I wanted to stop by and say thank you SO MUCH for this video! I started implementing these stratgies and I've been shortlisted more times THIS WEEK than the entire time I've been on the platform. The multiple self produced acapella demos I've posted have been getting more listens than my single professionally produced demo!

Some great advice here! Question about putting up 30 samples. Most of my recordings are from auditions from the site. Is it acceptable to use pieces of those without having explicit permission to do so?
Hmm that’s a great question. I would ask Voices as technically they own everything posted on their site. Or, since it would be easier then redoing all 30, you could just play dumb and put em up and ask for forgiveness if anyone says anything haha 🤷🏻♂️. Just make sure you don’t post ones where they specifically says not to, or that the info is confidential.
I saw another video from a Voices talent who actually suggested this very thing. He said every audition you do is building up your portfolio.
Hey, Jesse. Great info here. They're running a sale right now on premium. It's still not a small amount of money to me right now, but I'm seriously considering it. What do you mean when you say "DIY" demos? How is that different from any other demo one would do? Aren't your demos AND most of your paid work all DIY? (unless you're going to someone else's studio, of course... but that'd make no sense for me)
Demo’s are generally professionally worked on by someone who writes a good script for you based off your talent, sets up audio editing and visual stuff for the voiceover they have you do. Basically it’s industry pros who see your talents and assign you a script and make a good compilation of samples of what you recorded for them.
@@anthonytheva Yeah, I was just wondering why he keeps specifying "DIY" demos, instead of just "demos". I have a studio and have been doing pro audio for many years. So, I guess my demos are technically DIY, even though they're pro-level. I dunno. Thanks for the info and reply. I'm probably just overanalyzing.

I really got a deep voice i would like to get into this. How much money can i make?
Words to live by too. My challenge is when I post an audition, its not every time that they will listen to it even if its a 100% match. Which leads me to believe something you said as well, that some buyers are placing casting calls in other places as wrll and if they choose someone off another platform, they just come back and cancel the job on VDC or they just let it go and don't close it out.

Hi Jesse, my question: Is it possible to start if you are a full-time world traveler, sometimes living in a van or apartment? The question is, what would be the minimum but good quality tools for a traveler with less luggage? I would start from the very beginning. For example, is there any chance to start just with your phone or a small mic with less tools? I am totally confused with watching so many videos with so many different information and I am a bit lost even I didn´t start. Thanks a lot 🙏
Hey this question couldn’t be answered in a text response, and it all depends on many many factors. Anything is possible, but I would recommend start when you are planted in one place for a few months so you can concentrate on getting momentum. Check the links in my description, there is a gear guide and a free training video that will give you a better idea of what you need and some direction.

@@soulhealingwithKristi-ix9ls you can do this forever! There is no age limit. The cool thing about VO is that each age range only competes against its own age range generally - but you can definitely stretch and compete in younger or older categories if you choose, even if they they say in the description they’re looking for younger/older than you because you may surprise them, stand out and win the job. You don’t try to sound younger or older, you just do you. I win jobs all the time where they say they wanted younger, older, different accent - just being me. My philosophy is the only reason they didn’t describe me, is because they don’t know who I am yet ;)

Edge studios script library, you can use chatGPT, Voices.com has a big library- or go to ispot tv and watch commercials and then transcribe them.

Quick Q: when you say 'single compilation' do you mean single sample (e.g. a short sample read that could go into a compilation) OR (A compilation of single/ matching styled reads.
My coach said I'd need 3 main demos (60 - 90 sec long -- 1x narration compilation// 1x commercial compilation// 1x characters)
[My coach wasn't great, so I'm questioning much of what she told me]

My dude! These camera clicks are killing me! I'm listening to your video on studio headphones and I just gotta say, please done it down for the aspiring audio engineers listening! But seriously, thank you for the advice. I have been in the industry for about a year and a half and have always been told to avoid Voices because it's a huge waste of money.

Correcting the Correction of the Paurush the Editor, Great attempt but there are wayyy more countries than that ins North America the Carribean alone which is in the sector of North American Countries alone have 5+ Countries, that I can think of from the top of my head as a Carribeaner myself (I'm Puerto Rican & Dominican) You almost nailed it lol Thanks for trying though 🙏🏾💪🏾🙌🏾

Hey Jesse, when you say “get auditions” do you mean the emails that they send when a new job is posted, or is there a direct audition invite that comes in?
Its funny that your Sennheiser 416 shown is a Synco Mic D2. I have that mic. VERY nice mic and another VO and I did a side-by-side test between his 416 and the D2, and if you didn't know the difference (or didn't know how to read a spectrogram), you could very well say its a 416 and noone would know the difference. The D2 is very slightly brighter and has a very slightly less bottom end. Save the $$$$ get a D2 for around $170.

One thing I might suggest that I am playing with for my YT channel is a dynamic mic. The SM7B is dynamic IIRC. You mentioned a noise issue wth that. My new dynamic mic has some weird EMF issue, but that's not the point. Point is as per a radio DJ friend of mine, since Dyns are geared toward closer proximity, they can tone out most ambient noises -- AKA, hotel room noises. Just sayn'. I take it, you've traveled with the SM7B?

@@63gmac I actually never do voiceover with the smb because of the noise issue, it’s just an expensive UA-cam and zoom mic for me haha. I travel with the 416 but always nervous it’ll get wrecked in transport or stolen but if I can get a cheaper version that gets me most of the way there for travel that would be ideal!
@@63gmac why would I take offence? I didn’t edit the video - call him out as much as you like; the only thing I care about is getting you all important information and if anyone has time to nitpick unimportant details of the edits go nuts haha, it doesn’t bug me
