When Winston looked at Egon and said "I should've called you. I miss you, my friend" I cried. Not teary eyed, but cried
Harold Ramis never wanted this.....
@@StachMan Harold Ramis never wanted some rando telling people on the internet what Harold Ramis didn't want as if the rando had a personal relationship with Harold Ramis.
@@monteestowes1245 I was a friend of his...
@@StachMan and because of that you feel the need to point it out to everyone who enjoyed the movie to make them feel bad?
And how did Harold didn't want this when he passed away in 2014? There wasn't yet a script for this movie 7 years ago.
And how come that you, his friend, is the only one saying this while Harold's family approved this?
I'm not trying to discredit you. I just think you're just trying to make people feel bad about loving a movie that Harold didn't even get to know about.
@@StachMan even if I believed that, you 100% have no clue what someone does and doesn't want at any given moment. People evolve. Except apparently you, Boomer.
When Winston says to Egon "I should've called you. I miss you, my friend" it felt very much like Ernie speaking to Harold. Ahh this was the film we needed!
To see all 4 of them in a row again was such a fantastic moment. They decision to make Egon nonverbal was a very smart, intimate choice.
Harold Ramis never wanted this.....
@@StachMan Shane he didn't wanted. It really turned out great. Maybe if he saw the end result or if he got a chance to read this scrip he could have changed his mind. At the end it was a really good movie and an amazing homage
Its Canon, ghosts in ghostbusters don't talk, only the godlike ghosts. Gozer and Vigo
@Jermare ya wanted it... wanted to make money off it....
@@stewartmcminn7773 Slimer spoke Gibberish. The library ghost “shushed” Venkman. Vigo spoke all throughout Ghostbusters 2. The Subway tunnel in GB2 called out Winston’s name.
Some ghosts have the ability to speak, while some don’t. In this instance, Egon chose not to speak. Though, he could emote and feel. Realistically, Jason Reitman didn’t want Egon to speak because it would be too creepy and painful for the audience, Ramis’ family, and everyone involved with Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
This was an awesome movie and I started to tear up at the end, especially with the "For Harold" at the end as well as his return in the final battle. This was a great movie and I really hope we see more.
Same. Me too. It felt good sharing the nostalgia with my kids. I remember being a kid watching the original.
Any die hard Ghostbuster fan did. I did
I actually teared up when Egon was revealed helping Phoebe hold the neutrino wand in the final battle.
@@ChamplainValleyRailSnapshots This alll gave me aids and cancer and im now going to die
Me too! It was done so well! So much respect!
The fact that the original directors son directed this is a beautiful story with in it's self
Too bad this one BLOWS DICKS
@Garvin Martin CAP 🧢 such a good movie
@@entityisback agreed
And Ivan being the stand in for Egon!👏😇
I heard in interviews he blocked out scenes with ghostbusters toys. There was a time his dad walked past and chuckled. It was like watching his son be a kid again. That's what this movie truly invokes a simpler and happier time.
Critics: this movie references the original to much
Fans: that’s… why we’re here..
But fans, give shit to The Force Awakens doing the same thing
@@nortonman1178 well to be fair the force awakens wasnt that good of a movie
afterlife at least is a good movie and has references
The film makers wants us to revisit the original movie.. or even enjoy and rewatch it with our children.
@@wrrrryyyy12 force awakens was a good movie, and had potential. It was the last Jedi that ruined everything, as it destroyed everything force awakens tried to build and foreshadow, especially with the relationship between Rey and Finn.
@@keithmuset6510 sorry i meant wasnt that good in comparison to old star wars
its still decent in its own right
last jedi almost killed star wars for me but im planning to watch mandolorian soon
I don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but there was another subtle callback to the original 1984 Ghostbusters. The scene where the kids are at the diner looking at the map and planning their next move... it was very reminiscient of the scene where the original GB's were in jail and discussing the Gozerian cult and the end of the world. As Egon is explaning the history all of the other guys in the jail are moving in closer and listening more intently. As the kids are in the diner planning their move, you see the other kids in the booths behind them turning around and listening in and paying closer attention in a similar way.
I absolutely loved this movie! I was in tears with that tribute to Harold and the movie just hit me in all the right feels. I was happy to be able to share it with my 6 year old daughter who loves the Ghostbusters!! I do hope there is more to come from the original crew before they pass the torch to the younger crew.
I absolutely am open to a sequel, they are super respectful to the original films, and to Harold himself
I was just coming to comment this same thing!
I had the same idea with that scene thinking one of the kids in the next booth would have been looking around like, "What are they talking about?" like one of the other guys in the background in the original scene going "Are they for real?"
Yeah, that was anything but subtle. The director made it plainly obvious.
Exactly! I thought: are they gonna say something or notice that they got everyone's attention? Then I remembered the jail scene in GB1! lmao
Afterlife was absolutely exquisite. A more than fitting tribute to Harold Ramis.
My head cannon is that Egon purposely left his family tonot only protect them, but to ensure he had unfinished business so he could help prevent the next Gozer incursion. That's why he goes on at the end after reconcilling with his daughter.
I hope the teased sequal adapts The Real Ghostbuster's cartoon concept where they have to go inside the containment unit.
well I dig that thought! Smart!
@Latest Obsession They could always crossover with Bill and Ted. They are chummy with Grim...lol
textbook aggro pull.
when you're fighting an enemy that's chaotic and unpredictable, you piss it off hard enough that it will follow you away from everyone else.
i think they are prepping for extreme ghost busters. i think that was the ghost busters next generation , which had some fun moments in it as well.
Omg same!! Snap!! And yes, the cartoons had brilliant storylines..i think there's definitely a lot of potential in exporting some of it to the big screen for sure!! Maybe even include some Extreme Ghostbusters characters too? Egon did do a stint as a college teacher in the 90s (extreme gb) so that'd fit in the canon too.
The movie was a straight 10/10. It's a proper Ghostbusters sequel. Can't wait for more.
Let's be fair though amazing it may have took to much from the og
FACTS ....so good
So the other reboot is going to be like The Real Ghostbusters cartoon? LoL!
10? no, 6/7? yes..
Agreed
I cried when Egon steadied Phoebe's arms. It was such a sweet moment.
This movie was absolutely fantastic. Am i a little bothered that gozer returned, no because gozer actually flexes its power more. And that final scene with egon got me emotional
This movie was way better than I thought it would be and McKenna Grace did absolutely amazing
For real best movie this year
I thought it wasn’t very good
@@coopj1187 it wasnt an amazing film but it was decent, fun, and respectful to the source material
@@coopj1187 Agreed. Where was Paul Rudd for most of the movie? WHY does it end like that? Why did you reanimate a dead actor for this?
Jason Reitman was a kid roaming the sets of the first movies, he grew up in that world and it shows. The movie touches every moment we would want to see on a Ghostbusters movie from the perspective of a kid. It keeps things exciting when they investigate, test equipment, drive the Ecto-1 or capture Muncher. And the gunner seat was such a great addition to Ecto-1.
This was by far a PHENOMENAL MOVIE!!! As a Ghostbuster fan since the very beginning, I was born in 1984 an I’ve loved everything about Ghostbuster. This movie was definitely a way to pay tribute to Harold Ramis aka Egon Spengler! This is definitely my favorite movie including GB 1 & 2!! 1million out 10!! He did everything right that fans wanted an exceptional excessed my expectations!!
I was born in 1990 and couldn't agree more! Now if we could only get a Back to The Future movie done justice like this, it would be amazing!
@@JakeSulinjr no! Please no! There is no need at all for that. Plus, Robert Zemekis the writer/director said he would never release the rights for a remake or reboot.
@@brettbaratheon9776I'm aware of his wishes but it'll eventually happen. When it does, my hope is its done right.
@@JakeSulinjr huh? What a weird comment. Luckily, it will never be legally remade.
@@brettbaratheon9776 The sheer irony of your comment made my day.
This movie did Harold Ramis right.
I actually shed a tear.
As a child of the 80's, I loved this movie. I left the theatre so happy. It felt like it was made for me.
I agree. So many 80s references in this movie. I loved it.
Not a 80s kid. But I love this franchise. I have not seen the 1st three movies on big screen but this was always on our local t.v. channel once every 4 months when I was 5.
@@user-hw4st7br9a what franchise? was the 2016 movie your favorite?
@Caleb Jacobs love how Egon looked like a mix of his live action and cartoon counterparts
@@user-hw4st7br9a there are only 1st TWO movies. Ignore the 2016 one.
Just seen it for the first time. For
Someone who grew up on ghostbusters, What a emotional rollercoaster that was. Loved every moment of it.
one thing nobody points out is the stairs in the background of Egons workshop. They are reminiscent of the stairs in Dana's building.
Also I like to think that books being stacked in the house was all Egons doing to pass the time and learn how to move inanimate objects.
You mean after his ghost became fixed into the house? Very nice idea. I could see him doing that, while thinking, "If I ever see Peter again, I will bring up that library stack to him..."
Wow. One of the best movies I've seen since 1984. A perfectly written love letter to the original franchise. It hit every note. I laughed, I cried, jumpscares, the lot. I only wished it was longer. Just Incredible.
The movie was amazing. I'm so glad that we have the technology to have egon on the movie even though he's passed away. As a Gen X kid this made me feel like a kid again. I'm going to go see it again over break just so it makes enough money to warrant a sequel
We don’t just have the technology; but “We have the talent”
I cried the WHOLE movie, especially with the first driving scene with the Ecto-1. At the very beginning with egon in the chair, and pretty much the whole movie. I grew up during the 2010s and mid 2000s and watched the original 2 films over and over and over again, I waited for the longest time for the 3rd to come out and when they released the teaser a couple years ago I CRIED
I actually sat up in my seat and fist pumped the air when the kids lit up Ecto-1's siren for the first time.
I'll be honest from the trailer when it revealed that Ecto 1 was the license plate in the film knowing the OG GB's would inevitably return I was really hoping they'd arrive in the Ecto 1-B from GB2 and you'd see the 2 cars driving side by side.
That reunion was the most heartfelt experience ever! Even in death their friend was there side by side, fighting and watching over all of them. Sniff 😢. Honestly I can't wait for the next adventure in busting ghosts.
This film was awesome. I loved how they brought Harold Ramis back. Actually, the way that moment played out was pretty much how I thought Rise of Skywalker would play out, with the ghosts of Jedi past coming back and VISUALLY assisting Rey. C'est la vie
poor Harold Ramis never wanted this.....
@@StachMan what!? Yes he did. You 2016 knobs are always talking ish. He wanted to make the 3rd movie for years.
@@StachMan The Ramis family were part of the entire process and final approval of effects. The script had to have their blessing before they did production because they were using Harold’s likeness to use his character entwined so deeply in the plot.
It’s a love letter to Harold Ramis in the most tasteful sense possible. Well done.
As others have said, far better than I expected it to be. Like, this is how you do a soft reboot, that references the original (quite well in so many ways), that has girlboss and diverse characters without pandering, and is a familiar plot (I worried too similar to the first film) with logical and exciting twists on. So worth the watch and continuation of the franchise!
It’s not really a reboot, more of a sequel
2016 is a reboot
@@ThatOneNerd2 Gosh, I want the 2016 reboot to just disappear-
Omg I'm crying like a baby......it makes my heart so happy to see something from my childhood brought back and done with such love and detail! Thank you for pointing all the amazing stuff in this movie and making me remember when I was little!!! ❤️🎠
I think the Word that defines this movie is : Respect. Respect for the original movies, the originial characters, the original cast, and abowe all respect for the fans. Pluss it proved that you can have a female Ghostbuster, that kick ass. Egon's grandoughter is simly an awsome character, and perfectly acted.
Seeing Harold Ramis as Egon again brought on unexpected tears of joy. Even on a second viewing, I smile and tear up on the same scene.
You didn’t mention the Aztec death whistle that Podcast finds and uses in the film was actually created by Adam Savage at the request of Jason Reitman to be used in the film as an on-screen prop.
I went and saw this movie in the cinema i loved every second and almost cried at the end
This movie was so great!! I really loved it, all the jokes, all the call backs, just everything. I love how you don't even have to have seen the original to really understand the movie, you can go in not knowing anything about Ghostbusters and still enjoy it. Also, all the actors did so well, especially McKenna Grace who did a phenomenal job. I also found it a little funny how Finn Wolfhard dressed as a ghostbuster in Stranger Things but he's now officially in the canonical Ghost Busters universe as well. I feel like that could make some continuity errors but overall I just see it as silly accidental foreshadowing.
Just loved the looks on the GB's faces when Egon appeared beside them... it was bitter sweet!
I’m literally walking out of the theater and I loved this movie so much
Also Winston said, “I started this company with one employee” and I like to imagine that was Louis Tully lol
I really enjoyed the movie. I don’t think it could have been done any better. Loved how Egon helped the kids with the gear and the car.
I haven’t seen the original Ghostbusters movies in years yet that scene seeing Harold with the rest of the gang got me tearing up. Rest In Peace, Harold.
So, the movie states Shandor founded the town and designed it as a copy to the ancient map Egon had, that Gary nerded over and asked to keep. Gozer was a Sumerian god. Did Shandor name Summerville after Sumer and doubled the M so it blends right in with other common town names?
Nice catch
This is how you properly do a passing of the torch sequel/reboot. The other one felt like it was trying to take over by force while this one felt like it wanted to earn that right to continue the legacy. Love this movie and got teary eyed at the end battle
I think that they did an absolutely astoundingly amazing job bringing Egon back to us they knocked it way out of the park and I don't think they could have done any better it was absolutely perfect
My whole family loved this movie! Me, who loved 1 and 2, and my fiance and kids who just loved this one on its own merit. A great balance of fan service and a rebranding of a franchise. I found myself geeking out out loud so I'm glad we went to the drive in so I didn't ruin anyone else enjoyment.
BTW we all enjoyed the girl's dad jokes most of all. I'm a big fan of dad jokes.
I saw 'Afterlife' last night and I have to say it is the best movie I have seen in the last two years. Definitely one I will see again, and it will go on the shelf next to the original films. I think the cast was perfect and the writing was excellent. If this is the last film in the series, it would not bother me at all.
This was the first truly great ghostbusters since the original it was a great passing of the torch while respecting and honoring the original, ngl the scene where Egon's ghost appeared made tear up a lil
Look... I'm not going to lie... The ending actually put tears in my eyes... Great job and a great movie. It was Egon unfinish Business with Gozer.
The amount of details, little fine details this movie has you can talk about forever. It's amazing I loved this movie with every piece of me that filled my heart ever since I was a kid and have loved the Ghostbusters ever since. This movie was everything I ever wanted or needed and never knew until now.
I absolutely adore this movie, this was the most fun I’ve had in a theater since Endgame
I love this movie and seeing Egon's daughter and grandkids suit and help fight Gozer felt "Right" . Got goose bumps and emotional seeing the Ghost of egon fight with them .
I was so thrilled to see how they kept the integrity of the story canon in tact. I’m excited to see what the future looks like. I have a feeling that a sequel, while alluded, wasn’t planned until the studio/writers could gauge public reception.
thank you for covering Afterlife. I loved this movie so much, I almost slimed myself in the theater
My favorite part of the "Are you a god?" sequence in this movie, is that Ray actually stops to think about it suggesting his gut reaction is to say no.
For Harold god bless you, thank you for all those years of ghost busting
In the Egon's laboratory, you can see on the wall some colored scans of a brain, very similar to the images Egon obtained scanning the possessed Louis during the first movie.
The one thing this movie did so well was remind you just how bad the 2016 one was.
Also fun fact selenium also played a part in the movie Evolution, which kinda makes sense with it being a thru-line, as the script for it began as a GB3 treatment.
And featured Dan Aykroyd as the Governor of Arizona
The 2016 one was pretty foot probably better than GB 2, but this one does a better job connecting to the originals
@@calebweldon8102 GB2 > 2016
@@calebweldon8102 u good mate?
When Egon came in and the For Harold tribute appeared, it made me cry I swear
I seriously cannot believe how well this movie turned out. They make it look effortless. The whole thing just gives this warm, fuzzy feeling. It all ties back to the original and makes perfect sense and there's plenty of nods there for both hardcore fans as well as casual fans of the movies so everyone gets in on the fun. I hope it did well enough to get a sequel because I'd love to see everyone back busting ghosts in the future.
This movie really shocked me! It was way better than I anticipated and the end had me literally sobbing! Awesome tribute to Harold and overall a really great addition to Ghostbusters
Asa lifelong GB fan seeing Harold ramis make a cameo. Brought tears to my eyes
The spiritual form of gozer looks like Olivia Wilde and then I was like amazed that Olivia Wilde actually was gozer
Actually 3 different actresses in Afterlife.
@@CCFONESOL I love how Gozer learned from its mistakes and adapted to the "crossing the streams" the Ghostbusters used to send it back to the ethereal plane
With Cujo foreshadowing Terror Dogs, I think Child's Play was foreshadowing the Mini Pufts. Something cute and harmless that gets possessed and comes to life to cause chaos.
This movie wasn’t ACTUALLY perfect….but it was to me. I cried all throughout it.
What an amazing movie! We laughed and we cry. Made me feel like a kid again.
I’m glad you guys did a deep dive into this movie!! Keep up the great work.
Never seen this movie yet but the nostalgia of your review really brings me back to my childhood... Thanks NR ❤️❤️
To see all four of them come back together at the end love it
When the particles of Egon rise up to heaven at the very end and are passing the windmill, the outline of the original ghost from the Ghostbusters sign can be seen in the particles.
I love how they completely ignored the other movie with one line "there hasn't been a ghost sighting in thirty years" never in my entire life have I ever seen a franchise flat out ignore a sequel to this level. That movie was so bad they erased it from the entirety of the ghost busters continuity with a single phrase.
I dont think the 2016 Ghostbusters is ever a sequel. I think it's a reboot, thus another universe, probably another parallel universe. Proven how like murray and hudson's character are totally diff characters.
It was never canon the three OG ghostbusters literally play different characters in it lmao
When the "Who're you gonna call?" line came up, my theater all collectively said, "Ghostbusters!"
Seeing Egon at the end made me tear up as well. More so it made me remember my cousin who introduced me to Ghostbusters in the 80s; he passed away tragically 27 years ago. 😢
Now I have the Ghostbusters song stuck in my head
I really enjoyed this film start to finish. I hope there is a sequel done in the same fashion because I had no issues with this. I respected and liked the fact that you only see a cgi ghost of Harold/egon at the end with no dialogue, just expressions and a simple but beautiful "for harold" at the end.
What a great movie. Couldn’t hold back the tears at the end.
Just chills on the ending, nostalgia, both happy & sad. But seriously love the concept!
I was wondering if you guys were going to do this movie! So cool! Going to watch now!
That library opening scene for the original was terrifying as a kid
This movie made me cry, and that’s not something I can say happens often. It was really something to see them pay respect for the original, which was a huge part of my childhood
I must have had that eye popper toy when I was a kid, but lost the body of it when I was really young. I have no memory at all of the purple ghost but I played with that floating eyeball all the time. It's nice to know what the whole thing looked like!
this is one of the best sequels of all time. i either had a smile on my face or was crying for the entire movie.
It's funny how some movies can stay in your memory and touch your heart. I love the original and I really want to see this one.
This movie made me cry in theaters, one of the best reboots in recent years!
I immediately teared up when all 4 original Ghostbusters were back on the main screen together 😥
The magic of this movie took me right back. A wonderful tribute movie.
Paul Rudd was reading an Avengers Comic in the classroom too. Another 'small' nod to his other job 😀
When Egon appeared, it literally made me cry for 5 minutes
I have honestly been waiting for this video to come out and thank you guys for doing it.
I noticed one little plot hole in the movie and I had this thought: Where was ECTO-1A? Shouldn’t of that been what was being stored in the barn under that tarp?
You missed one cool easter egg: After Hugging his daughter for the last time, Egon spirit transform into some kind of particles and rise to the sky. But if you paid attention to those particles, you can see how it shapes the ghostbusters logo for a split second. 😉
I saw this film on Sunday and I loved it sooo much.
That nod to Adam Savage's Tested channel is because Savage served as a consultant on this movie. He put a couple of videos up recently where he's talking to Jason Reitman and touring the set, and Reitman mentions showing Savage the script and asking about some of the technical aspects of it.
I've seen this one twice now and I cried both times. So so good
The movie was a love letter to the fan base and the franchise itself.
Facts
2016 version required a beer drinking game. This one no beer required. Cried a little at the end. Excellent job Jason.
When Winston said he started his finance company with “one employee” I expected that one employee to be Lewis, Rick Moranis’s character who worked as an accountant in the first film. I guess that wasn’t the case. Would have have been a cool nod though, since I don’t remember anyone even mentioning Lewis in Afterlife.
He quit being an actor. Only Ryan Reynolds has been able to get him in front of a camera again
I really enjoyed this movie, I’m glad they did right by it. A lot of sequels that came out were horrible, and it would’ve been upsetting to see this happened to the ghostbusters. The female ghostbusters wasn’t my cup of tea.
What's incredible is that the VX company that did Egon first recreated the 1984 Spengler and overlaid it into the original movie and it was spot on. THEN the "aged" up that character/model for Afterlife.
That helmet that Podcast wore is a throw back to the one Doc Brown invented in Back to the Future. Egons appearance with the other ghost busters (as a ghost) is a throw back to the end of "The return of the Jedi" (With OBi Wan, Jedi and Anikin Skywalker as ghosts).
Why on earth do I love watching you so MUCH! GOD TELL ME WHY (YOU ARE AMZING ERIK)
This movie is so good. I cried like a baby the first time I watched it
The best line of the movie from Paul Rudd,” my hands really hurt from all the galloping”
“”Ohhhh, I don’t think that matters.” 🤣
I watched the movie literally minutes before watching this and I can’t believe the ending got me crying..
Just re-watched it for the third time. At the processing plant when they test the Proton pack, there is a sign in the background. Only the last letter "K" is visible. Presumably this stands for Kinetic Energy- the proton pack. After they fire the pack, the angle changes and you can see the processing plant, and the sign. The only letters visible on the sign are "P K" for psychokinetic energy - ghost energy. They go inside and meet Muncher. Nice subtle reference/camera work by Ivan Reitman.
Yeah, I thought that Podcast was the Ray for sure. This movie was the absolute best. Didn't try to just alt universe reboot the franchise but actually ADDED to the lore.
