EP42: Terrific Tully to Townsville - Part 1 | Tully, Misson Beach, Wallaman Falls | Lap of Australia

- PART 1 - What a week it’s been! We start in the wettest town in Australia, Tully, where we have a load of fun rafting down the famous Tully Gorge. We stop by beautiful Mission Beach and absolutely love this tiny little town with one of the best beaches on the East Coast!
On our way towards Townsville, we stop at Ingham to checkout the tallest waterfall in Australia, Wallaman Falls, which drops a massive 268m. Then onto Crystal Creek to have a cool dip in the wonderful waterholes in the area.
PART 2 - When we finally get to Townsville, we spend a week exploring the city, check out the amazing Castle Hill, start our own scooter gang. We spend a day out on the stunning Magnetic Island, visiting some amazing beaches and taking in the WWII history.
To finish the week we have a fantastic stay at the Burdekin Cane Farm and were lucky enough to experience a ferocious cane burn.
We are Hannah, Chris and dog Archie, setting off on a 12(ish) month trip around Australia - our BIG Staycation, with the whole of Australia as our backyard! We've quit our jobs, rented the house and gone from never towing a caravan, to touring the country full time with one! We're learning as we go! / staycationoz

Wow again. That fruit stall sure looked amazing. Not to mention the falls.
Well, you've really done your research well in finding so many places of interest on your route. It was good to see Archie out and about enjoying himself again. Your river rafting very much reminded me of your mum and I canoeing down the Dordogne when we are on holiday in France!!! You mention wearing 'thongs' but you appeared to be fully clothed throughout, so that's puzzling! Beautiful waterfall with lovely surroundings. The gympie gympie leaves looked very similar to those on our European nettles (les ortis), with little hairs on that cause all the irritation but maybe a bit more lethal - I hope they didn't 'get' you. Finally, what an amazing fruit stall - I bet that helped you to be regular for days afterwards !!! Now looking forward to the next episode.

Hey guys, we just went to Wallaman Falls and can’t believe that you did that walk in thongs Chris! We didn’t actually attempt the walk, but talked to a young fit looking couple who were on their way down to do the walk, but retreated 45 mins later……. so full credit to you Chris, especially doing it in thongs!!!!!
The drone footage was unbelievable and was great to re-watch after being there!

Haha yea it wasn’t one of my finest moments! I was so annoyed I forgot them but it was too late to turn around…. And I didn’t want to miss the walk! But I’m glad I did it without breaking my neck lol!! Thanks again for watching!! 👌

Sounds like you’re having a great trip!
Actually just came back to Geelong on 20/11 for grandsons first birthday 🥳 and Dale was taken to emergency that night which ended in open heart surgery because of 2 blocked arteries. So grateful he didn’t have a heart attack whilst on the road and to be back around family and have their support. It came as a complete surprise as he is not over weight, doesn’t smoke etc and generally fit and healthy. Once we hit the cooler climate coming down south he started having a bit of chest pain when he exerted himself but it went as quick as it came.
He will have another 7 weeks of recovery ❤️🩹 then we hope to be heading off again. We have loved our travel so far and a lot of it thanks to you two for sharing your journey with us and the great advice and tools like the budget planner etc which we have truly valued. We have lots more adventures yet to do.

I’m currently on holiday in England (and visiting Denmark and Sweden too) for the next few weeks, but Chris and I have been discussing what our future Australia travel plans are - we’ve had a few thoughts. Great episode guys. I bet you won't do that walk in thongs again. I did a very famous and difficult walk in thongs once - and I'll never do that again! Keep up the great work!
