The only sad thing about this video is that it's 11 years old and only has 31 comments. Friedman gives us so much amazing commentary here and there's not enough discussion... just like the real world 😔

Dr. Friedman was absolutely correct. I found it very interesting that the interviewer made a comment stating "so this is what would happen if you were dictator for a day". This whole country thinks in terms of government power and controlling others...….that they simply don't understand libertarianism. We don't WANT to CONTROL or FORCE others! Yet, it is difficult for most to escape this type of thinking. Again, I found this comment VERY REVEALING.

"If I can't persuade, if we can't persuade the public, that it is desirable to do these things we have no right to impose them even if we had the power"
This is what I believe is the fundamental difference between "us and them". They come from both sides of the aisle.

3:48 the irony in this is simply astonishing, can you imagine Milton's face if he heard that Trump is the current president 16 years after this joke was made.

We need zombie Milton Friedman for Emperor. Though he would not want the power he would have no choice :P

The fact that he wouldn't want it is why he is the perfect candidate for the position.

It would seem the problem then is the system of voting itself

In the summing up, the host proclaims that he is putting on his helmet to keep his insurance premiums down. Now, if he claimed he was putting on his helmet to reduce the chances of his death, that would make sense. But we would have to do an actuarial analysis of cost outcomes with and without helmets to see whether wearing a helmet tends to lower insurance costs. Consider, for example, that he is far more likely to die instantly in a crash without a helmet. Now a requirement to wear eye protection COULD be justified, because you are much less likely to be blinded by wind or sand and cause an accident that might involve third parties. A helmet, on the other hand, is at best neutral in preventing accidents, and the question of the costs of motorcycle accidents with and without helmets is a question of real data collection with no obvious immediate answer. As a matter of practice I think anyone is being stupid to go without a helmet on a motorcycle or without a seatbelt in a car. As a matter of law, I think restrictions of these types should be limited to persons too young to make the decision themselves.
The parts where Laureate Friedman is speaking are pretty much flawless to my mind.
