Ha, I was kind of happy to see you battling that little set screw in the handle as well. By far, that was the worst part of my struggle with this thing.
any recommendations on what to do if your in wall @3:18 valves are frozen? Or if some jack hole tried to force one, say the hot valve, but have now sort of stripped out the flat head area so there's play with the screwdriver but the valve is still frozen in place?
Hi what do you think would be the provlem if on the 2nd floor bathroom all sink and tub and faucet are all working great with great water pressure and only the shower with so little pressure
What do you do when you buy new kohler set they has different valve? Replace the metal part where I’d have to cut pipes and so some plumbing or there’s easier solution with maybe some converters or whatever I can’t find anything new that will work with old valve like the one in video
My daughter just moved into an apartment with a similar valve but the hot and cold are reversed (hot comes on first). Do you know if this type allows swapping hot and cold by just turning the cartridge 180 degrees?
@@diawithraul Yes, finally thanks! Used a small pry tool on the ears one by one until a firm wiggle finally popped it out. One critical note: after replacing the cartridge and the the valve - it still dripped! Found a suggestion on the web to gob all the seals with "Plumbers Grease" instead of just silicone. What I found at ACE was called waterproof grease. Its clear like silicone but a bit pastier and is for plumbing use (valve stems etc.). No more drips for the last three days : ). I do hate when such simple sounding things become such an adventure! Thanks again for sharing - and the reply!
Thanks for the video. I just replaced both pieces on my shower, but when i turned the water back on, the shower flowed and i cant get it to turn off! Any idea whats causing that?
Sorry for the late response, usually there are 2 reasons why the shower will leak after replacing everything which I cover at 8:07 and 12:44. The first time stamp is if the o-rings fall or shifts. Second time stamp I found a year in the o-ring. Thank you for watching.
@@MrMusic55123 Make sure the mixing cap is aligned with the pressure balancing cartridge. It is easy to have the assembly rotated 90 degrees from what it should be. Also be careful that all the o rings are installed and haven't fallen out of position. Good luck.
Did you check the o rings for any rips? That’s what happened to mine, the thin o ring tore causing mine to leak. Feel free to reach out to me through any of my social media DM’s for a faster response. I would love to help you out
As a non-plumber, the large flat washers included in the parts package were confusing. They were only confusing because they fit perfectly where they didn't belong, as you showed. --- Thanks for the great upload. ---
The Kohler shower valve in our bathroom is quite different and so far not covered here on youtube. It is a "shower only" type valve similar to Kohler part # K-8304-KS. There is no tub/bath faucet. It is only 5 years old and leaking through the shower head.
The disassembly of the K-8304 valve is quite different. There are 2 check valves (part #1229168) on the left and right which obstruct the removal of the cartridge (part #GP800881). @@diawithraul
@@diawithraul After I posted this I realized it only works on one of my bathrooms that way. Apparently there's two versions of the valve and one of them does need removed with the Allen key. Sorry for the misinformation.

Very helpful, thanks! You showed all the details I was unsure about. I'm ready to replace my own--thanks very much!

I really appreciated this video. Thx!

Thank worked for me. I only had hot water, no cold. So I could only take 2 minute showers before burning myself!

If it’s frozen you can always just turn off the water to the entire house/apartment.
Thanks of the video. Can you please put the model of the Kohler, and the link of the parts where you bought from
I no longer have the part number for this Kohler Coralais shower mixing cap and pressure balance but you can get them on Amazon or the Kohler website

Nobody from the plumber we hired knows
Help please maybe you have a video link you can send me. Thank you so much
Does the tub spout have good pressure? It could be either the shower head or you need to replace the shower cartridge.

The handle looked very loose before you put the allen key on it. How did it not leak water behind the handle??

Unfortunately this type does not allow to swap the hot and cold by turning the cartridge, I know some other types do though.
@@diawithraul thanks. I haven't opened it yet so now I know not to get my hopes up!
Mines stuck in the housing like an sob! Looking for some type of puller for this valve style...
I hope you were able to free it, the most I’ve had to do was grab some pliers to wiggle it free

Exactly! It fits so perfect but if you try and use the flat ones it doesn’t work. I assume they work on another fixture and that’s why it’s included.
What’s the reason to do this ? Mine has problem about no hot water comes out . But sometime they do ....
Changing the cartridge will help with your hot water issue. Sounds like the hot water side is getting stuck closed from time to time.
Hello,
I would like to replace the whole cartridge, i have the same as yours, can you help me with the model number.
Thank you!
Where will you be ordering it from?

You can see it. Just google Kohler K-8304-KS. The plastic from the 2 adjacent check valves is blocking the cartridge removal.@@diawithraul
You don't need to remove the handle with the Allen key. You can just go straight to removing the two screws and pull the entire trim off
