    SSD - Solid State Drive is roughly 10 times faster than HDD (Hard Disk Drive - Magnetic Mechanical Hard Disk Drive).
    SSD has several benefits over HDD like,
    1. SSD is more silent as compared to HDD
    2. SSD is thermal efficient thus has lesser heating as compared to HDD
    3. SSD is 10 times faster than HDD
    4. SSD is more reliable; it has lesser crash possibilities
    5. SSD has comparatively longer life than HDD
    6. SSD consumes lesser power than HDD
    7. SSDs are compact in size thus consume lesser space as compared to HDD

    Only advantage HDD has over SSD is it's cost. SSD cost about 4 times higher than HDD.
    If you want performance and huge storage capacity - then considering this combination of SSD+HDD is the best possible choice.
    Almost all big manufacturers are selling laptops with SSD and HDD both. Be it lenovo laptops with SSD and HDD, dell laptops with SSD and HDD, hp laptops with HDD+SSD, acer, laptops with SSD+HDD asus laptops with HDD and SSD both or any other - all these reputed manufacturers are selling most of their best laptops, specially the gaming series laptops with HDD and SSD both.
    This combination of HDD and SSD is almost like match made in electronics heaven.
    SSD brings performance while HDD gives storage - and the duo is cost efficient and thus the value for many package.
    Needless to say that you can consider going for full SSD laptop instead of going for SSD + HDD if you don't have budget issues.

    I have a few questions 1) Do you have any recommendations for how to back up a laptop like this?
    for example, would it be good to get an external hard drive and back up both drives?
    2) How frequently should we back up data in general?
    3) Would pdf and microsoft word documents be active or passive data?
    Thank you for helping me get started being organized on this, haha

    BTW, SSD has limit to how many times you can write in it, while HDD doesn't. once you're past the limit, your drive will be permanently damaged. I went to study in a University in USA. They have top spec computers for student access, but, all of them had HDD due to this very reason.

    • @CommonManLife

      4GB ram is low. I suggest 8GB. If you don't get 8GB then you can later upgrade..but better try for 8GB, otherwise you may face performance issues due to excessive thrashing.

    Can I know are there any differences in performance sides compare between a full nvme m.2 SSD setup and a mix of nvme m.2 SSD and HDD setup? For example in real-life usage does it differ that much? I have also heard some people saying that by using the combination setup, we will enjoy the speed of an SSD and storage of HDD, then what for there are still many people going for full SSD setup, if we could enjoy literally the same speed with a lower cost?

    • @CommonManLife
      @CommonManLife  3 роки тому

      ryzon7 is better and newer chip of two. Ryzon7 gives better performance due to it's 2 additional cores, plus it's better thermal efficient in terms of power consumption and heat produced.
      AMD r7 series compares to intel i7 series. So you can consider r7 latest, but it will certainly cost more than r5. If you are on budget, you can consider r5 as well, it's good for most use-cases including software development.

    Bro where to store games like GTA 5, witcher 3etc??? Ssd or hdd???

    • @CommonManLife
      @CommonManLife  3 роки тому +2

      You can safely install on HDD. Games are loaded and run on RAM, so hard drive has less roll.
      If you have too much extra space in SSD then you can install on SSD as well. SSD will give even better smooth performance, but this is unnecessary. HDD is good enough to install GTA 5, Witcher 3 etc.
      Instead of thinking about hard drive, if you could increase RAM then that will add a lot of value. These games usually require 8GB of RAM. So you can have 8GB of free RAM only if you have 16GB of total RAM.
      If you don't have that much free RAM then also there won't be big issue, but at least 4GB free is must for good performance.
      RAM can easily be upgraded from 8GB to 16 by adding extra RAM chip. Most laptops, including Acer Nitro 5 support up to 32GB of RAM and provide 2 slots.

    • @CommonManLife
      @CommonManLife  3 роки тому +2

      Both choices are equally good. If you don't need much of storage, go for 512 SSD...performance while accessing any corner of storage. If you need storage as well, consider SSD+HDD.
      256SSD is way more than sufficient for development of any sort, be it Mobile App development, Enterprise App dev, Machine learning, Cloud development....anything.
      So you don't have any limitation in terms of development type. It's a general choice for you to choose between performance+storage v/s just the performance.
      For the use case you mentioned, I would go for SSD+HDD. You can consider increasing RAM from 8GB to 16GB, that will bring big performance improvement.

    Would you say it's better to buy a laptop with only SSD and buy an external HDD? I'm planning on to travel with it and wondering if it's best to keep the HDD at home to not risk damaging it

    • @CommonManLife
      @CommonManLife  3 роки тому +3

      There are 2 aspects, one is general purchase guide and other is the one you raised - damage vulnerability.
      In general purchase guide, choice depends largely on use-case. For people who work on less active data at a time (like writer, management etc.), 128 SSD is good enough. People who do development and work on large set of active data - 256 SSD is good. People who work in corporate and need uncompromised speed while accessing any piece of storage - 512 SSD is good.
      If someone is confused between more SSD alone v/s less SSD+HDD for same price - I mostly recommend considering more SSD. SSD gives good performance and hence good experience while accessing any piece of data without worrying if it's stored in this drive or that drive. internal HDD can easily be replaced by external HDD for more storage of passive data.
      About damage vulnerability, it's true that HDD is slightly more vulnerable than SSD. So from damage perspective, it makes sense to consider SSD.

    Like a clear explanation of dual wield from an rpg game, lmao! One does the real damage, while the other is a backup offense, lol

      Using the hdd as the main affects the speed of your cpu(a bit slower)
      But using the ssd is a lot faster while using the hdd as your secondary storage

    Hey man
    1) 2tb hdd and 256 ssd with 1660ti and i5 9th Gen(acer nitro 5)
    2)1tb ssd with 1650ti and i5 10th Gen (rog strix g15)(much better cooling) (liquid paste and stuff)
    I'm a gamer and play at max 3 games at a time. And if I want to play more I uninstall one of them and keep them in a groups of 3 and no more. So what do I go for? Option 1 or 2? 2 is faster smoother and cooler while the option one has 1660ti!..confused! Both same rate btw.

      Yes, slight impact on battery with dual drives (SSD and HDD). Only SSD is battery efficient option.

    Can 4gb ram laptop with dual setup can run without lag??

    • @CommonManLife
      @CommonManLife  4 роки тому

      That depends on usage. For very light operations, it will work.
      Prefer at least 8GB of RAM, otherwise the trashing (off loading data from RAM to SSD and on loading back into RAM) will kill all performance.

    I have a question. I am a student plus doing my internship at the same time. I want to purchase a laptop for both studies & work purpose. What if I store my files like excel sheets, ppts, pdf files on the HDD. Will I get the speed of SSD or the speed of HDD while accessing these files?

    Now.. They r telling storage in not sufficient.. Wt should I do...
    Plz suggest some thing.

    • @CommonManLife

      You need to check if laptop has a slot and place holder for additional drive, either m2 slot for SSD or sata slot for HDD.
      If there is additional slot to connect and placeholder to place additional drive then you can buy a new drive and plug it.
      If no slot or placeholder inside laptop then you can but external HDD USB 3.0 device. 1 TB HDD would cost only about 4k.

      Go for 512 SSD. Later when you need more storage, you can always go for external USB based HDD, which is economic, fast enough and portable.

    I have a doubt sir, does this dual setup drain more battery than only ssd? I've heard HDDs drain more battery...if yes...how much more battery does it drain?
