For those of you who are unfamiliar, this is how all TOOL songs start. Jesus, Octopus and Santa in the room jamming out and then Maynard writes over the top.
Without Question bro. I was blasting it on a long desolate drive last night and literally said outloud, This is my favorite album of all time. It doesn't /Can't better than this. Pure genius every second that was recorded.
I love go to sleep listening to Lateralus almost every night. Without the last filler. Its a state of peace, Parabol/a is a beautiful song, its purple. and the band completely groovys the fuck out. straight music ecstasy. But 10,000 days i wish i could live inside of.... Even the fillers dont bother me... the one where the stranger is in an E.R. is crazy good... From beginning to end, 10k days, is perfection to me. (The double layered vocals on every song, makes you feel like youre praying with Jesus, im not even a religious person) Ive had the same desktop background of 10k for over 10 years on every new PC i get. I even got a new phone and put it on my phone display. Eternal Happiness because all this pain is an illusion...
hell ya man, his bass NEVER disappoints! I just got Amazon music (that now has HD and ultra hd music included) and I know EXACTLY which song I'm cranking when I get home!
@@michellethomakos4412 I think you misunderstood the conversation. We are happy because we didn't know about this video, and it's hard to watch because it is so good. Good on you for defending Tool! I've listened to Tool for almost 30 years, and I appreciate the work that the band has put into their music. Remember their contract problems meant no new Tool? Dark days.
Incredibly this reminds me of band practices 25 years ago, just jamming repeated riffs and seeing what feels good. I wish, with hindsight, that we’d appreciated ‘the moment’ more back then, rather than striving for the gigs and set out songs like we were ever going to be ‘rich and famous’ for doing what we loved. I’d give anything to be back in that room with the lads jamming out for hours and loving every second of it without the hopes of the future burdening our creativity but rather living the moment and absorbing the essence of the art!
It’s so bonks to think about how the sounds of Tool are created by 3 dudes. Seeing them in a small, raw space really puts that into perspective for me.
Exactly what I thought when I first heard this. I then checked the record song and it's slightly different. The way he plays it here is different. Fucking beautiful.
I could not have just watched a better thing in the universe. Over time, "The Patient" has become one of my very favorite and most cherished Tool songs, and I feel incredibly lucky to have witnessed the band practicing it! (Perhaps someday I may get to see it live. And I..... Still may..... Gonna wait it out.... (I missed the show in Eugene....) )
Dude I saw this Instagram video live and then I went to the concert down here in miami and they played eon Blue apocalypse and the patient I was so happy man I never thought I’d hear that song live
I remember an interview many years ago in which one of them said that part of the joy for them listening to music growing up was the sense of mystery that their favorite bands were shrouded in, trying to figure out what they were doing and how they did it. I'm really happy that they managed to break free from that philosophy.
First time hearing this band, but it's amazing all the talented UA-cam bands out there. These guys are simple yet complex at the same time. Want to hear more.
I was in alot of jam sessions from country , jazz, n rock guys. My fav was Pitch Union from windsor they takealot of cues from tool, and pearl jam. Love music
Shows you how much of an impact maynard has with his vocals...A true impact that sublimes the ridiculous amount of talent at play between the 3 of them
The intro is the most iconic tool song to me, the guitar really gives you the feeling of time ticking away. This is a tie for me along with lateralus. I can’t choose, you can’t make me
This is bada makes it easier to learn adams tone. Cliff burton and justin are why i love playing bass. Adam is a huge reason i love guitar al9ng with many but adam is one of the top main guitarist to me
I would’ve diedddd to see them play the patient live!!! This song has been and will forever be a getaway for me and something that shows a light at the end of the tunnel
That’s what some people don’t understand. I know people talk shit about Tool calling them overrated. But there’s more to them. Anyone who actually understands music. Will say the same thing. Playing live the way these guys do. Is something else. All those switches. I always tell people. Try to steadily bob your head to Tool. It just doesn’t work due to all the time changes. Everything sounds off beat. But it’s actually on beat is what I say to simplify things.
The instruments gets put together first in Hollywood. Then the finalized track gets send it over to Maynard in Arizona to construct the vocals, literally in his bedroom. That’s is why Maynard is not physically there in these sessions. No other band really uses this kind of method, let alone to be capable off, except for TOOL. That’s true TRUST amongst the band members. Spoke to Danny about this at his “Volto” show at the “Baked Potato” on a few occasions, very humble and kind man btw. If you can find your way to studio city try catching his shows where he’s pretty much practicing new techniques. 🇺🇸
Lol dude, a LOT of bands have and continue to use this 'method' of recording. Hell, majority of artists between 2020 and 2021 had to do this because of COVID. I love Tool and all, but c'mon.
@@mickschnabel Agreed and I was fortunate enough to see Tool open for Primus at their New Years Eve Bash '95/'96, Tool played mostly songs off Ænima and that was months before it was even released. To this day, its The Best concert I've been to
I'd be so bored doing the same thing over and over again. Glad they're noodling, cause dang. After 30 years playing some of the same stuff, that must be absolutely draining.
It amazes me how some people just can create music.. just to go and start playing. I have nothing.. i would never ever be able to do this. Im glad others can!
i actually love the way the tempo drags when they play live. it feels so real and personal. primus also does that. i think less bands should play to a click

Maynard is somewhere jumping up and down in a barrel full of grape's...
you mean every single metal song?

Just to show everyone how amazing they are, they did it all left handed.
best comment, and probably true
Ambidexterous... 😆
I believe Danny is also u see using drum sticks between his toes

That is so funny
And Justin over there hitting power chords on his bass. Just so fn epic. Anyone that doesn't think this is the greatest band ever is fn nuts man
Folks can't appreciate real musicians and real music.
Doesn't get any more raw or intimate then this. It's like your standing in their jam room with them
i wish i could get intimate with this
You’re right, I don’t think I’ve ever seen TOoL preform like this before.
The Patient.
Directly from Lateralus.
The most incredible album in history.
Without Question bro. I was blasting it on a long desolate drive last night and literally said outloud, This is my favorite album of all time. It doesn't /Can't better than this. Pure genius every second that was recorded.

Given it was recorded on a phone, I doubt it's picking up the bass properly at all.

voice is an instrument too!
If they keep practicing, they could make it big someday.
and find a vocalist
I've never noticed that bassline on 7:03. That sounds beautiful on top of the guitar melody
