I can attest to the quality of the fenix PD36R (the original) it's a workhorse and doesn't wanna give up, even after being submerged in flood water for 3 days, all I had to change was the battery (because I modded it with a 3rd party pocket clip which I had to drill into the body) other than that it's been working like a charm, even the usb slot didn't experience any damage cause it's also water resistant and lost it's rubber cover a long time ago. I'm an aircraft mechanic and I've dropped it hundreds of times on the tarmac at the airport and it didn't even care. Thinking of retiring it just cause I want a new one, and it's predecessor seems good with the dual tail button. Thanks for the review, love from Malaysia.

I noticed the run times on the PD36R are a lot better 30 lumens/115Hr and 150lumen/26Hr especially. Bout the same on medium and high is 800 for almost 6 hours instead of 1000 for 4Hr on the pro and considering I don't really use turbo except to show off how bright my light gets I think I'll keep the original. I tend to use the lower settings a lot more and prefer the longer run times. Great review! New sub here.

That’s the problem with the new PD36 Pro, the run times suck. You won’t even notice the lumen difference of 1000 vs 800 but you will notice that extra 2 hours of run time!

Love my fenix lights, own several different flashlights, and the HL50 headlamp.
The ONLY gripe I have with them is that rubber charging port cover. From the first time you open it till the light dies years later, you will NEVER be able to get it to close and *stay* closed.
I like the system on the TK20R V2.0 I have on my X-95. The screw down bezel is really nice, and I feel like if I had to crawl through the muddy trenches of Ukraine, I could rely on the cover to keep crap out of the charging port.
Other than that: Fenix makes amazing lights.

The PD36R pro is my current go to light for work and EDC. I do like knowing where the tailswitch is on the bottom vs searching for the side mounted power switch on other models, but I do miss being able to stand it up like I could on my Fenix E35 v3 (although that light had functionality issues). My favorite Fenix lights have been the FD40 and FD31 which has the "zoom" function, but for some reason have been discontinued.

This lamp is a beast! No, really it is! Even its 350 lumen mode is brighter and more far reaching than several other top brands 500 lumen modes! Its the first flashlight that really exceeded my expectations! I have couple other lights from Fenix, M2r pro and warrior mini 3 and few lesser lights from Olight, couple from Nitecore + Princeton tec and Armyteks headlamps. You know how you allways, even if you really like the torch, wish or thought it would have been just little more powerfull...? This one is that flashlight that was even more powerful than i hoped it would be!!! And i really like Olight, maybe still more than Fenix but this is my favorite light when i want to illuminate the darkness. I like the rotary dial, i like how you really have to twist it when jumping on extra modes. I personally believe that even if i bought one of Fenix searchlights i would still say that this is their finest light. Atleast in my eye its very bright even on lower settings. I like the beam of this light too; clearly more spot than flood but with enough of bright spill. Youll get best of both worlds allmost, even though its still more spotlight type of torch.

I don’t understand why manufacturers put amazing features on some of their products and not others.
For example the twist reveal/conceal charge port on the Fenix PD25r should be the charging port on all their flashlights.
I want the Olight Mini Warrior 2, the Fenix PD25r and the Klarus XT1A to have a baby.

@@MichaelB2L yeah sometimes you find the perfect features and size and button configuration but then they ruin it with a UI that doesn't suits you at all 😒
Now I'm looking for something with more throw than the XT1A or the WM2, something around 350m. I'll be looking for the PD35R but maaan the price on these 🫣
Also I'm with you with the proprietary battery thing... I love my Olights but man I'd hate to go without power and running out of light having a bunch of good 18650 laying around just waiting to be used. And I'd rather use my few battery packs to charge my phone instead of my flashlights...

    • @MichaelB2L
      @MichaelB2L Рік тому +1

@@battube44tqs Yep! The PD25R would have been excellent if you can access all modes using the tail button, but you have to turn the light on using the tail button and then cycle through the modes using the body button.
An update XT1A with USB C rechargeable batteries, a crenulated bezel and tail stand ability would make it awesome.
Olight can and have made USB C rechargeable batteries. Annoyingly they continue to use their proprietary chargers. I do however find the magnetic bases very useful.
The WM2 is the best light I can find for me at the moment, it’s just a bit too long and the head too wide for to comfortably pocket carry it. The dimensions of the original WM were as big as I’d pocket carry, shame you can’t bezel down carry it and it turns into a hand warmer very quickly.

    • @battube44tqs
      @battube44tqs Рік тому +1

@@MichaelB2L for me the perfect UI gives me instant acces to turbo, strobe and low or moonlight.
The XT1A goes all the way back to 2018 so maybe they'll come out with something new this year! 😁
I really love the magnetic base charging too! I mostly use it for my Obulbs because those are the lights that I use the most at home.
I gave away my original MW because I could not stand the bezel up thing and without the clip the almost perfectly cylindrical shape of it made it eazy to accidentaly stick your thumb on the lens. Also you could only attach a lanyard on the clip 👎

Scott Klatt, PD36TAC, TK16V2, PD36R, PD36R PRO next (because I haven't tested one) and then they have a new light called the WF26R with charging cradle!! It's an upgrade to the RC20. I own the E35V3 and it is a great EDC light however, not the best choice for good throw or ease of use when you need light in a quick way. That's where rear switch flash lights are dominant, of which takes me back to the lights I just mentioned. The TK11TAC is an excellent light for that as it sports the same tail switch as the PD36TAC, bright, and only 3 light output settings. It has the mechanical rear rotary switch that you can lock, switch to tactical mode, or to duty mode.
My favorite go to pocket light is the LD30. Rear switch activation, side switch functionality, and the perfect overall size. I wish I had 10 of them!

This is a much closer competitor to the Olight Warrior 3S than the Baton 3 pro max. Both Warrior 3s and this Fenix run SFT70 led that makes them much more throwy and less floody overall. They are also more tactical oriented with momentary tail switches in addition to secondary switches for switching levels/modes.
The Baton 3 pro max is an excellent flashlight. I have the Baton 3 pro (non max version, slightly smaller). The Baton will be smaller overall and shorter than Fenix or 3S. Only 1 button for operation, very floody but not much reach for longer distance spotting. But I love the tail standing and magnetic tail caps of Olights. My Baton 3 pro is my work light and I have dropped it many times on concrete floors and it's totally fine.
Both Fenix and Olights make excellent products and both are very durable in my personal experience.

I don't see the point in having the PRO over the TAC and R. The TAC has the rotary knob which some might like for quick access to LOCKOUT, daily and tactical. Which is to me just clever marketing to say they added new features....all of which can be accomplished with any other flashlight. The PD36R....does have the side switch for those that don't want to be in "FBI mode" having to hold the light over your shoulder height. and would prefer an undersnd grip/EDC.
The TK16 is the same light but with more max lumens. and an aggressive 3 tungsten point s for glass breaking if needed and more effective "self-defence". which I think is THE light to own for your first FENIX light. The TK20R? Not sure what it'sselling point is. Or why FENIX put it out. Nothing outstanding about it....its down 100 max lumens from the tK16...has a metal collar hiding the USB and LED...big WOOOP

Not worth the upgrade, and herre is why. Low light longevity. On 30 lumens, the pro lasts for 42hrs. Non pro lasts 115 hours! Sure 25% less candella, but will last you two weeks running it 12 hours a day, vs 3-1/2 days with the pro. On the highest sustainable settings, the pro can do 1000 lumens for almost 4 hours, but the non pro does 800 for just under 6.
While it is true the pro has more candella per lumen, the non pro provides a comparable light intensity, for far longer, especially at the lowest settings.
If you are looking for a survival flashlight for hiking or camping, the non pro is far better. If you want a really bright output for only a brief moment, then yeah, the pro is better.
One more point is having the side switch, it is far easier to engage the strobe than the tail cap without having to hold your arm in a tactical posture while you walk through the woods or along a trail. It just sits by your side, ready for action.

  • @yourpalcraig

I do not recommend this light. It boasts a 3000 lumen output which is ultimately unusable due to high heat created and a very quick step down. It’s basically a 1000 lumen light that they’re charging way too much for. I had it for a day before returning it. 1400-2300 is a safe lumen output for an 18650 or 21700 battery flashlight.

If you buy a 1000lm 18650 light, it's really a 400-600 lumen light in practicality. If you want a constant 3,000 lumens or something like that, you're gonna have to spend more and get a larger light.
