It's a medium price range, higher than budget reels, lower than high end reels.
Anti Reverse is 1 dog and ARB, wish they had 2 but plenty for the fishery we'll do on star drag.
Great video! A complete teardown, maintenance and reassembly video would be awesome since there isn't any videos on Tesoro reel maintenance. 👍

Hey there,.. I have the 12S … great Tuna reel or whatever you want to use it for,… if you want to use it as a surf caster,.. you definitely need to have knobby mag … this reel can be quite unruly when cast long distances.. it will cast a very long long way indeed,… definitely not for novices …
As I have stated,.. great Tuna reel but sometimes you’re casting surface irons and a mag will be ideal 👍😎🤙
Great reel, awesome freespool, plenty of power. Def need control on the thumb for those casting.
When you added the washer between the two concave washers did you get increased drag output..? This is waht I use for surface irons and I am wanting to get more drag..
Hi Bill. In my mind I was thinking that as well. But honestly I think it’s still same. I can still pull line so I prob refreshed it back to factory specs. Will need a scale to confirm. Hopefully I can borrow a buddy’s in the future and let you know. Thanks
I have a rain shadow 7’ 30-60lb I am using for my 30lb rod. It’s custom made by charkbait. What size Tesoro would you recommend? 50lb line 30lb leader
Oooh that’s going to be a sweet rod. Rainshadow has been hanging fish. The Tesoro 10s holds a decent amount in 50lb. And is equivalent to Shimano 16a size, Penn 25n, Daiwa 35. If you feel the need for extra line capacity, the Tesoro 12s will be what you want. That is similar capacity to Shimano 20a, Penn 30, etc.
I paired my Tesoro that trip at end of video with 15-35lb rod but also used it with a UC monster 30-60 rated and kept the same 30lb leader. Going to be a fun setup for you. Get em 🤙
Is cranking easy with huge fish on?
It's 6.2:1 gear ratio which is same as Trinidad/Torium. The speed is fine for me with but my biggest is that 45lb ish YFT on this reel. There's two slots on the handle, if you anticipate big fish, move the handle to longer slot, this gives you extra leverage on the crank.
is it comparable to a trinidad 16 or fathom 25n in size?

Is that same size with shimano Ocea jigger 2000?
It’s same diameter profile, side plate wise. While the spool width is a bit wider and similar as Trinidad 16a.
It would still make a nice SPJ setup if you’re considering it. I also have the Tesoro 5ns, very similar to Ocea Jigger 1500.
@@Seastheday88 is the line capacity also the same 5ns with Ocea Jigger 1500? Sounds good for light set up.

If you plan to palm your hand over the reel to grip it vs the rod for SPJ, just note that the top part of left side plate on Shimano/Saltiga are more flat profile, while the Tesoro has an angled profile. Noting it for comfort wise. I think some will feel fine with either, while my hand shape feels more comfortable with flat profile for more grip. I use these Tesoro mainly for flyline or just dropper loop style rock fishing. Works great. Flyline caught that last pic of the YellowFin Tuna with the 10s, took me around the boat, pulled a bit of line but winched it back in without any concerns.

Hey Boss. Sorry. I know I did, my camera cut off that time and I was finished. I realized only during editing thus added the footage from trip where I used it.
3 types of lube:
Reel grease which is usually blue in color. I use marine grease by Yamaha. On non moving parts like frame itself, I sheen coat it. On the moving parts like gears, clutch, plates that push gear into place and the Dog Pawl and springs. Use the grease.
Bearing lube, I have Penn brand and TSI 321, literally a tiny drip is sufficient on the bearings including a drip between crevice of handle arm and the handle knob itself, it’ll work it’s way to the stem.
Cal’s grease, I used this on the drags. Found online or most local tackle shops. I used the gold/brown one for west coast temp. I believe purple was colder climate temps.

@@Redlegarty thanks brotha🙏 much appreciated. I’ll do a proper one again in the future. I have the 5ns and 10s. They’re underdog rated star drags. Still have Fathoms and Trinidads as well that serve their purpose, but you should’ve seen that Yellow Fin Tuna at end of video in person. I was on a Phenix M1 15-35 custom rod with the 10s and it was bent bent the whole time. Took me around the boat, reel performed flawlessly, just had to trust the prior settings. @@Seastheday88hey I use your vid a lot now to maintain my 10s. Did two long range trips on the excel and caught tons of yellowtail. I have about 150 pounds in the freezer. Smoking some tomorrow. Can’t tell you how much I appreciated you making this video. My 10s thanks you too.
