  • After taking on our toughest adventure yet, battling midges, loose rock, elevation, and wrong turns on a 30-mile journey through the Torridon Hills of Northern Scotland aboard two Bosch equipped Cube electric mountain bikes. Steve has thought it's best to revisit the 140mm Vs 160mm debate!

      160 , i love even longer travel too e.g. kanevo, but i pref the lower bb the 160 has. All travels have their own locations they shine. One of everything ?!

    Yes it's all a bit touchy-feely for you and the terrain ."Everyone thinks they have the best dog ( bike ) and none of them are wrong". I've got 3 Emtbs all set up completely different. I do really like my modified Merida E160 with 27.5 x3.0 front and fat 26 x 4.0 rear tyre. Ep 129
    (13.40) Really comfortable and works extremely well everywhere including beach .But 2018 (softer) and 2020 (firmer) levo's are easily adapted to. E=Mtb²

    Ive used a 200mm f/b DH bike as a diy build.
    It rewards high speed riding over the rough stuff, but severely punishes low speed technical.
    Constantly finding myself dangling and forward momentum lost into the suspension.
    What we need is auto travel linked into power modes..
    Is that what that new fancy esusp does?

    I find it funny that in this comparison our host Steve tells us that they found the 140 more plush, maybe better on this tour they took. But all we see is him on the 160 mm???

    My KTM Macina Lycan 271 (EMBN Show 67 Bike Vault 20:43 !!!) still going strong with 130 (68 deg) Pikes and "just" 125mm rear travel....I've done that Torridon loop but not the same out leg, out via loch Clair/Coulin, but the same return from Achnashellach, except not turning west, we went over Bealach na Lice....off next week, weather looking good, maybe time for a return visit, North West coast is always better after a dry spell, but yeah I'm not too concerned over suspension travel just added some bottomless tokens, and I've got 486mm mega chain stays so it climbs like a beast!!!!

    Did the 140/36 have the Grip 2 dampner in the front ? The Fit 4 on the 160 /38 is not anywhere close to the Grip 2. I have had both on my Prowler and the Grip 2 is a game changer. I have a Fox Factory 36 Grip 2 , and it is insane how tunable and plush that Dampner is.

  • @marcusoutdoors4999
    @marcusoutdoors4999 2 роки тому

    I move to SQLabs carbon bars which mellowed the ride on my Levo… details matter. Then I upgraded the damper to ultimate spec on the Lyric forks, also extending the air shock from 150 to 160…perfection, for me, where I ride. So I wonder if 38 forks are only really right for re-entry landings from space, but may be a bit stiff for most UK terrain. Or to put it another way, this obsession with fork tube diameter maybe is not all to do with function and may be signalling other rider inadequacies.😜

  • @sionjones1675
    @sionjones1675 2 роки тому

    I've got the Stereo hybrid 160 actionteam , and I don't really rate those forks, sadly. My old 26" mountain bike has much older Fox 36 RC2 forks, and they are absolutely plusher than the newer 38s on the Cube. I've been riding both, and the difference is night and day

  • @Acceleronics

    I get annoyed when forum posters say that they want to "upgrade" their fork to a longer travel model, as if longer was always better (just talking bike forks and rear suspension travel here! 😅). It's going to be a change, but not necessarily an upgrade. I've not tried this, but I bet a long travel motocross bike would not be fun on a road race track. Horses for courses and all that.

    • @jwhoward182
      @jwhoward182 2 роки тому +1

      Motocross bikes are fun on a road race track with the appropriate tires, however changing tires won’t come close to helping a road race motorcycle off road.
      I have raced motocross and switched to mountain biking. I found that changing spring tension to maximize the use of available travel caused bobbing on hard climbing. Once the spring weights were fixed, one rarely uses all travel on 140mm+ systems unless huge jumps are involved.

    My Stereo 140 HPC 29-er is perfect for me. I think it’s the wheels. It’s like a monster truck and just crushes over Scottish trails with no problem. Makes lobbing it in the back of the car a bit more challenging, but I’m so pleased with it, I’m just buying a bigger car. Recommended.

      I'm new to the ebikes but looking at the cube now I do like the action team specs just not 100% sold on that colour way! Bit in your face for scotland being attracted to thives rubber necking haha! But not just that im 37 now I like the white or the Olive and grey on the 140s but I know I'm going to upgrade all the shocks later so may aswell go for something like the action team I dunno! I'm 5.10 do you think the large would be big enough for someone my hight? I'm not sure if we're shrinking as was the taller ones out the crew back in the day for the DH but think bikes have just increased on size! It's been a good 15 plus years since raced or that in scotland on the ATX Two lol loved that bike! So things are definitely going to be a massive change around it'll be like starting over again!

    Why do you always test things with so many different variables. Test two bikes with same wheels sizes etc but both with different suspension travel. Otherwise what's the point.

    • @danielsal5442
      @danielsal5442 2 роки тому +1

      Of course they are aware of this. But when Cube in this case wants a push for their 140 mm bike with lots of 💸💸 EMBN gladly produce what the manufacturer wants 😁

    • @Maxibranque
      @Maxibranque 2 роки тому +1

      It's because Cube choses to put 29" wheels on the 140mm, and 27.5" on the 160mm. Strange choice as very good bikes such as Orbea have 29" with 160mm travel.

    I know you need the fancy title to get the clicks, but I get annoyed when you pose a question and by the end of the video it's yes/no, it depends, not really an answer answer.
    If you don't have a firm answer or an opinion one way or another, then don't present it as a question initially.

    • @SteYoung
      @SteYoung 2 роки тому +2

      Absolutely agree. I learned zero from this video. It offered nothing.

    • @Maxibranque
      @Maxibranque 2 роки тому

      I don´t agree, they clearly say they prefer the 140mm for long mountain rides. The 160mm is a great bike for big jumps and DH or bike parks, more agressive riding, thus less confortable.
