Concerning clones: Please do not forget that the vast majority of parkgoers does not visit every 6-flag park. So, having one clone in their "homepark" is perfectly fine for all that aren't travelling the world to visit parks.

Pretty much this. And tbh I like riding the various Batman and 4D Free Spin clones and debating if one is better than the others. For example, I actually enjoyed Goliath at Fiesta more than any other Batman clone. Just felt more intense.

It makes sense from a business perspective. They're tried and tested rides that are nearly guaranteed to be successful and reliable.
They probably also want to maintain a cohesive brand image and offer similar experiences in each park, kinda like how a you can go to basically any McDonald's and get a familiar experience.

Most people are unlikely to even know much less care when a theme park on the other side of the country gets a new ride. They’ll most likely only get to ride it if it’s near them. So why not clone a few?

thank you!!!! some coaster enthusiasts don’t realize that not everyone can afford to travel to parks across the country. by cloning, six flags saves money and park goers don’t have to travel too far to ride a certain attraction. yes, six flags isn’t the best, but honestly by providing accessible and affordable options, more and more people can appreciate coasters and escape from their everyday lives, which is really the core value and purpose of all roller coasters.

Yea and people always ask “HoW iS SIx FLAgS STilL rUnnIng”

Six flags may have cloned rides, but that’s ok in my opinion, because as you said, the clones are usually fun, but also, in my opinion, the GP don’t care that it’s cloned. It’s a new ride at their home park, which draws in more guests

How many parks have Intamin Impulse coasters? Now how many of them are at Cedar Fair parks? Are they fun? Yes. Are they unique? Unless you count Wicked Twister with its twin 200+ foot spirals, no. They're still uncommon and rare enough that they are a treat to ride. And as for the 4D Free-Flyers, I rode on one of the Joker-themed ones at SFGAm, they're amazing little rides. I'd consider it in one of my favorite new ride designs up there with hybrids and launched coasters. It was easily one of the best rides I had all summer because it was fun. Coasters are supposed to be fun. Did everyone forget coasters should be fun?
How many parks have retracked hybrids? Steel Vengeance, the current darling of thoosies everywhere, is a retracked hybrid coaster. It's not even the first of its kind, and nobody thinks it sucks. Quite the opposite. Everyone lines up to suck its dick, and for good reason - it's a great ride. But is it really better than something like Mystic Timbers or Twisted Cyclone? No, because in the end it is STILL just a retracked woodie that happens to have broken a lot of records and happens to be a really really fun, really damn good ride. Is it better than Goliath at SFGAm? No, because that coaster does certain things differently; hell I think it was a smoother ride than SteVe. This complaint is like saying "It's popular, so it sucks."

My annoyance is the mixing of ride names between SF parks. Depending on the park, Batman might be Goliath. Joker might be Batman. Don't even get me started on the permutations of Superman. Wonder Woman and Harley Quinn are also having multiple personalities. Goliath and Viper can each be one of many different rides. It's like Six Flags draws new ride names out of a hat, but someone has loaded the hat with Batman, Joker, Superman, Goliath, Viper, etc.
You need a secret decoder ring or a Rosetta Stone just to translate ride names between parks. I'd love to see a table that lists each park and its respective name for various rides. Heck, SF could sell a coaster translation T-shirt with a matrix on the back. Park names in the left column and industry names (ex. Inverted Coaster) across the top row. Each cell would then have the park's name for that ride at that park.

They are incredibly lazy, and I've heard (I don't know if its true) that they hate having wooden coasters because they don't like doing constant work on them, which would make sense because they tend to get lazy with just about every thing. The 2 six flags parks I've been to, the ride ops were horrible. Maybe just my personal experiences but i'm not a huge fan.

Every coaster besides Green Lantern was pumping out trains. Jersey Devil's moving platform loading system was perfectly coordinated. The main operator on Superman kept saying this over the intercom: "We're trying to get a train out every 45 second. This is incredibly difficult so please follow all of our instructions to keep the line moving." I really loved that kind of informative transparency.

2:46 Funnily enough, I discovered this when playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, after noticing that Great Adventure's Medusa had the exact same design as Magic Mountain's Scream. It called into question Six Flag's sense of originality, but otherwise never really bothered me: if the design is good enough, why NOT reuse it so that other regions can enjoy that same experience? I wouldn't want a NorCal resident to travel hours to ride Scream or Batman, when they could just ride Medusa and Batman in their own local park. Furthermore, it's a more common practice than Six Flags dissenters would have you believe, as seen from the numerous Wild Mouses and Boomerangs across various theme parks. Hell, the Magic Kingdom is more or less an entire AMUSEMENT PARK that's been cloned from Disneyland.

Cedar fair has really stepped up the food game in past three years and Disney, Seaworld, and universal blow both of them out of the water. I would also disagree with the operations. I’ve never seen any of the sixflags parks I’ve been to were running at full capacity while cedar fair and Seaworld always have the max capacity then can if the ride allows, this of course doesn’t include maintenance THAT is actually being done rather than just letting the rides trains sit. My issue with six flags theming isn't about the rides but rather the clash between consistently themed rides and inconsistently themed parks. They have so much D.C. comics stuff for the rides but not all of them, which is just off to me. The overall signage also just randomly switches from D.C. to some general theme. The same thing applies to the food and other stores where a D.C. themed area will have a generally themed store, granted I don't remember any D.C. themed stores (by physical appearance) outside of post ride gift shops. I feel the mix of D.C. and general makes it so it doesn't feel like either a franchise/hyper themed park, like Universal, Disney, SeaWorld ect., nor a more ride based general theme park like Cedar Fair, Busch Gardens, Hershey's ect.. The weird middle ground between D.C. themed and a more general theme park is certainly a valid critique of them as theme parks, but not as roller coaster parks/destinations.

As someone who worked at great adventure (ride ops 2010, photos 2011-2014), the ads are not only intrusive, but everyone is exposed to them, wether you’re a season pass holder or a worker. Jersey boys was possibly thier biggest advertiser, and the ads for it got so bad, I could tell you the time not from a watch but how long ago either a Frankie valley song played or is about to play. Yes it’s a ‘discount amusement park’, but when I worked there, SFGA was your only option for something of this size while still in NJ, at least during spring and autumn. Fright fest was fun, never worked there during December, and the super heroes and ExTrEmE coasters aren’t my thing.

Honestly when thinking on the most ads I’ve seen at a park, the Disney parks come up a lot in my mind!
I mean how the ads are on the monorail or on the side of a building and the public sees that it is cool!
Six Flags puts an advertisement somewhere and no matter where it is, the public views them as THE DEVIL!!!!
I mean I don’t mind them as theme park ads are probably the best ads as you aren’t forced to watch a 30 second clip every single ad that pops up with theme park ads.

Six Flags America has had the best operations out of that park, Kings Dominion, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg this summer. The ride ops clearly announce that there's 5 seconds to get through the gates and they really help the GP know what to do by yelling instructions. Kings Dominion idk what their issue was when I went but the lines were so long on a rainy Tuesday. Busch Gardens is responsible for the worst day I ever had at a theme park because the ride ops were letting people be sooo slow, and letting fast queue people into any random lane, train after train, leaving me next up for Alpeingest for 4 trains straight. Six Flags America is so funny and the energy the employees brought was great.

Not only do the majority of the parks have tons of great rides, but I loved the appearance and operations of many. There were few advertisements and each of the complaints detailed in the video were only really an issue at 2 or 3 parks. The only consistently bas thing in nearly every Six Flags park is the layout as it is extremely frustrating to get to rides and backtrack. Yeah not all of the rides are always up the whole time we're at the park, but they open and close them with enough regularity we still get to go on pretty much everything over the duration of the day.

One thing I don't like about Six Flags is how they deal with parks. They keep buying up and leasing parks and then they want to add a new attraction to every park. That's expensive and most likely hasn't equated to the turnout that they were expecting... and this has been going on for a while. I think things would be better off if they invested in parks that will most likely provide a turnout for the chain.

As someone who has lived near and has gone to Great Adventure my whole life, I staunchly support the complaints about the advertisements. While the park has always had an abundance of advertisements everywhere, it used to be either subtle or placed in a way that it fit in with the park. But over the last 10+ years, they company has gotten so lazy that they will stick ads onto literally anything without a thought about proper integration. The worst offender was when the Great American Scream Machine, one of the oldest and most well known coasters in the park, had all its cars plastered with ads for an off-brand hair gel???? It just showed the complete lack of care for their history and attractions. Beyond ads, I believe complaints are also valid about Fright Fest, but its because (like the ad placements) the park has gotten much lazier with it over the years; scaling down everything, and cutting back on the little things (characters, mini shows, etc.) that added to the experience but probably didnt cost that much extra to do...... Fright Fest at Great Adventure used to be a seasonal-must for everyone I know. Now it barely gets a mention

I agree with every point you made except for 11:22. SeaWorld is different from Six Flags in this aspect. SeaWorld's entire brand revolves around associating itself with sea creatures. The name of their chain is literally SEAWORLD. You would expect aquatic-themed rides and attractions at their parks (however, there are more sea creatures than mako sharks and manta rays and they could have chosen a different species for some of their rides so that they don't have any duplicate names). Six Flags' association with DC comes across as "money grab" to most people, not to mention SeaWorld does a far better job of theming their queues than Six Flags. Everything else in the video I agree with though

Cedar point made top thrill dragster, which was the tallest and one of the fastest coasters in the world. Then six flags hires the same exact guy to design kingda ka, but all they really do to change it make it 36 feet taller, a bit faster, and add a hill at the end to make the ride longer. If they had their own ride ideas I’d like them much more.

All this to say, I personally wish there were more clones of some of the more unique rides at other parks like west coast racers and others like that. At over texas we only have about 2 unique rides and they’re both just old, big coasters and one of them even has atleast one clone that I know of. The problem I have with the DC names is that they don’t use the same name when they clone a ride so you end up going to a different six flags and you want to ride the Harley Quinn ride and you get the one you pictured whereas the Harley Quinn at over texas is a 3-way spinning ride.

All theme park food is bad? That's the worst opinion I've heard in the entire video. You can't lump food in to the mix because its a chain. It's a chain of parks, not restaurants. I highly doubt they use the same recipes in every single park, and most parks actually have at least some good food food places, at least one awesome food place, then the REST are bad, but really it's only like 2 food places in any park that will actually be bad.

  • @trueedge2097
    @trueedge2097 3 роки тому +1

Good job here, man. I love SF too. They are not doing anything wrong per se. We could all split hairs or nit-pick for sure.
I believe their prices are just find. SF know its parks are one-day parks, not vacation destinations. They are positioned exactly for that. Now if you want to be comparative, it is entirely possible to get in to Disney World for cheaper. The caveat? You have to buy tickets for four days or more. The cost per day comes down to less than SF at that point, but you're committing to a week long stay, rather than a short trip.
But for Disney, that's perfectly fine. They have four parks in Florida, and there is plenty to do in the area. It's in your better interest to stay a week.
As for the food, I might disagree that theme park food is always bad. I've never had a problem with SF's food. But the ones I went to had Johnny Rockets and the like. I'm not sure SF it's really managing those places.
But I do know why this complaint exists. Parks like Disney and Universal have really good food. At Disney, that is one thing they are known for. They have high-end sushi chefs at the Japan pavilion at EPCOT.
So when you have experienced great park food, it is hard for people not to compare.
Cloned rides don't bother me either. For SF, this makes a world of sense. They have a dozen or more parks around the world. If you have a hit in one park, it only makes sense to share it across the others.
The only complaint I do have here is that they don't have a lot of consistency in naming these rides. The Joker in one park isn't the same as the Joker elsewhere. Batman the Ride is also not the same everywhere. It makes for a confusing discussion.
DC theming doesn't bother me either, but I do disagree here. There is a reason why this complaint exists.
Theming is ultimately what makes or breaks a ride EXPERIENCE. Not the ride, the experience. That is the Disney difference. Disney gets chided for not having many thrill rides (which isn't entirely valid). But they do not really suffer from it. They spend a lot of money fixing up the attraction to make it it's own little world, usually the world of whatever movie the ride is based on. Peter Pan is a good example. The queue takes you through the Darling's home, complete with a trip through the children's room exactly as it appears in the movie. And there is a light representing Tinker Bell that flits around the room toward the end.
They make the queue line fit the ride. And the ride itself is usually made specifically for what Disney is trying to accomplish. You don't see it anywhere else, for the most part.
But with SF. . .It is hit and miss for sure. There are some Batman the Rides where they have a good themed queue, going through the Batcave and the like.
But then there's Wonder Woman at Over Georgia. It's a typical caged swing ride. What is it that makes it Wonder Woman? The paint job and images they slapped on top of it.
Golden Lasso at Fiesta Texas is really good. Probably one of the better themed roller coasters with a DC look. But again, the queue is nondescript. And the only things that make it Wonder woman are the identification of the track with the Golden Lasso and the paint job on the cars. And to bring the point home, there is a clone of it at Magic Mountain by and entirely different name. Same ride. Literally the Wonder Woman paint job is the only thing that sets Fiesta Texas apart.
That isn't a good job of theming. It's pretty lazy. And that is what the complaints usually are for this DC thing.
I take it a little step farther. What DC are they theming? Is it the comics? The animated universe? The movies? Well, it's kinda the animated, but then they had a big to-do about the opening of Green lantern at Magic Mountain with the GL from the movie (this was at the movie's launch no less). So it's like they want us to connect it with the movies but only to a point.
It is understandably confusing to people who do go expecting the DC theme.
All in all, I love SF too. But I gotta disagree on some of these being completely invalid. We have to look at them closer.

Six Flags parks in particular are primarily aimed at semi-locals, people who aren't willing to travel just for the best rides. So cloning a popular coaster draws locals into the park, and also means more people get to experience it. Yeah, coaster enthusiasts who've been to every park in the country won't be happy with less options, but clone coasters aren't FOR them.

The one thing about the unkempt parks is that Fiesta Texas is my home park (and Over Texas is my home away from home park), and although some of the rides at Over Texas could use a new coat of paint, Six Flags does a good job with these two.

Fiesta Texas is especially well done. It considered the prettiest six flags park

Aesop Rock playing in the background. Or at least he sampled what’s playing in the background. You just gained more points from me

six flags = quanity over quality, cedar fair = quality over quanity, disney/universal = both yet neither at the same time

My problem with clones isn't that they're bad but it's nice having a unique experience going to different parks but clones make different six flags parks feel somewhat similar. They aren't terrible but they take away from my excitement to go to different parks a bit.

The only point you made that I really didn't agree with was other chains only work with a few manufacturers. Six flags really needs to branch out more. They always take the cheap manufacturer. Other chains are much more willing to try other manufacturers. I don't think it's the biggest deal but they are definitely behind in their diversity of manufacturers.

I got one of the “wild rides” on the 4D Batman coaster at Fiesta Texas.
Never ever have I wanted to get off a ride so badly. Some people may like it, but it just wasn’t for me. It felt like something the Joker would come up with.

Dude Six Flags Over Georgia was a good time and I hardly go out of Florida parks so to pay $29.99 for a park with over 10 coasters was a blast I would definitely do again!
