What I don’t like is the fact that Toyota took the LC away; then brings this version back and presents it like they’re doing us a favor, when in reality the 300 (full size) already existed. Just feels like this area of the world got gypped. The GX on the other hand is not labeled as an LC and therefore doesn’t carry the cache that exists with the LC. That is one of the reasons why I feel that the GX is more honest. (I’ve put a deposit on the GX)
Finally, you are the first one go understand what Toyota brings to North America !! Thanks for that detailed review . I am like you, the simpler the better and hybrid is not bringing that on the table. And yes I miss the 300 série here !! THANKS !!!
The Twinturbo V6 in the LC 300 Series is incredible! To have THAT very engine tuned down to output a bit less power, put in the lighter mid-sized GX 550 is going to be even more reliable than the 300 Series! Unlike the Tundra and Sequoia which are all built in the west, the GX 550 will be built to the highest quality standards at the same Japanese Tahara plant (and one other) that the LC 300 Series is built in! There will be no better new midsized than the GX 550! There is excellent engineering in the LC 250 and no doubt it will be great. However, it is still watered down. Especially for the American market.
Won't be able to unsee the jeep compass tail lights now...thanks dude..haha. Great video, looking forward to see how the 4Runner fits into the lineup. Currently running a 2015 4Runner and I'm ready to upgrade from my underpowered 14 mpg hog. Been a stellar vehicle thus far though
Haha I know I’m sorry. It’s burned into my brain. Thanks for the kind words! I had a 2017 Tacoma and it was really great other than a bit underpowered and thirsty for fuel, similar to your 4Runner. Excited to see the real world numbers on this LC - could be fantastic upgrade
Great video. You surface so many excellent points. I'm where you are as I'm on a waiting list for the GX 550 Overtrail. I do like the 2024 Land Cruiser Base 1958 alot too. Its good to have choices. Like you, I plan to keep my next vehicle for 10 years. I'm hoping the GX 550 has traditional Lexus reliability realizing the twin turbos add extra parts.
Big misses on the new "Land Cruiser" in that it is significantly neutered in functionality... removal of KDSS/EKDSS, removal of 3rd-row option (despite having it in other markets), and forcing a hybrid are not good moves for functionality/longevity... this is a pretty transparent attempt to capitalize on the Land Cruiser brand but without using the more expensive technologies that actually are what sets the Land Cruiser apart. They are bragging that the new Land Cruiser has a front swaybar disconnect... great, so you removed KDSS/EKDSS (front/rear swaybar disconnect), and are bragging about the reduction in capability? Great work Toyota! You will sell tons of them to people who don't realize it isn't an actual "Land Cruiser".
I think the point was to appeal to more people (lowering price). They had to cut cost somewhere cause if they actually made it to the standard it should’ve been in the first place, the 300 series would make more sense to bring it here. This new LC feels very much pared down and perhaps targeted for ppl to modify - who knows tho?
@@ccabz08 That's all fine - they could still appeal to more people by offering the 3rd-row option (which they are in other markets) and just upcharge for that.
@@t3h8ar0n Yea I really was hoping they'd at least have that as an option; These 1st edition models will more than likely hit close to the old 200 series price (after dealer markups?), which makes it feel like Toyota robbing the NA market (again).
The GX550's lack of buttons for HVAC controls and inflated pricetag just means you might as well buy a premium LX600 instead. If you want the top trim GX you can just drop another 8-10 grand and buy the LX instead.
I really prefer the look of the GX550 The only thing I like better about the Land Cruiser is the four-cylinder turbo hybrid but the GX has a 8000 lb tow rating too so it's kind of a wash because I want the tow rating to be able to pull an offshore boat. I really like the two tone on the overtrail I'm just wondering with the final cost is going to be? People are estimating 80 to 82,000 for the overtrail Plus. I would opt for the over trail plus because it has the parking assist which my wife definitely needs. Lol but I do overall like the new Land Cruiser I just like the GX550 better depending on how much price difference is I'll probably go with the GX550. Thank you 👍

Suppose one thing to note is it is about 4inches or so shorter than it’s brother gx550
Another great point. I like the size of the gx550.. I always seem to be running out of trunk room with my 460!

Awesome video! Can't wait for future GX 550 or LC 250 content! ;)
Thank you so much!

We all wanted the new 🤣.

Very good points - didn’t even get into suspension setup here.

The battery under the floor of the LC causes a reduction in cargo space, which is a big con for me. GX 550 doesn't have this problem.
Agree with you on the interior. I’m so tired of all black! Plus the LC has real buttons!
LX 600 base model would / is basically the 300 series LC. For once was $89K 🤷🏿♂️ even has the option to put the 18" wheel package on it.
Absolutely correct. Bummer is you don’t get the trick differential unless you go with the F sport for $107k 😑
@@NorthoftheWallGarage agreed! They can't give us everything. It'll be too much of the right thing to do! 😂 🤣 😂 😆

I really like the Landcruiser but bummed they didn’t give it a 3rd row. Big family need 3 rows.
GX will be offered with 3rd row in non-overtrail configuration!
Lc 250 max cargo 60 kg otherwise you will damage battery this biggest downfall on lc250
It looks like a glorified Bronco lol
Your current GX460 is better than both by far.
I have a 2018 GX460 - love it and agree with your comment. Now has 35K mi and it's the one I plan to keep for 10 yrs.
