- Mount Kenya - Batian summit, 5199m - via the north face normal route.
This is a classic rock climbing peak. It is hard and remote and requires a good weather forecast. Over a few days of walking in. We then fixed the first few pitches, we then went for the summit and back down in one day.
We climbed the regular route on Mt Kenya's North Face.
A film by Dave Talbot and Jon Gupta.
Love the energy! Awesome.

Welcome to chogoria and chuka university ❤
classic
what month / time of the year did you go?
Hey @PocketTrailblazer If you’re still on here … how would you rate the summit. I see from one site I reviewed, it’s 22 pitches to the top. I’m UK based and have climbed many multi pitch climbs here and the Alps. Keen to do this 😅
Hi mate i just did it without huge amounts of technical experience but i did have a guide. Was exhausting and amazing and terrifying. The ridge traverses to Batian (the last hour of climbing) were the worst part in terms of danger. And its around 16 hours or so round trip. Go for it, its a hell of an experience!
What website did you use to book the climb
We climbed the route ourselves. We used a local agent for porters and permits.
hey im looking to climb mount kenya this november can it be done without guide? Im very fit and hike at least 10 times a year
No you need a guide in the national park but you can climb the peak without one. The true summit involves rock climbing but there is a smaller peak for trekking.
@@Dave.Talbot.Adventure.Events thanks for the answer, so what's preventing me from just taking a bus to the base of the mountain and start walking? I've seen that the paths are quite well defined and hard to miss. 🤔
@@thomaskoukouris4070 as you have seen from the start , with the Buffalo head carcass, there are wild animals in the area . You need a local guide .
@@nt6001 ended up going with a guide in the end about 3 months ago. There are animals, mostly elephants on the way to the mountain. But whoever sees this message..get a guide...for the high altitude sickness. That's the most dangerous thing on the whole mountain.
