  • This next upload contains a band I've been hoping to see for some time, after years of missing them because of work, canceled shows due to members contracting Covid, or some other unfortunate bullshit. I was beyond excited that I would finally get to see Boston's Lifeless Dark, a band that does perfectly executed Death Thrash the Crusty way. They formed sometime around 2016-2017 with their sole release "Who Will Be The Next Victims?" having dropped in 2018 to an overwhelmingly positive response. It was recorded at both the Pain Cave and Side Two, both prolific recording studios run by two of Lifeless Dark's own members, and mastered by guitarist/bassist Will Killingsworth who was in Orchid, Ampere, and Vaccine to name a few.
Besides having played in a slew of sick bands, Will also runs the Clean Plate Records label and Dead Air Studios, has the honor of being one of the Punks to make it onto Metal Archives, and recently worked with one of my favorite newer Death Metal bands Anthropophagus, whom I've uploaded to this channel last year. Check out their new full length "Abuse of a Corpse" (which came out April 7th, 2023, a little over a week ago as of the posting of this video) and check out Will's resume in terms of both studio work for other bands, as well as his own musical projects (it's all pretty sweet).

I felt that was worth the digression, but back to Lifeless Dark who played a perfect set that covered the demo, and also featured some unrecorded material I hope comes out some time soon. They're a band that takes a lot of their cues from the Crust Metal of Sacrilege, Hellbastard, After The Bombs, maybe a little Bolt Thrower, and other Punk/Metal influences (namely Detente). Basically a lot of Stenchcore's old guard from the UK, where the genre emerged from alongside Grindcore (a different take on Metal meets Punk/HC), brought to you by a young Napalm Death and Carcass. Lifeless Dark plays a Stenchcore that's a bit more old school than day some of these Portland Crust bands like Hellshock or Decomp, which is also sick but more prevalent these days compared to something that's a bit more distinctively UK inspired. They do so without coming off as a tribute band or someone who really desperately wants to be the 21st century Hellbastard.
One of the reasons I was hype to finally see Lifeless Dark was that they feature one of my favorite guitarists; Chris Corry of Mind Eraser, a shit ton of other sick bands, owner of Painkiller Records, and also the Pain Cave, the recording studio where most of his own stuff gets recorded. Including "Who Will be the Next Victims?" which was also partially recorded at Side Two, owned and run by Lifeless Dark drummer Ryan Abbott. It's no wonder the production on that demo came out great. It was great to see Chris shred it up with yet another sick project of his, after seeing Mind Eraser, No Tolerance, Soul Swallower, and a few others.
Some people like Charlie Christian, Dave Navarro, Andreas Segovia, Jimi Hendrix or Van Halen, all of whom I enjoy but my Van Halen is CC from Mind Eraser. He and DFJ (Dance Floor Justin, also of Mind Eraser, and a million other bands) were previously a part of another Trash Metal/Punk band called Death Evocation, who were sick as fuck, and sounded like a Punk Slayer. I never got to see that unfortunately, but thankfully I live in a time where Lifeless Dark is playing out more often to make up for that.
They're an incredibly talented band and if you agree, support the hell out of Lifeless Dark.
Current and former members of Innocent, Option, Devil's Dare, Stone Dagger, Mind Eraser, Death Evocation, Magic Circle, Mentally Challenged, No Tolerance, Prisoner Abuse, Put to Death, Soul Swallower, World War 4, Aggression Pact, Born In Hell, Deth Warr, Invasion, Obliteration, Open Your Eyes, Righteous Jams, Step Forward, Stop And Think, Blank Stare, Bloody Gears, Chain Rank, Bygone, Combined Effort, Confines, Exit Order, Failures, Green Beret, Innocent, Keep Laughing, Permaculture, Positive Reinforcement, Social Circkle, St. Ripper, Animal Mother, and maybe even more.
