    I'm going to look at some places tonight. My great grandfather had a place on the Mississippi. A portage from ages ago. A spot where my dad plowed up pottery a long time ago.

    I've looked at this site after watching your video. Thanks for this VERY useful information.found a gold wedding band at old homestead that is no longer there farmer told me he has lived in area since 1947 and never remembered a house being there inside wedding band was initials E.F on 1929 map I found the house which sat on 120 acres at that time land was owned by Edwin Francis , thanks for helping put puzzle together. This is the most helpful tool for finding old homesites in this highly farmed area of Central Illinois it also will help me track down the owners of land with old schoolhouses on their land. . I've been detecting for 4 years now and this has to be best advice I've gotten since doing this thanks a lot and keep up the great videos really enjoy watching them. Good luck!!!!!!!'👍🇺🇸

      Glad it helped .. I have about 8 home sites pinned down and a few school houses , but still haven't got the chance to get permissions yet . now they are starting to plant in some fields here . I have one school site that I showed in the video that I have permission for but but its in the woods and its grown over now ! I might check it out this weekend , Thanks for reminding me !!

      +hiluxyota I've also learned another little trick to help locate exact location of old homesites right after the farmer runs a disc through field drive down road on a sunny day the field will glisten where there's broken glass and I also look for where the old culverts leading into fields give it a try it has helped me pinpoint exact spot where house stood.

      unfortunately the sites that I located are deep down into the fields far away from the roads , but I can see where that would work on certain sites or fields that I haven't researched ..I was down in central Ilinois door knocking old houses with a couple friends on Saturday ..

      I actually got permission for the old school site , no coins were found but my friend got an old 14k wedding band . we dug a lot of deep modern trash which told us the ground was bulldozed sometime in the past 20 years

    This is good information for me to get started finding old homes to detect. Any advice on getting permissions. I have hit a major road block. Now with covid even more so. Ty in advance. Really like you videos. I also get in the water with my scoop looking for rings and just great finds. It's difficult to judge where to place the scoop in order to find the target. Thanks again. +ChicagoDigger Just play around with it , sometimes if the 1800's plat don't give you an option to overlay , then try the next years up like 1900 , a lot of times it will give you the option for other years

    Holy crap I've been looking for ways to locate sites in Illinois! I'm over in Peoria county and have found a few 2500 year old Native American sites. Though we can't actually dig the sites, it's still amazing to just see the artifacts. I generally report any finds to the state archaeological department so they can be preserved.

    • @hiluxyota7200

    • @hiluxyota7200
      @hiluxyota7200  6 років тому +1

      You can either go to the surrounding farm house and ask , usually if they don't own the land , they very well might know the owner . or the best way is to look up the county assessor. they will have all records public, and information on how many times it was sold and the names of the owner or owners ..Yes i regularly will give the land owner some old coins that i have found , specially if i want to return to a place..

    • @hiluxyota7200
      @hiluxyota7200  7 років тому +1

      I just use the historic map works on my phone , I also used historic aerials , but those only go back to the mid or late 1930's.and I mostly look for the older coins from the early to mid 1800's so I rarely use historic aerials ..

    I can't overlay any maps of the area I'm looking to hunt. So now I don't know how to go about researching the area. Rivers were different back then

    • @hiluxyota7200
      @hiluxyota7200  6 років тому

      sometimes certain years don't have the overlay option..so what I do is check the following years up until I find an option to overlay. for instance theres one town that has a plat in 1874 but it didn't have the overlay option , so I searched up until I found one in the year 1900. You have to buy the premium to actually get all the overlay options I had learned but yes creeks and rivers do change. since then but the maps put you pretty close to where the old home sites or schools or fairgrounds were

    My opinion, talk more and get rid of the music. Dont just show a coin, give some dialogue and explain what we are looking at.
