    You legend! Thanks for the post mate. You just saved me a bundle of cash. I did a simple continuity test with a $20 circuit tester on each of the thermostats and found the dead one in a flash. With your tips, I then bypassed that sucker and happy days! It all came to life. If you were here - I woulda kissed ya! (Not really!) A new one is now on order. Isn't it just tops to be able to 100% diagnose the root cause of a fault. Love it. Many thanks for sharing.

    Can't thank you enough for putting this video up. Trying to fix this problem for months and replaced just about every part after having several service technicians look at it and still wouldn't work. Then I came across your video with the same problem, did the fix and bugger me it works!!! Now to order a new thermostat. Thanks once again 👍Tom.

      Glad it helped. Now the messy bit replacing the thermostat. Don't forget to take photos before you start so it all goes back in the correct position 😉

    Just used this to diagnose fault on my swift HWS, confirmed faulty thermostat, new one on order for $70, better than the $1000 for new HWS. So glad I found this tutorial

    Thanks mate, just pulled up for the first night of a 5 week trip and wouldn’t light. In Brisbane in a week so I’ll replace the thermostats there. My wife is very happy now. Cheers, Cambo. P.S. don’t leave the heater running after bypassing the thermostat, it will endlessly boil.

    Make sure the 240 volt ac is disconnected before touching wiring on thermostats, there is an automatic and a manual thermostat on both the gas and the 240, if you are confident enough the gas and 240 v thermostats are interchangeable . The manual thermos are 75 degree c and automatic are 65 degree c.

      Yeh good point, never considered that someone might be on 240 when they gave this a go. Thanks.

      Swift actually sent me one free of charge as mine was just out of warranty. It is a fairly easy repair, just make sure you take photos of the wiring before you dismantle it so everything goes back as it should. Also, the thermostats are actually only held in place by a grease type substance so can slide out of position very easily. Good luck !

    Awesome info mate! Mine was working off grid turn off to change tanks and wouldn’t reignite! You saved cold showers for the misses which would’ve been disastrous! Just asking did you replace your swift thermostat? Guessing it’s the plastic board we bypassed on? 👍🏻

      Thanks for the feedback,
      Yes I did replace it. Just the small 1cm round part you removed the wires from. You need to replace asap. I got one from swift but I think most agents would stock them. Make sure you take photos as you dismantle so everything goes back as it should 😀

    You have not mentioned the Anode replacement which is also a vital part of the maintenance

    • @plainandsimpletravels
      @plainandsimpletravels  2 роки тому +2

      Correct, unless you have a stainless tank system like this one that does not have an anode.

    • @geoffhampton2179
      @geoffhampton2179 2 роки тому

      I have a Stainless Steel tank and have just bought an Anode for it so not sure what you are telling me?

    • @plainandsimpletravels
      @plainandsimpletravels  2 роки тому +2

      I am guessing you do not have a swift Gehw model system then, so anything in the video is not applicable to yours. The swift does not have a sacrificial anode only a sacrificial tube which protects against bacterial attack IF you use bore water for a long period of time, which we don’t.

    • @keithmorley2816
      @keithmorley2816 Рік тому +1

      @@plainandsimpletravels They still recommend that you check it periodically. I am currently installing a GEHW, and it is in the owner's manual. I know that the sacrificial anode is on the cold water inlet, & am now trying to find out exactly how to check/replace it (be prepared like a good scout). I'm thinking of carrying a full maintenance spares kit, so I don't get caught short in the middle of nowhere.
