very clear in my original post against which you stand naked (go read the gospels or listen to Cornel West instead of Fox). It is in fact people like Bernie Sanders and AOC who represent the future of the progressive movement, the local activists of today and future leaders of tomorrow who excite the youth of this country which see the neo-liberal corruption and the failures of unfettered capitalism, the errors of American imperialism, and the solipsism of hypocritical libertarianism. Sowell is just the tail end of another closed chapter in history. It matters not where AOC herself comes from (I will not even bother to check your charge, as misleading as it likely is). It in no way impacts what she advocates for, and indeed many other politicians are failing precisely because they listen to their corporate backers, including McConnell, Graham, Tom Cotton, Pelosi, etc. You are scared and threatened by that woman and so you engage in the same deep lusts of domination you were early socialized into - beating down people underneath you or people you find threatening, engaging in a zero-sum contest of honor and shame with everyone you meet, dismissing the notion of giving to other people without expecting benefit in return or an attempt to quell your instinctual emotions of tribalism in the service of greater compassion for people far away from you. That idea, stemming from the radical vision of the historical Jesus of Nazareth, a community based on radical equality, inclusivity, and compassion, is far more a part of the progressive left these days than anywhere else. AOC has more integrity by far than Yoho and the incumbent Republicans quickly gave up their criticisms of a 2016 Trump to bow down in bitchhood to their new overlord, as evidenced by the impeachment ('He'll learn his lesson!') and the paralyzed response during COVID and the democratic protests. There is no good indication the new batch of conservatives will differ much from the last. But let me leave you with a response to your claims about LBJ and the effects of the Great Society. You cite no sources, and do not ground your argument in explicit moral positions:
      Johnson’s War on Poverty was a mixed bag. The degree to which the initiative failed is exactly a reflection of the ways in which the myths of poverty and invidious anti-communitarian attitudes lead to problems. Besides, the counter question for you is what would a Republican or libertarian have done? We know, in the form of Nixon and Reagan, and all those who followed him down to disastrous 2020.
      Johnson’s War on Poverty to some degree followed old tropes and was driven by a conservative growth agenda. It following the thinking of people like Pat Moynihan, focusing on macroeconomic growth agendas, job retraining, cultural tutelage, and punitive measures feeding into the carceral state (see Toure Reed’s 'Toward Freedom' pg. 32ff for more details). Johnson’s program also did not address the independently growing racial segregation or changing urban landscape. But on the other hand Medicare and Medicaid were boons to society and are regarded as indispensable staples. Head Start had a noticeable effect on young poor children while its adolescent equivalent Upward Bound did likewise. The Economic Opportunity Act did indeed lift millions out of poverty (which is actually a fluid notion that shifts through time) and established many programs we take for granted today. Through affirmative action and educational advancement opportunities, many African Americans ended up working in the quasi-public sector (private jobs but paid with public money), where their families remained somewhat protected when 2008 hit. But the drivers of the policies still remained bound to the standard assumptions about political economy and capitalism emergent since WWII. As Michael Katz notes in 'The Undeserving Poor’, the most crucially overlooked aspects of Johnson’s program as well as the far less effective neo-liberal and Reaganite methods of addressing the problem of poverty were political economy, resources, and power.
      It is clear that the decimation of workers unions (including now teachers, health care workers, lower ranking university staff, and many office workers) along with the massive shift in tax base from capital/corporations to labor has been the major correlates of an unhealthy and desperate society. That goes solidly with what Saez and Zucman argue in The Triumph of Injustice, with Katz in The Undeserving Poor, Adolph and Toure Reed, and it is solidly described in the Bible. You yourself have never made any substantive moral arguments of your own, apart from implicit half digested pop psychology and the disproven conclusions from 1960's conservatives. You are totally on the defensive. You poke here and there across the historical record, have never read Marx, and are making excuses for your own prejudices in demanding saints and perfection from a robust historical tradition as human as any other. You fall into the very trap of race essentialism Sowell warned about. You are, in other words, in need of some Socratic self-examination. You might check out the gospels, or what Cornel West and Adolph Reed have to say on UA-cam about the purpose of education and the current state of our society. Sowell might be right here and there about things (he’s a smart guy, after all), but he and you both need to question your own fundamental values and whether it isn’t your own ego subordinating reason than the other way around.

    • @mstrainjr
      @mstrainjr 5 років тому

      @spot light Well, I don't know. For one thing, the white racism against African Americans is a lot less than you might think. It's just that every issue between whites and blacks is blown up by the media. An example of this is the recent case of a woman who wouldn't let a man whom she didn't know into a secured apartment building at night because he was trying to push past her and he refused to prove that he lived there. There was a keypad thing by the door that the woman was trying to get him to use to prove that he lived there. He instead pulled out his phone and started recording her and tried to act like he was some kind of victim because he was black and she was white. When he finally pushed past her, she (as an employee of the company that owned the upper class apartment building) followed him to make sure he wasn't up to no good. The whole time, she kept trying to get him to show her his key or at least tell her which room he was in, but he refused to do it. When he finally got to his room and unlocked the door, he tried to make her out to be the fool in the situation. He ended up getting his video on NBC news, she was publically shamed as a racist, and she lost her job with the realty company. All she was doing was her job. I would expect her to act the same way with any stranger who was trying to force his way into a secured building without any evidence of having the right to be there. It's a case of manufactured racism.
      It seems to me that the largest threat to a big, power-hungry government is a strong, united people. So then it's not surprising to me that the most leftist politicians who want big government are also the ones who stir up the hate pot all the time, especially around election time. As long as we're divided and fighting each other over a stupid thing like race, they can keep using the conflict to get more power for themselves.

      Do not make the mistake that Peterson fans do, of thinking that just because an academic deals in half truths that his moral messasge is right. After all, Peterson has been taken down in exactly the right way by the left. Sowell is deep into a moral blindness showing his moral underdevelopment, in particular, it goes against the very radical vision of Jesus of Nazareth demonstrated in the gospels, one based on radical inclusiveness, equality, and compassion. Jesus and his early followers would disagree with Sowell's attitudes about society and the fact their movement succeeded (even as it became diluted by compromising with the worldly values of dominant society) proves Sowell wrong. Sowell just doesn't believe in those things, so he picks the facts and arguments to fit that view. Think again about race and poverty, how the myth of the underclass stems from your own subjective biases rather than the stream of social data and analyses by those who prove Sowell wrong (Adolph Reed being one of them). You can find an entire rebuttal to this way of thinking online as well as in an abundant literature in print (see Michael Katz's work on poverty). This is very eye opening! In college I read his book A Conflict of Visions. In this he contrasts two philosophies one a constrained vision and another an unconstrained vision. The latter vision sees the present as more important than the past and we make a new start forgetting the past and making a new future. The former vision says the past is our best guide to the future. Both visions were held by various philosophers of the 17th and 18th and 19th centuries. In the constrained vision we are constrained to view the past as important. In the unconstrained vision we are more free to act accordingly to the dictates of our own time. Both viewpoints are valid it’s just whichever vision one beholds that is how the person thinks and acts in their perception of reality.I concluded that I am a constrained visionary. I believe the past is important and is the way we can learn to do better. The past is the lantern to our feet and the light unto our path. And so is God’s word. I also believe in our great religious heritage. I agree in this discussion with Dr Sole that the modern welfare state nearly has recked this country. I believe in welfare reform. The Great Society was a failure. I am for full employment, tax reductions and deregulation of business. Constantly excelerating economic progress is not an end in itself but a means to liberate the capacities of every human being to pursue his talents and hopes! This is the way of economy in which the good fortune of others multiplies the good fortune of all. Well , just some thoughts.

      Sowell is deep into a moral blindness showing his moral underdevelopment, in particular, it goes against the very radical vision of Jesus of Nazareth demonstrated in the gospels, one based on radical inclusiveness, equality, and compassion.

      @@bjjsalzberry13 Oh, no my friend. You need to look at the historical facts. The New Deal lifted America out of the depression, constituted the middle class, enfranchised poor blacks and whites in a substantive way and strengthened the vitality and quality of life for blue-collar workers in an unprecedented form. Things like the Taft-Harley Amendment later weakened it, and the erosion of what was accomplished happened under the emergence of neo-liberal politics. I suggest you read Toure Reed's work on this, or the sweeping analysis of how neo-liberal tax policies went wrong in the work of Immanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman called The Triumph of Injustice. I can cite facts all day to you if you want, whereas what you are saying is unsupported. I might point to the 2008 financial crisis and the debacle that is the Republican legacy of governance now come to the front in how America has handled the epidemic compared to other countries.

      @@bjjsalzberry13 It was the decision to fix the gold standard that dragged down America during the Great Depression. FDR’s decision to take us off it (which is what Europe did as well) is part of what allowed America to start climbing out of the catastrophe (see www.history.com/news/how-did-the-gold-standard-contribute-to-the-great depression#:~:text=In%20a%20gold%20standard%20system,increasing%20their%20reserves%20of%20gold.) Conversely, when Nixon effectively took the US off the gold standard in 1976 the economy started to grow out of its stagflation. You will immediately resort to people like Milton Friedman, who contests these claims, but Milton’s own claims about what could have prevented the Great Depression were disproven when tried in 2008, but his overall neo-liberal economic theories have been proven wrong by the very disasters that lay at our doorstep, a result of laissez faire Reaganomics championed by Republicans and centrist Democrats. The reverse set of claims on the Depression, however, is still maintained by a number of economists. Rather, if anything Roosevelt was more conservative than he could have been (accounting for the 'dip' in recovery in 1937-1938) and the passage of the Taft-Hartley under a coalition of Republicans and Dixicrats reduced the power of the working class so ultimately only a third of the workforce remained unionized. Note in addition that my arguments are not solely based on absolute economic growth but crucially incorporate the factor of wealth differential (an important thing that is often missed in these discussions), since that is a very good indicator of the amount of social unrest and unhappiness in society (as we can see today). Finally, the above claims about the gold standard are not related to the New Deal in any crucial way and irrelevant to my argument.
      It was the growth of the trade unions under the National Labor Relations Ace that allowed many working people (blacks and whites) to have stable and well-paying employment. In combination with the Federal Housing Act, the Social Security Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act, then later the GI bill, a progressive tax schedule with top marginal tax rates, and the high economic output under government imposed production standards during WWII that the middle class was formed. If you doubt this, look at Zucman and Saez’s work in the Triumph of Injustice which shows that such a progressive income tax rate and corporate tax rate was perfectly consistent with the so-called Golden Age of capitalism.
      The programs of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security are seen as essential services by most Americans. Even hobbled as they were by private interests and rich businessmen, those were the results of an earlier generation that understood the devastating effects of the Great Depression and the importance of communal values. Your claim about the size of government is a judgement particular to your individualist perspective and ignores historical reality. America is a young nation, which for the first century and a half was essentially a frontier state that faced no major outside threats (having massacred all the native inhabitants), although the Civil War did encourage the Union to expand its branches and pass a temporary income tax to fund the war effort. The country did not even have a permanent federal income tax until 1913. All modern nations of any civilized and humane nature provide things like health care, free public schooling, the right to unionize, social support, and correct for wealth inequality via progressive income taxes. Those countries have happier and more productive citizens. They are better educated. There is less poverty. They provide more public services, and their capitalist sector is still more efficient than ours per capital because ours has degenerated to the point of funneling much of the wealth to the ultra wealthy, not welfare queens or government offices.
      It is rather you with a skewed basis of comparison who thinks that government is bloated and wasteful. You lack a communitarian ethos that counter-balances your concern for yourself. This leads into all the rationalizations that Reagan made about society and which are disproved by many things, especially the positive counterexample of most other nations. The wasteful part is the military industrial complex (which is a socialist institution and sucks up most of the budget yet wastes much of it in catering to special interests and useless pork barrel spending), the corrupt ties between corporations and politicians that both disrupt the free market and essentially make a welfare state of the business elites. If you want to complain about the expansion of the executive branch you should complain about Trump, who has corrupted his office more than anyone in an effort to cater to corporate interests, ruling elites, and undemocratic interests.
      Finally, you have never responded to my moral arguments. That trumps all other arguments. Even if much of the above were not true, the progressive vision is the clear moral imperative right now. The depth of misery and insanity that has happened since Trump was elected, but especially in the last year, lies very much at the feet of neo-liberal policies that stripped public services down to the bone, assumed a completely profit-driven system based on atomized interests could take over as compensation and handle realistic shocks, and contributed to an utter denial among Republicans about what was going on, to the point that they outright refused to provide aid to people as a way to keep them at home and stop the pandemic while also maintaining the economy. These Republicans (and some centrist Democrats, I might add) gave people the false choice of either returning to work (it was mostly poor workers who had to do this, not the business owners, by the way) and making the pandemic worse, or stay at home and starve. All other civilized nations did what I recommended and they are laughing at American shortsightedness and paralysis even as an entire sub-culture of Americans
      whining about having to put a mask on since it inhibits their ability to….spread death to others(?).
      Ultimately, BJ, you (like Sowell) have not subjected your own basic values to critical examination. You can say nothing against the historical tradition of Jesus and the other great religions that stand by my side. If you try you will by quickly out-gunned. Do not think that half-truths subordinated to a petty moral vision will suffice for a defense of your character. You must reexamine whether it is you personally who are really afraid of helping other people because you always expect something in return, or whether it is your own lack of empathy that leads you to idolize Mammon at the expense of people you think deserve to suffer.

They actually want to see black people as a whole succeed. They are intelligent and compassionate human beings. But as for you, one just has to listen to a couple of seconds worth of absolute hate filled racist drivel you spew forth to understand what a monster you are.

      Steven Hunter humans are 100% African, 99.9% identical and 100% African derived. Plus, there has never been a homogeneous ethnicity, no ethnicity can claim any biological traits and we inherited everything from our one African family tree [AAPA]. Humans are not grouped by biological traits.
      "You and I, in fact everyone all over the world, we’re literally African under the skin; brothers and sisters separated by a mere two thousand generations. Old-fashioned concepts of race are not only socially divisive, but scientifically wrong."
      "Explain that genetic evidence shows all humans are 99.9% identical and do not fall neatly into physical categories some people call races. The differences among us-like skin color and hair texture-evolved as humans adapted to different environments. They account for less than one tenth of one percent of our genetic makeup."

      You are wrong in your assumptions about the good of communal aid. America is precisely worse than other countries on a moral and economic level because of its outdated frontier society attitudes. All other countries now do capitalism more effectively than us, including China, even as their citizens are much happier and healthier. Unfortunately Sowell lacks moral imagination and is subscribing to the same half-truths that people like Jordan Peterson do. Sowell is deep into a moral blindness showing his moral underdevelopment, in particular, it goes against the very radical vision of Jesus of Nazareth demonstrated in the gospels, one based on radical inclusiveness, equality, and compassion. Impressive, facts are always brushed under the carpet when people don't want to hear them or they simply don't fit their agenda.
    We used to hear a lot of this in history class until it didn't work for particular political groups and their financial gains, something that motivates many individuals striving to get into politics rather than actually wanting to help the common man succeed.
    Politicians were originally not paid it was simply a chosen roll in an attempt to keep this country safe for all its citizens, fair and balanced for all to succeed in their chosen field of endeavor, they were volunteering their time and usually had other careers or lives.
    I would love to hear more from Mr. Sowell.

    It need not be said that Sowell is a great speaker and particularly sharp in these interviews, but I particularly love this interviewer. He presents the flawed yet instinctual/intuitive counter arguements/questions on all our minds. In this way it gives the listener the proper mental re-wiring they need that comes when Sowell provides the appropriate response or explains how the inquiry or arguement itself is a fallacy. Added bonus, it is all done in plain and simple english, the sign of a true intellectual who has a good grasp on and know what they are talking about... won't get that from verbal acrobats such as Noam Chomsky.

      Yes, exactly. That the way you get people to understand issues. Not by talking over those who criticise you, because you have a personal interest to promote a certain position. Why is the government still allowed to use the media as a vote-generator by deceiving the public?
