  • We somehow decided to start the cabin build on what must of been the hottest day of 2024!
Welcome to part 4 of the summer house log cabin building project.
The large double cabin bought from Dunster House, aptly called The Terminator, arrived at my friends house a week prior to our build date, and had been luckily taken to the back garden ready for us to start. We didn't get quite as far as we anticipated as, a, it was bloody hot, and b, there were more pieces of wood for this cabin than we thought. It was a very large size as my friend had bought the add on side extension as he wanted it to go right across the back of his garden. A lovely size but a bit more work! A few days more when we have time and it'll hopefully be near completion. I'll be back then with the camera so please like and subscribe for more!

The reply to my emails regarding the correct fitting of the windows and door frame is below.
    Thank you for your email.
The only part that requires to be screwed into is the frame as per the below.
This allows for natural movement of the timbers.
On our E9 cabins we still supply a SMB bracket but these are not required for the E10.
As you have the latest E10 model of log cabin and we have removed the SMB brackets from the design so they are not required for your build.
    Kind regards
    Amelia

Definitely. I've been busy and the young lad helping has done most of it already. It's looking really good. I'll try and get round there with my camera soon. Cheers.

Hi John, been waiting so long for an update on your friends large log cabin, I've been thinking about one for a little while and its good to see someone else go through the same process, I look forward to any more updates, always good to see how some else does things, its looking good.

Hiya mate. It's coming along nicely. It's a large cabin so plenty of wood and going together well. Rain stopped the job for a bit. I think the young lad doing the roof as I'm away so next video the roof will probably be done. Shame cos i wanted to film it. Personally I'd use bigger floor timbers or support on plastic shed base squares but it's not up to me. It's the 45mm thick timber so nice and solid though. Thanks for the comment.

I have a duster house cabin and no way would I use that company again. Joinery skills are not up to standard. Good luck with your cabin.

Looking ok so far but may need a few tweaks here and there. But so far, so good. Thank you for watching. I'm intrigued to know what problems you had? And if they were resolved and how long ago did this happen?

@@Life_of_John I bought mine about 4 years ago. Joinery on doors and windows very poor, door stops cut short, leaking in corners,(resolved with waterproofing solution.) Timber not very good quality, just no standards . Customer service at the time were not great. I would build my own next time.

So far it's looking good. The window pre built casements are excellent. I actually bought all my windows for my house from them years ago, and bought another lot for another property. Of course they are upvc. Anyway, time will tell. Thank you.
