Greetings from California. Thank you Gwenyn!! Will try it here with our local 90-degree bolt anchors (our gate is lightweight). You gave me a ton of courage :)
glad to hear it 😊
Thank you! I need to fix a gate for my father-in-law and this really helped! Love to hear you talk. My mother's Dad was from Wales.
Thanks Elisa 😊
Thank you my wrought iron gate broke! This video was a great help! I learned I don't have a hammer drill but only a battery compact drill! I can do this!
Yes you can!! 😄👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks Gwenyn for taking the time to create and post his video, much appreciated. I am about to start the same job and this has been very helpful., Greetings from New Zealand
Glad it was helpful! And thanks for taking the time to comment!! in a big fan of New Zealand!! 😊
How nice that I found you just when I have to rebuild a wooden gate. I've decided to sue masonry for the posts, so this is perfect. Good day to you!
No problem 😊 glad you found it useful 👍🏻
Thought it was going to be rubbish, but turned out to be brilliant. Lots of little pointers to do a perfect job thanks.
Thanks Chris! Glad you found it useful 😊👍🏻
Hi Gwenyn, great for my 'first' diy gate fence project. I can see you have an extra hardware the 'eye bolt' sits on hinges for height adjustment and the long end through the gate post, . Awesome.
Hi Ralph,
Glad you found the video useful 😊👍🏻 thanks for the comment, much appreciated
Thanks for making this video Gwenyn. I've got three gates to fix and this has been very helpful.
No problem 😊 glad you found it useful
Great video - interesting and informative. You are clearly getting some great weather in Wales. Hope you and the family are keeping safe and, again, thank you for feeding the nation in these difficult times.
Thanks 😊 yes we have had some beautiful days! So nice to feel the sun again!
And to you...stay safe! 😊
Gwenyn Gruffydd great to see your subscribers numbers improve, more people getting a insight into farming, country living and beekeeping. I have an 80 year old mother and I’ve told her of your website - something to help take her mind off the anxiety she and most old people are feeling.
Thanks 😊 absolutely so much worry at the moment. The news is getting everyone down. Glad this channel is helping. That means a lot to me 😊
Much appreciate the tutorial man, very succinct and thorough. Good job.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Good man, really enjoyed it, am hanging four gates at the front of the house and I wasn't sure which bolt to do first, also the tip about levelling the top bolt with the bottom bolt is the business, my neighbour's bolts are not level and it looks brutal.
Glad you found the video useful 😊👍🏻
Great video and even cooler accent. Thanks for the tips.
Glad you liked it!
I like the choice of jazz for your cuts
Thank you 😊
Nice quick and to the point 🥂👏👏👏
Thank you 😊👍🏻
Don't know about you but my little man could still get out through that gap at the bottom haha. Either way, great video, I'll be using this method when I hang my gate tomorrow.
Haha!! I bet mine are starting to try and climb it now!!
Unfortunately that gate had to be high due to the slope in front of it that it needs to reach over.
Good luck with your gate 😊👍🏻
Great job!
Thanks
Thanks
Wonderful, love the English accent.
This is a Welsh accent 😄🏴
Good job, really helpful to help me avoiding yet another DIY cock up
No problem 😊 hope you hang the gate perfectly 👍🏻👍🏻😊
Hi Gwenyn, great video mate. Those bolts you used, would they be suitable to attach an iron gate post and gate to a brick wall. If so, I only need a few 8mm x 80mm, please could you put a link if you know where I could get some. Many thanks
Thanks David,
Best thing to do if you only need a few is go down b&q, screwfix or your local builders merchant they will have them
Thanks for the video never installed one on concrtete wall so it was very helpfull.....It would be little better if the top hinge pin its facing down opposite way than bottom one so it will never come off if pulled up
Yes that’s true you can hang one upside down. Good for roadside gates where the opportunist thief can be a problem. Most hangers come with a hole drilled into them so you can put a pin in it to stop the gate from lifting.
Glad you found the video useful 😊
Thank you
😊
I've only just found your channel and I'm absolutely loving catching up! Excellent videos. I was wondering what size are the Thunderbolts you use in this video and would you ever consider doing a video on different kind of fixings and bits commonly used around the farm??? I live on an island so I have to try and order everything online and wait for it to arrive to discover they aren't right! Cheers!
Hi!
Really pleased your enjoying the channel 😊
They are m10 and they are either 90mm or 100mm long.
That’s a good idea and I may well do that! Thanks for the idea 💡 😊
I bet that a real pain!? What island do you live on?
@@gwenyngruffydd Thanks for that! I'm on the Island of Coll in the inner Hebrides so it is a pain getting stuff here. If anything simple breaks it can put off a job for days. Like the other day I had the subsoiler on and broke a shear bolt, none in the tool box on the tractor, went back to the shed... none there either! On the phone to the 'local' agri merchant and just jumping on the quad now to go to the ferry to get them from the delivery van! They're 10.9 strengthened steel so any 8.8s I had would have snapped too easily.
I call it the sacrifice of living in paradise haha. Cheers again.
You can’t have it all!! You pay to live in such a beautiful spot!! 😁😂
Hope your keeping safe in all of this 😊
Thanks for the video Gwenyn, ive already got a big gate post in which is 6 x 6, its concreted in but not as deep as i wanted due to pipes etc, so need a l-shape bracket to give extra strength to my post, im struggling to find any anywhere, do you recommend or know of any & with the type of screws sizes youre using, any help much appreciated thanks mate, Paul ,ps its a stone wall its going into:)
Hi Paul,
Your probably best visiting a welder and get one specially made. A steel shed cleat may do it perfectly. Google steel cleat.
I would use a thunderbolt or a specific concrete screw.
Could I attach a 12ft field gate to the brick wall of my house or would it be too heavy?
Should be ok. All depends on how thick the brick work is. If it’s over 4” then you’ll be fine.
I would use hangers that has a place for 4 screws instead of 2. Will be much stronger. 😊💪🏻
1.12.21 @ 0915 PST RE: time mark 7:27 How thick is the brick you will be drilling into your wall? I have a typical masonary block wall. Msmts inches :1 block : L15.75 " H 7.5" W 5.5" wall thickness is 1.25 inches. Mine appears ,from probing ,there is concrete inside.
The gate's slide bolt latch has eroded the masonary where it slides in and out for open closing. Could be from 20 years of use and many winds that rattles the gate. Id think one could epoxy a snug metal sleeve into the masonary block to prevent the bolt's constant erosion . Or ,I could add a 6 ft or so 2x4 and bolt it vertically up the masonary wall where slide bolt will will be stabilized by the 2x4 ? Any suggestions with this?
Hi, That wall had 4 inch concrete blocks in it that's been plastered over.
Epoxy would work that stuff goes off like steel! Used it a few times over the years. The 2x4 would work out best no doubt plenty more stability and anchoring points but may not look the best as one side with have wood and not the other.
I think I personally would be tempted with the epoxy and maybe use a slightly thicker bolt so that it catches a little bit of the wall too.
what bolts did you use please?expanding or plugged?
Saw thunderbolts, vgood if thats what their officially called
Their called thunderbolts
i feel more confident already
😊👍🏻
what are the sizes of the drill bit as compared to the bolt diameters?
It normally says on top of the bolt. If. Not it will say on the box.
How did you get a gate of the exact width required? Is it custom made?
You can buy gates by the foot. Micro adjust the difference on the eyes. 😊👍🏻
Where did you get those hinges? Can you add a link?
Here you go 😊👍🏻
