All good points, great job! On the other hand, we're talking about a vehicle that hasn't be made for over 20 years. Unless you are looking at a fully restored XJ, you won't be buying perfection. The advice I would give, would be to not buy anything you wouldn't be comfortable either fixing yourself or paying someone else to do the work. Let's face it, the newest XJ you can buy is already 21 years old. Like you, XJ's are my Jeep of choice and I love my Bumble Jeep. But I've done a ton of work to get it where it is, and I have much more to do. At the end of the day, it's a Jeep thing. God bless and stay well.

The age of a vehicle doesn’t matter, what matters is if it’s been taken care of. I’ve seen cars in immaculate condition that were not restored but just well taken care of since day one.

Wish I saw this sooner. When I bought my 94 2dr I knew nothing about mechanics. It had a lot of junkyard parts and I'm still finding out it's problems, but it runs sound.

blowing the engine is one thing... if STEERING GOES OUT AND THE VEHICLE.... does what it wants and ppl are injured or worse... spending the next 15 to 25 in the BIG HOUSE for vehicular .... cuz steering or suspension went out . but it is the owners responsibility to CHECK ALL FASTENERS ON EVERYTHING... especially suspension and steering related.

Jeep stand for just empty every pocket. Xj's and basically any jeep older than 2010 is going to be a money pit. I got a 99 xj that's worth 3k and I've put about 4k into it. If you truly enjoy what it is and fix it up it will last you forever. Personally it depends on how bad the unibody rust is that would send me away. If it has minimal rust it is already better than most xj's. These xjs were expected 250k miles before they need major repairs but people are getting 400k+out of them. Literally their bodies rust out before they stop driving. Best of luck to those buying an xj. Trust me and project venture. If you need any more help there is an online forum called cherokee forum you can ask any question or look through info pages.
