Might have freaked out the battery's protection circuit. Did you try charging it perchance? I had a Fenix 16340 go "dead" all of the sudden and it only came back to life after I plugged it in to a charger for a second. Been fine ever since.
Are their batteries sensitive to falls? I just finished editing the E28R video and had the same issue with the drop test on that one as well as this one.
@@WorkshopAddict I have a PD36R with a Fenix 21700 cell and have not had problems after numerous drops. All of the Fenix lights I have are solid. Will your battery accept a charge?
Imho the special modes such as strobe, SOS and beacon should be on the other side of the rotary switch. I.e one side of the rotary switch should be for light only (low, med, high and turbo).
The reason that the PD40R doesn't have a tail switch is because Nitecore holds the patent for a ring control with tail switch. I prefer the Nitecore SRT7GT because it has the ring, tail switch and a little more throw. The downside of the SRT7GT is that it is only 1000 lumens and uses an 18650 battery. Thanks for the review.
I like the rotary switch myself, but I think needs more differentiation between turbo and strobe. There's a bit of resistance between "off" and the first level, to make it more difficult to accidentally activate the light. I think there should be a similar resistance between Turbo and Strobe, so you know when you've "maxed out" the light. Thanks for doing some of the Fenix lights. They're a fascinating group of lights, but they don't seem to get nearly as many reviews as the Olights and Thrulites. Great though those two latter lights brands are, it's great to see some of the Fenix lights get reviews!
To your last point of them not having much reviews, I guess since they're Chinese brands, and with most of these flashlight reviewers are mostly these chad outdoorsy types that's all about America, they're hating on the brands like fenix and nitecore, even though they're really good quality lights. I've had the PD36R for almost 6 years now, and it's been through hell and back, literally, it was submerged in flood water for 3 days straight, been dropped hundreds of times on tarmac (I work at an airport) and it's still working like the first day I got it
This light was desgined as an EDC light. So no tail switch. If you prefer the over-hand tactical grip then you would be looking at any of FENIX's other lights like those from the TK series. Or the PD. FENIX lights are typically on the pricy side. So many other more affordable choices with more output. And better UI. I bought a TK16 recently for the "tactical aspect"...for that purpose it's exceptionally well designed...from the UI to the fact that you can operte the light 100% one-handed from the tail...2 buttons. Not sure I'd buy another FENIX....mainly because of the cost:performance....and mostly basi UI. THE TK16 was also one of their cheapest models. Amazon. The PD40R....common complant is the lack of knurling. :) If it had vertical groves. Odd they didn't include that. would seem obvious. But I do like the concept of being able to cycle back and forth between themodes. No need to ramp up the lumens all the way up to HIGH or LOW to get to a certain lumens e.g. Thrunite TT20.
Lol, thanks for the drop test and review of the beam. When I get bored or when I am ready for a new light, I can drop my light repetitively and it might just break 🤣
You should try a 4000mah samsung 21700 (40T). The 40T will be able to EASILY supply this light with enough current where a (probably) 50E might have trouble since it is only rated for a few amps of continuous discharge. Dial controls are nothing new as the old Surefire U2 Ultra had a hall effect control ring. Personally, I *really* miss the U2 and would love to see a modern take on it. This light is close but not quite what I really want.
I ordered a spare Fenix ARB-L21-5000U rechargeable battery and when fully charged it indicates a blue light at the top of the battery but the one that came with my flashlight indicates green when fully charged. Why two different fully charged colours for the exact same batteries ?
@@vaughnburrows I have owned everything from a 2000 series up to a 5085m. My suggestion is to go with your gut on sizing and bite the bullet the first purchase. It is expensive to upgrade each time you need it.
FYI: I have not been able to get the 21700 Battery cell working since the video was published.
How did the non-proprietary battery do against drops? Have you tried that too?

One of the better flashlight reviews I've seen, good job.
Appreciate that
For sure this video is how reviews ought to be.

Nice review. I'm about to do my review of this exact light also. I know this is an older video, but that doesn't take away the good review aspect.

would you prefer this light or Warrior x Pro ?
I like the Warrior X Pro. But they are two different lights for two different purposes.
Good video and I like your workshop 👍🤠
Thanks 👍
Can you tell me the difference between the b2 and v3? I ordered the V2 by mistakke mistake but don't know the difference

Are you in Canada or something?
Lol using fahrenheit and you're asking if he's in Canada?
Your neighbors must hate it when you test flashlights.
The dogs sure do! Actually, we are off the road a ways so most would never know.
I just ordered this because of the ease of use i have Walmart lights but this is my first Decent light So the tell switch don't matter to me
I was thinking about buying one of these until I found out it doesn't have a tail switch and I saw the beam on turbo, that's weak! I'm out.
Did you ever do a review on your John Deere?
