The tonka in there is the same as the tonka in Bois Doré, and I can't get over how much I love it. That's why I'd mentioned the Commodity Milk - that's the same tonka, too. I love that we love the same tonka!!!
I can honestly say that I, too, hated it. I'm so, SO happy that I kept at it. I've heard people say that it shouldn't be work, and I agree to a large extent. Having said that, though, I also think that there is a time and a place for making a concerted effort to enjoy a scent that is repulsive at first? I don't know why. I've sniffed Chanel No 5 several times and I have to admit that I also "hate" it. But if I blind bought it, I'd FIND something to love about it. I'd be so lonely, though, because Ryan wouldn't want to be in the same room as me. He likes the Bois Doré now, too. Maybe that "mineral note" just needs time to settle? Tiziana Terenzi is a brand I've not tried yet but it's on the ever-growing list for sure. I have a VCanto and I love it, so I'm looking forward to trying TT as well. It's Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend, and we don't necessarily celebrate the same things that our friends in the South celebrate in terms of history. Yayy! New video! It’s always so interesting of a phenomenon when perfumes that we previously stuck up use noses at, can sometimes turn out to be perfumes we fall head over heels for! I’ve only had this complete 180 occurrence happen to me on a couple occasions though. It happened with Serge Lutens Chergui and more recently with Alkemia Misdeeds After Midnight. Van Cleef & Arpels makes me actually wish I was 5 years older because I would’ve gotten into fragrance and would have been able to buy a certain fragrance from them when it was still being produced. That fragrance is Feerie! And Ugh it’s GORGEOUS. I don’t usually like violet in my fragrances (no thanks to Guerlain Insolence) but there’s just something indescribable about the violet blended with the other notes in VC&A Feerie that makes it so damn good! My bf’s mom has a bottle of it, she let me spray it one time and I sniffed it and it was LAFS!!!! 😁😌 I have Orchidee Vanille and do love it, but haven’t tried anything else from the VC&A Extraordinaire range. I May have to sample Bois Dore! It sounds sublime! Have you tried California Reverie from this range? I haven’t smelled it, but from looking at the note listing and knowing the perfumes you tend to like, it might be right up your alley! ☺️

For now, the only scent that's exempt from my NOBUY is Bois Doré, and it's been sold out for a while now. :( I went into Sephora (was in an actual city yesterday!) and sniffed Nomad because you love it so much. Yeah always good to keep sniffing. I quite often learn to love things with further acquaintance. I love tiramisu, bit disappointing that you didn't get that... I make it from a recipe from the first PhD student I worked with. He was from Milan, every time I make it, I think of him. My oh hell no recently was sheikh Al shuyukh. The initial sprays was incredibly plasticky. But it's amazing now. Think it was the scent trapped in sprayer from manufacturer. It's a super cheap scent so I guess I should expect that kind of shenanigans. 🥰
Mmmm. Tiramisu is SO GOOD. It's so wonderful that you think of your PhD student when you make it. I truly believe that our thoughts become things, and that when you think of someone and send them "good energy" as the saying goes, that that "good energy" DOES have an effect. :) You're so much more brave than I am when it comes to scent. I've not yet dabbled with any of the middle eastern scents other than oud for glory from Lattafa. But if Oud for Glory is any indication of the quality one can expect for the price, then I'm TOTALLY going to be spending my money on a few of these! Thank you for the recommendation and the tip about the scent being trapped in the sprayer. Always so much to learn! Who knew that could be a thing? Veronica! Thank you so much! I do love filming in my car in the mornings on the way to work. It's my favourite for some reason. It's natural, because, full disclosure, even if the camera isn't on, I'm 'filming' videos during the drive to work to keep from being bored. Just me, in my car, talking out loud AS IF i were filming. But no camera. I'm a weirdo. AND I bet I'm not the only person who does it. :p Shalimar is a scent that I'm not there with yet. I say yet because I haven't got a bottle on my shelf taunting me and telling me that I have to love it because i paid for it. Otherwise, you can bet I'd be finding something nice to say about it. I completely agree about certain temperatures completely changing a fragrance. I can love a fragrance in one season and strongly dislike it in another one!
😂 you’re fun to watch! For me, Patchouli Reminesence was that scent. That thing is a bomb. But somehow I warmed up to it on a different, bitterly cold winter day, and it’s what I wear when I want to feel warm while I watch film noir. Lesson learned to always give scents a try in different season/over time.

Hi Lola. It's so interesting how we grow and learn and evolve and change. So many fragrances that I literally HATE upon first spray become loves. I think our noses are just confused sometimes, and we need time. Fragrances are like people I guess: we need to be patient with the ones we don't like at first because they're often the ones we end up loving the most. :) Thanks for taking the time to comment today. Oooh! I’ve been wanting to try this one! Two Montale that I absolutely love ( Intense Cafe and Arabians Tonka) had to grow on me. I didn’t hate them but was more “unsure”. Now I hold onto scents that I initially don’t like and only de clutter after I feel sure they won’t work for me. I think it’s so strange how a scent that at first is off putting and odd can become a complete love. There must be a metaphor for life in there somewhere! 😂♥️

I didn't hate Intense Café, but I did borderline hate Arabians Tonka. I think there IS a metaphor for life there for sure! Perhaps it's a simple as the fact that we have to learn to appreciate what we have? Hello my dear friend.😘 I never realised it, before you asked this question but many.😅 Dans Tes Bras, Iris Poudre, Eau d'Hiver was strong dislike at first sniff. For the first, I could'nt pass over the skin scent, the second was too grown up, the third I just could'nt understand. Now I need, NEED to repurchase Dans Tes Bras, Iris Poudre is one of my favourite scent and Eau d'Hiver is on my whist list. I blame the change of tastes, and the lack of expectation, when revisitin a fragrance. I think this situation also rejoin the reason why you blind buy. In some ways you look for something to love, because you own it, or for me since Fredéric Malle is my favourite house. 😍

Sunny Scents 🥰 recomanded it and I went trying it. Love the smell 😍👌 but there is something in it, what saved me buying a full bottle immediately 🙈😂 perhaps the mineral notes. I'm sure, I will try it again 👍

I wonder, though, if that's the scent or the fact that I wore it at home (it's an "out" scent for me for sure!) or the fact that it might have needed to settle? I'm not sure. Me too, keep trying it but not getting along with it... It's the carnation that smells like cloves. I think it's an interesting perfume for sure, cold and warm, spicy and soapy, just not for me!
I used to wear it, like everyone else. It was never a favourite of mine. I haven't smelled it in years, but I'm sure if I did it wouldn't be one I'd be tempted by.

I completely agree about certain temperatures completely changing a fragrance. I can love a fragrance in one season and strongly dislike it in another one!

😂 you’re fun to watch! For me, Patchouli Reminesence was that scent. That thing is a bomb. But somehow I warmed up to it on a different, bitterly cold winter day, and it’s what I wear when I want to feel warm while I watch film noir. Lesson learned to always give scents a try in different season/over time.

Hi Lola. It's so interesting how we grow and learn and evolve and change. So many fragrances that I literally HATE upon first spray become loves. I think our noses are just confused sometimes, and we need time. Fragrances are like people I guess: we need to be patient with the ones we don't like at first because they're often the ones we end up loving the most. :) Thanks for taking the time to comment today. Two Montale that I absolutely love ( Intense Cafe and Arabians Tonka) had to grow on me. I didn’t hate them but was more “unsure”. Now I hold onto scents that I initially don’t like and only de clutter after I feel sure they won’t work for me.
I think it’s so strange how a scent that at first is off putting and odd can become a complete love. There must be a metaphor for life in there somewhere! 😂♥️
Hi Lovely Lynda Lyons!!! ME TOO with the Intense Café (which I'm wearing as I type and which Ryan has already complimented me on this evening because he LOVES it) and the Arabians Tonka! I didn't hate Intense Café, but I did borderline hate Arabians Tonka.
I think there IS a metaphor for life there for sure! Perhaps it's a simple as the fact that we have to learn to appreciate what we have? That's probably not even close to being analogous, but it helps me segue into the following sentence: Know what I have that I appreciate? YOU! Hello my dear friend.😘 I never realised it, before you asked this question but many.😅 Dans Tes Bras, Iris Poudre, Eau d'Hiver was strong dislike at first sniff. For the first, I could'nt pass over the skin scent, the second was too grown up, the third I just could'nt understand. Now I need, NEED to repurchase Dans Tes Bras, Iris Poudre is one of my favourite scent and Eau d'Hiver is on my whist list. I blame the change of tastes, and the lack of expectation, when revisitin a fragrance. I think this situation also rejoin the reason why you blind buy. In some ways you look for something to love, because you own it, or for me since Fredéric Malle is my favourite house. 😍

It's amazing how our tastes can change and how we can almost "force" ourselves to like something because we love the house. Know what else is amazing? Sunny Scents 🥰 recomanded it and I went trying it. Love the smell 😍👌 but there is something in it, what saved me buying a full bottle immediately 🙈😂 perhaps the mineral notes. I'm sure, I will try it again 👍
Hi Heidi. It totally escaped me to mention Sunny's review, and I wish I had remembered. She likes this one on cold days, and I'm loving it in the fall, but I hated it in winter. I wonder, though, if that's the scent or the fact that I wore it at home (it's an "out" scent for me for sure!) or the fact that it might have needed to settle? I'm not sure. I bet you FOR SURE it was the mineral note needing to settle. I'd love to know if your opinion changes and you end up wanting a full bottle. Thanks so much for being here! First: you and Ryan are a hoot and a half😂 Second: Van Cleef & Arpels is one house that I would want them all. Although they don't project ☹️, the scents are delightful☺️ Sure do wish Oil parfumery had them all so I could layer them to help performance. Have a beautiful scentfully smelly day mi lady🌞🍂

I bet if you give it three more chances we can chat about how the HELL we're going to get it and who will get it first - for something that I hated so much, it's super hard to get hold of on the grey market. It's been sold out for ages, and two minutes after they restocked it on Perfumeonline, it was sold out again. :(

I LOVE that!!! Although the argument that we shouldn't HAVE to TRY to love something just because we own it has merit, I do feel it's important for me to try, which means I have to take my time. Me too, keep trying it but not getting along with it... It's the carnation that smells like cloves. I think it's an interesting perfume for sure, cold and warm, spicy and soapy, just not for me!
I used to wear it, like everyone else. It was never a favourite of mine. I haven't smelled it in years, but I'm sure if I did it wouldn't be one I'd be tempted by.
