Sorry for the plosives, everyone! Was using a backup headset mic on my test bench that I wasn't wearing properly. Won't happen again. Come yell at me on Twitch over it: www.twitch.tv/CoalitionChris
Great video I just bought a SSD to move my world of Warcraft game and addons off my HDd to the new ssd as blizzard recommends a ssd for shadowlands expansion
Hello! Just want share that every time I reformat a pc or even my pc, I always go through this video for like 1 year now. This video is a must and a life saver. U deserve all the likes loves and subs!
Thank god for this video! I just installed a new SSD and installed a 4TB hard drive for all my games. I was having a hard time figuring out what to do next. Every other video was for windows 8 to 10 upgrade and wasnt really what i needed. YOU sir helped me a great deal and i cant express my gratitude enough for all your help. Thank you so very much! ❤
Thanks for this, works perfect. Please note for people moving an EXISTING bootable hard drive, with data, into a slave, you must take ownership of the existing user's root and subdirectories before using this method. Then no need to create directories on the old hard drive because they are already there. When you do this, all the old docs, pics, etc show right up in the SSD's user directories and the user cannot tell anything has happened. THANKS. I do not game but that is good info too
Even with the plosives this is best tutorial I have seen about configuring the uses for each drive. I wish all Windows 10 tutorials were this clear and thorough.
Thank You!!! Everybody else made this so complicated having to download programs that didn’t even work cause of different versions. Thanks again man I can finally enjoy my quick PC
You sir, are a legend. There are strangely a lack of videos on this subject on youtube. Hence my looking at a 2 year old video and trying to find the same info about m.2s. All The best to you mate, subscribed and liked.
Kudo's to you. I F'ing bought a laptop with dual ssd/hdd and of course it's not setup for it and I am no techy. This vid was super easy to understand and do. Now, all my stuff goes to hdd and I just have my os on my ssd- which is all I wanted. I'm amazed at how popular this is, to have 2 drives, yet windows doesn't have some kind of automatic set up for it? Thanks, saved me a big headache.
Thanks so much. I don't know why I haven't heard of this before. I think it should be one of the first things you change when you create a new computer.
Thank god I saw this before I did a complete wipe. Was having trouble with BF1 as it kept saving my settings and glitched my game out of connecting to servers. This really helps.
hey man thank you really i have been trying to figure this out for hours watching other videos and reading online thank goodness i found your video thank you once again
This shi was more useful than every goddamn forum and page i looked at on the internet and etc, bro like im trying to just have my os be alone for speed and consistency and got a second m.2 ssd for storage and games and my software and games etc just kept defaulting back to my c drive and that shi was driving me nuts, ty for at least simplifying alot of this😂
When I try and switch my folders into the new ssd, it gives me an error that I can’t move it because there is a folder in the same location that can’t be directed. Help!
Make sure you are properly navigating to the new folder location on the second drive. That error comes up because you are already inside the target folder the current location is pointing at
Just came across this vid fan bloody fantastic ime just gathering parts to build my 1st gaming pc at age 56 you've just made my life much easier. For my build os and storage problem thank you respect to you sir 👍
Thank you. This helped me so much. I’m new to pc. And I have a 120 gb ssd for the os and a couple games I play a lot. And a 2tb hdd for everything else. But my ssd keeps getting filled up with videos and downloads.
seeing i am rebuilding my 7 year old desk top to more modern specs, my cpu is still a beast seeing it was the best you could buy for an 8 core chip back then. this so far is good video, though i am using windows 8.1 i have upgraded vid card and am going to replace hard drive, i want to keep a mechanical for storage and just use an ssd for boot. so this video actually helps me decide on what size of drives to purchase and save me a few bucks, will be able to change my comp from a tree trunk to a jet ski lol, so thank you, this helps allot so i dont end up spending my sisters cousins nieces nephews left tater tot on parts i wont be using.
Well the tutorial was for windows 10 while also applying to older versions of windows, not newer versions. I haven't tested moving folder target locations like this in windows 11 yet. May have to make an updated video.
Hi! Great tutorial, but I have a question. I have a pc with both SSD and HDD. Where do I see which one is being used as a boot drive? Because I only want my SSD to be running my OS.
@@obeatriz1110 not if you've installed the SSD after windows was already in the computer. If you install the SSD, then install Windows to it, it should become the C drive. Directly selecting the 240gb SSD in the windows install process is the only way to be 100% sure, aside from removing the HDD from the bootable drive list in bios.
Hey, not sure wether you will reply but I was just wondering. All installs automatically go to my SSD folders program files x86 and program files and I just wanted to know if it could do any harm If I put them all in a file on my hdd.
If you redirect any installations during the install process to another drive, it will be fine. Do not drag and drop the files from ssd to hdd if they are already installed, that won't work.
Chris thank you for this tutorial it is extremely helpful for setting up a gaming pc with two drives. I’m setting up a new pc with three drives. An m.2 nvme for OS, a firecuda 2TB for games, and Seagate pro 6TB for all other media storage. How would your setup method differ in my case in regards with setting up the folders? APPRECIATE you in advance!
That makes us power users LOL really nice tutorial I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this I've been doing this for a few years now although I didn't do the very first part and that would explain why I have two of every documents, pictures, and downloads folder lol
Omg! Thank you so much for the tutorial! I was wondering though. So, I had a friend of mine install the SSD in my computer, since my main drive is the harddrive. By following your video to transfer all my files/installations to my SSD, will anything I load through my SSD run at high speed, now that all of my files/installations go to my SSD?
Games and files might load faster but unless windows is on the SSD, it won't be a huge difference for everyday normal usage. You want windows on the SSD for maximum benefit.

How do I safely move steam and epic games to the new drive?
Moving games is more difficult. Look for guides on copying games from one drive to another. Otherwise, uninstall from old drive, install to new drive
