MK 3 is the arcade game with the best game play ever. Game speed and the addition of the "run" button are the essence of this game. Even if it wasn't a perfect game, it's definitely my favorite.
Glad to have you back.
Thank you my friend
That's what made this game revolutionary The game literally had 3 updates to it This game is a true masterpiece of it's time
Back in my college days, when this came out I remember learning that the game upon its initial release was at an arcade back where I grew up, so I would travel the hour-plus on the weekend early in the morning to hit that arcade up on a Saturday morning to play it. Stryker was my first character of choice, and thanks to the internet I learned the moves so I could go and be quite dominant with that character, which made the watchers go OOOOH and AAAAH...lol...great memories. Great game.
Sounds like great times. Back then playing against people meant playing around people, so the memories are very strong. Now I can't remember anything from the hours of online play.
Well said, the both of you's.. I remember CoD:MW the 1st one in PS3, cuz back then, only 1 of us in the crew had a ps3 so we would gather at his place and take turns playing online..those memories are seared in. Now years later, after playing "SOLO" online, no real memories of any of that..
Another example of true in-depth videogame culture! Your documentaries should run on many TV programs continuously in spite of all the rubbish we see nowadays! Thanks Patman! Have a lovely sunday
Is nice of you to say, that you enjoy the content so much. Thank you :-)
Once again, thank you very much
You are the man. No one ever mentions the fatalities being either watered down or rushed. Im so glad you attempted to find out why. This is one of the main reason I dont like this version.
Pug-lease. There was no rush and he didn’t do jack shit to try and uncover. He reached out and surprise, they didn’t respond to some lowly UA-cam channel. Lol
@@maxpower10k Of course there is no rush, they Just had a deadline Working on a large-scale project that brings in millions of dollars. I would tell you to unsubscribe But it looks like you aren't So why don't you go watch some other channel. For the record, I have spoke to Ed Boone In The past who actually reached out to me.
Thanks, you are right. I did a lot of research on this video and nobody ever talks about the fatalities being watered down.
@@maxpower10k stop wasting your mum's Wi-Fi kid
My nigga, im 41. Im a man. This was not Pats best work, sorry you got butthurt over a comment that wasn’t even aimed at you. 😂
So glad to see you’re still making vids. I always watch for the history and information but I keep coming back for the jokes
I appreciate that, Glad you enjoy my silly sense of humor
I never thought I would see The Zapruder Film be referenced in a game review! Well played, sir!
LOL, wasn't sure if anyone would get that are not :-)
Another game that emptied my pockets when I was a teen 😆😂🤣
Shine on!
2011? That's like a million years from now.
Actually, it’s 10 years ago.
@@mariodykstra6555 Actually, you're pretty thick headed.
I can't wait for the third Mortal Kombat film to be released 10 years in the past; I'm in my DeLorean now to head back in time for the premier!
Thinking same thing......"2011"
I remember in the early to mid 2000s people were making rumors calling the 3rd movie MK Devastation. The name doesn't sound as badass now as it did back then.
So glad you're up and running after that health scare. Hope you're doing well
Oh yikes... didn't know he had one. What was the scare?
@@MrBlockton Basically said he had a health issue, but didn't specify which one although he did say it was not Covid.
Thank you my friend for the nice words :-)
MK trilogy is one of the best MK games ever. I had it on N64
@@mikeychainsaw9760 I agree.
YES! My favorite game EVER! I have 5 MK arcade machines in my living room lol
Also im sure it was on purpose but Rain is only a part of the attract mode screen as a joke :-)
I’m coming by later !
Cash app me bro lol
I love these videos. The second half showing all the various ports is always really interesting.
Patman bringing that quality content!! Glad to see ya back man.
Thank you very much :-)
My mother still has my Rzone. My daughter tried it and the sadness was just too hilarious.
Man I love your videos. Straight to the point, informative, with out trying to hard or being over the top begging me to smash like buttons, etc... keep up the awesome work
I usually only ask for a thumbs up at the very end :-) thanks for watching and I appreciate the nice words
Yes, I've been waiting for a new vid, and this one was GREAT! Thanks Patman!
Glad you enjoyed it! Sorry for the delay
Glad you're doing better. Turd on a popsicle stick made me laugh out loud.
No jokes about the Scorpion animality? Where he turns into a penguin
Possibly my favorite fatality ever
Always glad to see one of your vids in my inbox.
I appreciate that! Thank you
Thanks again, Patman. These are my favourite video game vids. I love the research and detail.
Glad you like them! Thank you
I’m not going to lie, at first I was like, “this dudes voice is crazy.” But as I watch more and more, I get it! You just gained a new subscriber my friend!!!! Please keep up the good work!!!!!!
MK3 will always be my fav MK game. I just loved the combo system and the amazing sound effects. Even all the manekin parts when bodies blew up were funny to me 😅
I always loved the audio in this game.... the exaggerated screams and yells always killed me....i love this game
Love your videos a lot of information I never knew about the behind the scenes making of these masterpieces.
My parents bought me this game for pc and i was initially a bit disappointed because i wanted to play the original characters so badly.. but after a while i actually really liked that it was so different to the first two games, the lack of original characters made me think that they had died in the first two tournaments and the story was progressing and it made the first games feel even more special as I could only see those characters by going down to the arcade and playing them.
beautiful video mate nice work as usual!
MKII was always my favorite because it was the pinnacle of FMV and improved on MK.
That Game Boy music...-shudder-
So excited when I saw a new vid from you.
Thanks for the doc! I think MK3 has the fastest controls which is nice. I find that pulling off a move at the last second is much easier in this game than others. For that reason alone I like playing this one better. For instance, I can freeze an opponent, dart over with the run button, and perform a six-hit combo all in a matter of a few seconds, which I can’t do with any of the other games. It forces you to pay attention constantly
Excellent video. I was impressed by your thoroughness although that's come to be expected by now considering how high you continually set the bar.
Thank you very much!
Welcome back. Great video, too
It's good to see you back Patman!
Thank you
Awesome video as always Patman, keep it up.
Thanks a ton!
Love your videos.
MK3 - the music here is absolutely amazing
Thank you very much!Bob
'Turd on a popsicle stick' is now my go-to insult. Thank you good sir.
So speaking of the Gameboy ports, how MK3 on the Gameboy managed to repeat all the problems with the first game after they had actually FIXED most of them for the second game will always baffle me. It almost feels like these ports were released out of order.
Anyway, great video as always! Love all your content!
I agree, It's like they took two steps back when the released this game. Glad you enjoy the videos :-) thanks
glad you are back. missed you during the brief pause. always enjoy your history on all the games i grew up with.
Glad you enjoy it!Thank you
Yaaaay! The best Internet Gaming History Professor is back!!!
LOL, that's very nice of you to say :-)
another awesome video patman
Great video! Your commentary is perfect!
Thank you! 😃
Gotta love the Prince reference with the purple ninja Rain.
Just found this channel and man, I love it! Then again, I'm 40yrs old. Probably explains it lol.
Awesome, thanks so much
Hi Patman
Not only your videos are still full of nice infos about the games, but also you bring them with humor and passion.
Great job one more time, and greetings from France again!
Thank you so much, glad you appreciate my silly sense of humor. Cheers
Love these videos!
Glad you like them! Thank you
Another great Patman video! 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you
2021 ... regardless. glad to see more vids from you! your voice is always relaxing to hear
Thank you
Yay! The PAC is back! So glad you're better! I recently got my MK3 (longbox) copy for the PS1.
Fantastic, thanks for the nice words
Yay PatmanQC video. Today is a good day
Thanks a ton :-)
Burst out laughing at "turd on a popcicle"
I looked everywhere for the prima strategy guide when this first came out thank you dad for getting it for me! ♥️🇵🇷
Glad I could help!
Love the videos that you make. Great information. Keep it up.
👍👍
Glad you like them! Thank you
I remember UMK3 being the first MK game I ever actually owned without having to barrow it from my uncle like Mk 1&2.. It's still my favorite to this day. Purely because of nostalgia.
Great video ! I actually loved MK3 when it was released
Thank you very much
My favorite game in the franchise. I love the combos.
Just a few years ago (2016 or 17) I was taking a road trip and stopped at some random mom and pop restaurant off an exit somewhere in Illinois. There was a room in the back with a pool table, when I decided to walk back there and shoot around, I saw they STILL had MK1, MK2, and UMK3 arcades lol... of course I had to pump some quarters in and get a blast to the past! You can get your own MK machine these days, but it's rare to still find them in public.
Fantastic, it's amazing they still had all three. I would have dropped some quarters as well
MK3 Ultimate was my absolute favorite out of the entire series, even to this day. Just felt so mysterious with fun secrets to hunt down. I also loved the level transitions. On top of that, it had my favorite charater, Cyber Smoke.
Yes the level transitions were very cool
Great video! - so much I didn't know about these games.
Glad you enjoyed!Thank you
Whoa! Those videos of the actors/actresses posing for the rotoscope or whatever are amazing! I've never seen this for this game! That Millenna is gorgeous, that Jax amazing - totally looks like game Jax!!!
I thought they were really cool as well which is why I had to include them
"With a third movie due to be released in 2011..." Love this channel and such but uh... what?
Getting back on topic though one thing this game did I really liked was that they hid codes for MK3 EVERYWHERE. The two I remember being the credits for the first MK movie, and with a code they would show up in the pinball table Theater of Magic's Safe Escape mini game.
He made a mistake. Thanks for pointing it out
I thought he was making a joke. Wasn't there a lot of talk of a third movie ten years ago? Or am I totally off my rocker?
@@forresthunter1483 i think he was referring to the 3rd one due out in 2021. He wrote 2011, instead of 2021 in the script I would guess.
I don't think he really made a mistake by saying that. Remember Mortal Kombat Rebirth in 2010? Well, it was supposed to lead to a full movie in 2011. Sadly, that didn't happen. We got Legacy, however, so there's that.
@@evilpeti right, that's what I was thinking of!
22:35-Maybe it’s because I watched an episode of _Deep Space Nine_ tonight, but I think we finally know where the Jem'Hadar got their VR headsets for their ships....
Huge fan here! Thanks for sharing your knowledge
I appreciate that!Thank you
Another masterpiece of a vid! I agree with you on mk3. Something did feel of for sure. The difficulty of that one is of the charts. I think they changed that in ultimate mk3. Both felt extremely difficult from the first 2 though. Awesome job with the vid! 👍
Thank you for the very nice words, glad you enjoyed it
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries The Vanilla version of Mortal Kombat 3 had ninjas. Sub-Zero (Kuai Liang) had a unusual ninja uniform and those cyborgs were ninjas.
Omg. MK3 is very hard, even on very easy. The roaster seems brutal than the first two
I remember pulling out Graveyard, The Portal and Kano Noob Saibot battle using the Kombat Kodes to activate them in MK3 on the SNES version. I also recall playing the Bosses too with fatalities that were the same as MK Trilogy too using the cheat menus. Yes! There were work arounds but, the content was there. That was the second best port.
Stryker has gotta be the dorkiest looking character in any fighting game.
He'd fit perfectly in any nu-metal band at the beginning of 2000.
Dude, OG Stryker was badass. Armageddon Stryker was pretty dorky, but none come close to Mokap.
I don't know. Subzero looks like Al Gore in this one.
Any character in Way of the Warrior or Kasumi Ninja looks way worse than Stryker.
@@floyd2386 He makes Johnny cage look as cool as he thinks he is.😅
What a comeback, better than Rock IV. WELCOME BACK, TOP VIDEO, JUST REALLY RAD!! ROCK-ON!!!
Thank you very much
Cool and interesting video 👍🏻
Thanks!
Glad you liked it!Thank you
I love the sounds of arcade MK
So do I :-)
Mk3 definitely has the best sound. 5/5!!!
Mk3 definitely has the best sound. 5/5!!!
Another great video!!
Thanks again!
Great video , Pat . I really hope that you are doing well .
Thank you very much, still recuperating but working on it
I love MK3, the 10 button combo system was the best
This was my favorite version but you're right the fatalities are on the wacky side and was that superman at the end there telling me to play with myself lol!
The excessive body parts was something I didn't like. Who has 2 skulls, 5 legs, 6 forearms, and about 10 major arm/leg bones? Animalities also seemed like an afterthought. They would've been much better without that weird glow around the animations and a few more frames.
Rain was only teased in the intro frighting Shao Kahn in Ultimate MK 3 for the arcades. He was later made playable on versions and MK Trilogy and since then he has become a fan favorite being a dlc character twice.
I got mk3 for sega genesis in the 90s and guide book.. man I played that game so much.. as an adult I played umk3 online. So awesome
It's really cool That they made a version with online play
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I played on mame and ps3 mk arcade kollection
I had alot of fun beating that mk3 "galaga" with a friend on Genesis. Its 2 player only and took lots of tries, even though it's only a few waves long. Have to have a friend to beat it.
Awesome, I never did beat the minigame
I spoke with Carlos Pasina and he said he wasn't evolved with MK3 because he was working on Midways Open Ice at the time. Which was a hockey version of NBA Jam.
I can't wait for 2011 to get here so I can finally check out the third Mortal Kombat movie!!!
Flawless Video!
You win!
LOL, thanks
Love the Zapruder film reference! hahaha
LOL, thank you
I do love these longer videos.
A lot of people do, but they take quite a bit longer as well
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries understandable. Either way your work is very much appreciated.
@@GODCONVOYPRIME And I'm sure you enjoyed my two hour castle Vania series LOL thank you
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries very very welcome!
Great video Norm McDonald
Thanks
I actually loved this one and MK 2. Haven't played it in long time but plan to fire it up today. Still got that midway arcade treasures 2 on the PS2.
Welcome back man, I really hope you are ok man with that health scare you had. You are back so that's a good sign. That new MK movie trailer looks bad ass though. Have you seen it?
Yaaaas!!! Thank you for this.
Thanks for watching, hope you enjoy it
I had the SNES version of the Ultimate edition I saw it at the mall with my dad and begged him to buy it for me. It was $70 brand new. But my dad and I and my friends had many great years playing it.
Big Trouble In Little China
Will always be my
Secret Mortal Kombat Movie
I agree
I think the combination of the excessive lightheartedness and the more modern locale were what turned me off from this one... although the post-apocalyptic look does look cool.
My feelings exactly
I'm totally familiar with mortal Kombat trilogies..
Which is still the best home console application ever..
I enjoyed it back in the day but it hasn't aged well in my opinion
oh my i had to go and listen a few times because i thought when you were talking abou the silhouette figure Noob Saibot that you said something else when you said "since there are no ninjas in the game"
Fun fact: The Brutality which first appeared in the SNES and Genesis version of Ultimate MK3 was made instead of the Animaity due to memory limitation. Because the cartridge of both systems doesn't had enough memory to keep all the contents from Ultimate MK3, Animality had to be remove and since they remove the Animality SNES and Genesis players lose a little bit of the arcade experience but to make up for that Avalanche Software cleverly made the Brutality finisher by reusing all the combo animations in the game and combining them ending the finisher with a deadly uppercut. This finisher didn't eat up memory unlike what the Animality did and make both home ports really enjoyable not to mention combo finishers were getting popular at the time too in parts thanks to the popularity of Tekken and Killer Instinct (and its popular Ultra Combo finisher).
Glad you're back.
Will you be doing a Mortal Kombat 4 video?
It was the last game in the series to be released in arcades, as they cancelled the arcade version of "Deadly Alliance".
Anyway... thanks for the content, brother!
Yes I will cover that eventually. Thank you very much
The hero returns.
Thanks a lot :-)
this was the begining of the fall from greatness in my opinion.
I agree, Mortal Kombat II was the best in my opinion
MK 3 hype was overflowing before its release due to MK 2's excellence.
Thanks Norm MacDonald for this awesome 😎 documentary.
LOL, I have heard that quite a few times in the past
So funny to hear you say that about getting the game when it first came out. I said the exact thing myself with MK2. Paid 69.99 at Meijer's and was astonished at how well it looked on the SNES. But lost interest really fast.
I love the run and do a quick combos but the longer combos was the biggest challenge ever and you gotta do it Very Fast.
Turd on a popsicle stick? You made me actually lol!
Sweet Jesus this was the only MK game I couldn’t complete...the motaro boss was just brutal
As the series progressed the cheapness of the bosses kept progressing as well
Got you’re self a sub ... how ... the wife jokes 😂
00:40 Ouch, that number hurts. I remember playing the original in the arcade.
Those classic look action figures look awesome
They do look fantastic
