We sometimes fried cornbread. Mama called them Johnny Cakes and cooked them in the oven in a cast iron corn stick maker. They came out very crispy and buttery. I really enjoy the variations. It seems to me that all of the different ways to make cornbread (and other favored dishes) are tasty, but it's the love that goes into them that makes the memories so precious. Thank you for sharing your grannies and their cornbread recipes.
Meredith you take me back to what i call the good ole days of eating off the stove with a bowl or glass of milk. Really enjoy your shows . And look the fact of sweet tea nothing better

I make my baked cornbread the same way you do, except I mix white flour and corn meal. I can tell by the way your cornbread looks that the mix you use really is a high quality mix. Preheating the skillet the way you do gives the cornbread a nice crust on the bottom and sides. I like to eat it with pot likker from speckled butter beans, field peas or turnip greens. I also love it crumbled up in a glass of icy cold buttermilk.

Hi to you from County Durham, England! We're sheep farmers who very much enjoy watching your videos. It's great to catch a glimpse of American farming life!
The cast iron cornbread skillets that have the pie slice shaped dividers make all the sides of each piece of corn bread crisp (the best part!) Those pans make great brownies for the same reason. Crispy sides on every brownie. You made me crave cornbread with this video. You're the BEST!
@@JamesStaudacher- You need to cook lots of bacon or other oily foods to season the cast iron. Wash the pan with water, and wipe clean and dry with paper towels. Apply a thin coat of cooking oil before storing. Never use dish soap or put in a dishwasher.
My mom would make three pans of cornbread for lunch, with a husband, her dad, and four boys to feed and often there would be none left when we left the table. Including syrup for dessert. Thank you for your time and these amazing videos. Your family is blessed to have you in their lives.

Next morning have fried mush cooked in bacon grease, and have bacon and eggs over rasy with it. Yum yum. Got hungry for cornbread watching it. Thanks a lot. Lovrs😊
This looks really good. I had a granny from Kentucky who made really good cornbread. I make it from a box. Was always scared to try it from scratch but it looks easy might try it . Question for you last 2 times I made it it was crumbly and would fall apart when you tried to eat it, what did I do wrong?
Dang, I think I could actually smell that cornbread! I'm an amateur radio enthusiast (HAM), and part of a widely dispersed group who gather real early and (sorta) late on our radios to discuss everything under the sun. But, the conversation inevitably gets back to food, so we laughingly refer to ourselves as the Cornbread Net! I've shared this with that group and I'm sure you'll spark some new discussions as there's just nothing better than a "cute young thang" who can COOK! As always, thank you!

I have watched a few of your vids, I decided I like you just fine, I just subbed in a few mins ago.... corn bread is best bread ever, I like to use the cast iron drop biscuit pan skillet or whatever it is ,makes seven muffins , for a single man, muffins are easy to store, fried corn bread is a close 2 nd favorite.
Been making cornbread around here for many years. Soup beans to. About the only thing I can actually make myself without burning water. I should have paid more attention to my family and my wife before she passed. Directions help people like me Lololol. Great video. Butter is good for everything 👍🏻👍🏻

My granny used water instead of milk/buttermilk. And we use Pollard corn meal here in Alabama ❤️ fried on stove or in oven just like you- that’s how how I was taught!! It’s slap your mama sooo good!!!🤣

You are amazing I have never seen fried cornbread I cannot wait to taste it
Cornbread, hush puppies, chicken fried steak, I think I want to be a farmer or at least eat like one. I see how hard LB works both you for that matter but LB overworked he may be is one lucky man! What about fried okra and black eyed peas man I’m getting hungry lol
Yuuuum, yuuuum. Have you ever made corn meal mush? (hot cereal) pour cream on top. Whats left over put in glass bake dish in reter over night. Next morning have fried mush cooked in bacon grease, and have bacon and eggs over rasy with it. Yum yum. Got hungry for cornbread watching it. Thanks a lot. Lovrs😊
I've never made or had corn meal mush! :O I need to try it though. :D Thanks for telling me. That sounds sooo good!
I like my corn bread with butter and honey. Your corn bread always looks delicious.
Butter and honey on cornbread is amazing!
Loved it was raised on milk and corn bread and throw in a fresh tomato so delicious 😋
Mmm I'm ready for fresh tomatoes!
Saw your lovely face on a corn bread recipe as I searched YT for one. What could be better ? Nothing.
Ha, this makes my day! Any group called the Cornbread Net has to be a good group!! :D Thanks for sharing!
Meredith love love loved your storytime! Aren't our Granny's the best! That's what they do! This was hands down one of your all time top 5 videos. You had me rolling. I needed to laugh. Thank you so much. Godbless you and your family for all the wonderful videos. Godbless all grandmothers

Yes, I wish I had paid more attention in the kitchen growing up, too! Thanks for watching and sharing. :)
