    1983 was one of the greatest ever. I must admit the rampant unreliability of the era gave us interesting races. Also, no safety car bunching of the field, no 'free' pit stops, just press on regardless.

      And you can't really fault the teams for working hard to eliminate mechanical unreliability, but it did spice up so many races when a car suddenly breaking down just before the end was not only possible but actually quite common.

      Safetycars are now so over used. They have their purpose, but people nowadays just can't seem to except some risks in racing anymore...

      Motor racing by it's very nature will never be safe. If the safety features we have now in 2024 were in place years ago there would be less fatalities in motor racing.
