Made the mistake of having my first ever go on an ebike today, gotta go find 5 grand now ffs.
Edit: it's happened, giant reign 2022 ordered, can't wait.
Good mistake! 👍
Haha 😄 🤣 this was me
Yah, you can never go back. I just got a Powerfly 4.
Me too I was skeptical at first. But afterwards I made and am now waiting on a YT Decoy Mx 2
Yup, I feel ya. I havent even ridden one yet but can tell how much fun they are just from watching these videos. Bow I need to come up with 9g’s!!
Not watched this channel for a while as was getting bored seeing the same brands of bike,so nice to see a Giant on the channel.
Would love to see some of the cheaper Giant bikes on here in the future,as they offer great value for money.
Thanks for kind words, i believe this Giant is such a bike when you look at pricing right? Maybe take a look at the E+3 or 2
@@stevejones7956 We would love for you to come out and take on the SoCal mountains! You can go for days from a beach to a desert and everything in between!
Great to see EMBN get with the program and finally acknowledge the Reign E, like some others I was getting bored of seeing one after another Specialized review. Well done Steve having a crack at the EWS-E we can only imagine the pain of it. Hoping to see the unit numbers of the new model increase as at the moment they are as rare as rocking horse sh*t. Cant wait til they land in Oz. Keep up the good work.
Hey thankyou. Yes the pain was significant haha. I'm also very happy to have ridden the Giant
The Giant shop by me closed for good 6 months ago because they can't get any bikes ! It would be nice to see a video talking to some bike CEOs on when and if bikes will be back at shops for test rides and available for purchase
If some bikes are designed only on computer none of those need every actually be built and dispatched to customers in 2022! True vapourware…
Great review and exceptional production values, the legend that is Steve Jones! Top work.
Finally covering Giants, the most popular brand but ignored for trendy $15 grand brands for too long! No more! Trance will continue the conquest.
Hi there, not so much ignored just getting the chance to ride
I liked it when they dropped the displays for 2019. This new, smaller controller seems a step up in improvement!
A superb video, excellent reportage and I'm bloody glad I just found and reserved one!
Can’t wait for mine to turn up, currently own the trace e and it has been bulletproof.
Nice review guys. Loved the race review mentality.
Hey thanks, like i said, you learn things in racing which you might not recreationally
I own a 2020 E Pro 2 and waiting for the new mullet version. Giant bikes are a great value and are built well. I’ve had no! Issues in 2 seasons of running it hard in the mountains of Lake Tahoe except issues I caused. I have no problems keeping up with my buddies on way more expensive bikes and even they commented how confident they felt on tough downhill tracks at Northstar bike park. Don’t be fooled by the hype most of us wouldn’t see a big difference in their riding from one bike to the next and it’s not worth the increased cost IMO.
Hi Robert, yes it's a great bike for sure
new ones will be expensive.... so there goes the value theory
@@chickenclips True but inflation is going to effect all bikes electric or not. It’s still a great value if you can afford getting into the E bike category.
Ordered the Reign E+2 (SRAM kit) a couple of weeks ago. Can't wait... :-)
I'm in the US and they don't show it available to order yet
I still like having the full display on my Bosch equipped Cannondale Habit 4, it's nice to know distance and battery percentage at a glance. Plus I can change power output without taking my left hand off of the bar. That Giant is a beautiful machine though, love it.
Great review of a bike that sounds perfect for me.
Maestro + Coil = Heaven
Just ordered the 2023 Reign E+3 with a saving of $1,400. Regular price was $6,699 CND and got it for $5,300 CND. I hope all the great reviews are correct. The 2023 has a 800 kw/h battery which should have plenty of range. Can't wait
I lived long enough to witness the life changing event - Giant eMTB on EMBN network! I'm ready for anything thrown at me from now on! :-)))))
Hi Igor, sorry you missed the previous ones haha!
I have the older reign I love it
Fantastic and enjoyable video mate! BTW, great riding as well. Good on ya! How do you rate the Giant versus the Specialized equivalent?
Excellent Bike and Customer support!
I think when e-bikes become slightly lighter, less bulky and with a gearbox and better integrated screens and controls ... then we will have much better and more capable bikes.
I don't think it's too far away but not everything can afford a bike near 10k so it's a matter of waiting for the improvements to drip down onto the 5/6k bikes. Maybe in a few years.
Tempted to upgrade from my 2021 trance E pro, but not sure its worth the extra £3.5k to do it. That would buy me some nice kit for the bike I already have. Great to see a feature on Giant, nice one lads
I too have a 2021 trance e+1pro s with the 625wh battery I have upgraded some parts of it so wont be upgrading to this as apart from the huge cost and inevitable wait for it the trance is pretty capable once you get it dialled in.🙂👍🏴
@@jamespaterson6550 yup, trance is a superb bike. Even if I bought the reign I’d still want wireless shifting and dropper so may as well fit these to mine. The only bummer is that the 2022 motor control built into the grip is not compatible with our models (according to giant uk) which is a really nice improvement I think
The bike looks great in phantom green!
I’ve had 5 emtbs and this is far by the best
hello steve, can you compare it with the new Levo 2022? do they drive similarly? which engine do you like more? Thanks Yves
The ultimate e-bike will definitely be belt driven with no derailleur.
How much does it weigh?
@@the.notorius.conormacgrego6000 If it's e power weight is not as much of an issue. It does weigh more but just marginally.
Incorrect
@@HarryKuloh So all the manufacturers are going down the wrong path?
This bike is sick.
After watching this I changed my mind from 2022 specialzed levo turb comp alloy priced 6750 the giant is 7500. i was lucky i found one and got a great deal off the bikeshop at moreton.
Waiting for the 2022 Haibike NDURO and AllMtn test reviews...
Steve, how is the range on the new PWX3? Would love to know how this motor is performing in the real world.
Hi steve , i have just received my reign e0 after belonging a trance e0 2020. Did you use the automatic mode?
If not , do you temember what settings you used [ all full?)
I am thinking about Reign E+3 22'. It will be big pain in the butt to pedal it up to work 6 miles each way? Of course its gonna be secondary usage 🙃
Ordered the Gaint Reign E+2 2022 based on this video review Size small Long wait on these from Gaint Can't wait until it arrives
Thats great, Mark! We hope you enjoy it because we certainly do! 👍
@@embn Just 4 more weeks until arrival Hopefully 🙏
so can you change your grips or are you stuck using the stock due to the integration??
Great y have one giant stance + and one kenevo sl and one dh orange 222
Great video how much batt did you have left?!
Any info about the motor noise?
Yeah hoping that these new Giant ebikes 2022 are affordable. I'm a really a Trek guy but Trek really nickel dimes their bikes to death unless you drop the big money. Most likely going to get the the Giant e plus.
Thinking about the Giant but the new Haibike Nduro 2022 is also with pw x3 an 750 but with 180/180mm Travel 🧐
I want this bike.
Bosch dominates E racing nes pas? Can the PW be programmed for over run like the Bosch as to minimize pedal strikes?
10:03 Steve, this cable coming out of the GoPro is the external power supply of the camera? If so, say something more about it, because I am in the process of looking for a good solution that will allow me to record whole several-hour trips.
You need to remove the battery from your Gopro and connect a powerbank with a usb cable......Put a 256 gb card and record for hours......
My charger stop to 60% while I dont put the60% charging mode on my reign e+2022, thats a big problem when you want to go and the battery is only 60%... Have you heard about this problem ? Thanks Ps : its works fine when I charge the battery off the bike..
If the control is integrated into the grips, are we stuck with one type of grip and what about when it wears out...$$$ for new grip with controller?
no, it just looks like it, but it's not. any grips will work. i had the same concern, but i now own one.
@@thecount1001 thks mate, i recently seen that with the new Trance X review. Bit misleading to call it integrated imo.
@@theomitchell2615 totally. both misleading and dumb as every rider wants to use diff grips. marketers are dumb.
Can we have more big days out fellas
No, it takes too long to recover hahaha
Looks great how much does it weigh?
23kg i recall Les
But you didn’t answer, “is this the ultimate enduro e-mtb”
How does it compare to the megawatt ?
is the chainstay too long for effective manuals, J-hops trials and other jibs?
Yes
EMBN pls test all new ebike not only expensive and some cheaper like cube 2022 model and other ebike
When will the be available in 🇺🇸???
Anyone know the weight of it ?
How does the new Yam motor in that bike compare with something in similar spec with Shimano EP8 ?
no rattle for one thing.
@@thecount1001 pw-x3 will rattle a little or the gears are too tight inside.
So how does it rip compared to levo Gen 3 😁??????????
Great review! How tall are You and what size did You picked? Regards!
Hey Robert, i'm 6' and was on L
@@stevejones7956 thanks for replay, I'am 5'9" , M should be fine for me.
Whats the weight of these bikes ? Giant doesnt list them , pretty sure Jones didn't mention it in this video either.
How to buy?
So no one still really knows what the new Yamaha Pwx3 is like good video but totally missed a lot valuable info we all waiting on
Hey Neil, i can help, what you need?
@@stevejones7956 hi Steve how can I contact you cheers
Do you know when it’s available in the U.K.? Still not showing in the Giant U.K. website.
I just ordered one from the giant store in Sheffield, they said it would be here November time.
@@decentwig5648 that’s ace. My two local giant stores either can’t say when they are coming or one says March 22
The size of that downtube!
Great review! I’m enjoying the giant bikes but always hated the ball sack of the motor hanging low. This Reign looks great. And sounds like it performs awesome as well. Too bad I just bought my Trance X.
Same here, but there is also the price difference to consider.
@@smc2811 true. However in Canada the Trance x 2 vs the reign 2 is only a few hundred dollars different. The cheapest Trance (the 3) is 1100 different from the cheapest Reign (the 2). So quite comparable.
Does anyone else have problems with motor overheating. I heared this is common issue with new syncdrive pro motor and you can find a lot off sad owners on the internet. I have giant reign e+2 2022 and I weight 77 kg and have problems with overheating and motor automaticly shift down modes from 5 to 4 or 3. Outside temp was only 20 deg celcius. Thanks for honest comments. I hope anyone has a solution for this issue.
Just the other day my local bike shop owner mentioned the new reign motors are having these types of issues. Design flaw. I have a 2020 Giant reign with the old Yamaha motor and I've never had an overheating issue.
Weight od the bike?
29er in the rear ?
Hi, great review. Helped me lot in my decision to settle for this ebike. Do you think it is possible to put a 29er in the rear ? Having the intention to try it out in the next weeks.
Not possible. Chain stay too short.
@@tallpaul9848
Hi Paul, thanks for the answer. I ordered a Schwalbe Big Betty in 2.8 for the rear to slightly raise the BB.
Seen it on a you tube video from RG E MTB.
@@deneiga Interesting. I went and looked at that video and unfortunately I only speak English. I saw on his Reign e he has an Eddy Current in the back. Did he say that Big Betty is better and provides more clearance?
@@tallpaul9848
He said nothing about the Big Betty. He went straight for the Eddy Current that seems a bit overkill for my trails. Expecting a better rolling capacity from the Big Betty. That's why my choice.
@@deneiga Got it. Think I'll do the same as you. Thanks!
Bike looks pretty good.. Downtube is a bit fat though compared to my kenevo.
I'd pick this bike over a kenevo every day of the week
“Some people might be wandering about the lack of display on this bike”…. Who are those people!
Controller integrated into the grip i.e. designed by someone who doesn't understand mountain bikers. Most people who are serious about mountain biking will put their preferred grips on the bike. I hope it can be detached from the grip easily....
You can use any grips. Controller separate and can go on left or right.
better than rail 9 ?
best e-bike for the $$$
I hope you were able to raise and get at least one pint 🍺 in you GREAT REVIEW thank you seriously thinking of buying this eBike!
Funny there's nobody commenting on the cracks at the bottom of the downtube which are either(and/or) "frame/filler/paint" and are really common....probably why they are now massively discounted from £6k to £3.5k....
Here's my question, I currently have a deposit on a reign E+2 (late December delivery) and a 2022 trek rail 9 (mid November delivery). I cannot get a higher spec reign before at least march, ie after the Australian summer which I have 2 months of holiday over.
What should I do? Giant or trek?
I'm also waiting for a Trek Rail 9, keen to hear people's thoughts..
I've got the E-1 on order. Arrives end of Nov in WA
Same as me.. wanted to see a proper in depth review as I've got an E+1 coming mid Dec in Vic.
It's more an ad than a review 🤷♂️
Deposit on a Reign e + 0, March 2022 ETA hopefully in Queensland…
Why don't you review the Watt Wagon Hydra or Optibike R17C?
R17C is a twist throttle M/C. Massive motor 1700 watts. Can't fairly compare with class 1 ebikes.
ESPECIALLY on STRAVA.
@@curtrichardson8002 wasn't looking for a comparison to a class 1 bike. Looking for a review of a top tier bike.
@@masontmike my mistake, the r17c is a awesome bike. There is one on my local trails, really fast.
@@curtrichardson8002 Would love to see if you could review that R17C. We are starved for new content and different types of bikes. L am not the only one tired of seeing the big brands only get the spotlight.
Hope they sort the electricity out from 💧
a giant on gmbn/embn?!
What's the news? They reviewed other models don't think they make preferences..
Lol right.
@@TGM_Offroad of course they don't do it for cookies... you could?
Yah 😆
Yup and not for the first time
Looks like they learned some tricks from that other brand?
Unfortunately the 2022 Giant ebikes, Reign and Trance X will be vaporware in the US.
AD
When usa
After watching this video. Looks like Josh Carlson's time is safe. I am glad to see a minimalist cockpit. I'm not a big fan of large displays.
The cockpit in the frame looks like a copy of specialized which did it on the Levo about 3 years ago.
Josh Carlson's time and speed is also pretty crazy Lisa
Giant e-bike without "balls design"? 🤔
This is just a pretty advert. You are testing a new motor! Very poor info. I await a critical test of the PW-X3 motor.....
What you need Moto?
@@stevejones7956 Just seen your ...Research And Development Behind The 2022 Giant Reign E+ , much more informative. Kudos for riding the EWE =- E race.
Great for 3 months. Until the fault codes start appearing.
Shame about the motor, I love Giant bikes but for me I will only buy a E bike with a Bosch motor.
As an ex cop you did the 999 number proud Steve
Well spotted...
As soon as someone says the magic 100nm word I’ll be for sure dropping every penny I got
I like embn but this was a snoozer minus the views.
It’s sad how all channels these days just regurgitate and spew the bullshit marketing that companies put out. Sad state of affairs. Nobody can think for themselves anymore.
Really? Well Peter, I think for myself.
I think for myself too thanks, what sort of a clown makes a generalising statement like peters on you tube comments sections 😂😂
Happy to answer any questions you have Pete
Go away, thanks Pete.
So this is basically a Trek Rail with a bigger battery and a worse motor? Geometry looks identical lol
Nah nothing like it. Better motor, different use case etc. Much better value.
@@kingerz And quieter!
I think Giant and Whyte are definitely the ugliest E-bikes out there.
Lol. You don't have look at the display. Why is this a problem? You are disingenuous, making Giant favors.
Dont buy this bike. Electric probles rear hub exploded droper is crap. More time in the shop then on the trail 230km. Worst buy ever. I hate it so much!!🤬
No giant make crap e bikes I’m afraid
Hmmm, I’ve have a 2020 E Reign 2 and run it hard in the mountains of Lake Tahoe with no problems. I love the bike no mechanical issues except the ones I caused. I felt confident the moment I started riding it. I’m waiting for the new mullet Pro 2 in a smaller size to come in. The upgrades, new shorter chain stays bigger battery and new warranty are more than worth the $1000 and I can get what I paid for my old bike. My snobby friends paid way more for the cool bikes but got no noticeable boost in performance I have 2 friends that got Giant E Trance bikes and spent the extra money on coaching. Guess who’s performing better on their new bikes. Value and performance are what Giant offers being “cool” is overrated on the trails.
@@powertapping sorry but all people I know who have had them have had so many problems dangerous too as also the bike look fat and ugly down tubes they must be the the least sold in the uk and customer support absolutely appalling with months of turnaround.
I had a giant trance advanced pro mtb and that was amazing shame thry can’t do the same with there ebikes
My 2019 Trance SX E1 Pro hasn't skipped a beat after 3000kms of technical single track. Still on oem components...no motor or battery issues...but could use a new rear tire soon. Maybe mine was assembled on a Wednesday 🤷♂️...
Not based on my Specialised Kenevo and Giant Trance, both are equally good.
@@robg3836 I've had one occasion of water ingress in a Scottish downpour - but 10 mins later the sun came out and dried it out, and bit of Sugro means it'll never happen again. Every brand has their weakness. As for service - couldn't ask for better - recently, the charger locked out the battery - both it and and the charger were replaced free of charge without any hassle the following day from my local Giant store where I'd bought the bike. Apparently its a known, very rare problem with the charger. Yes, the looks are subjective, but I like it.
