Why are Intamin Mega Coasters so Rare??

- One of the highest-rated coaster models is the Intamin mega coasters and as such, you'd expect it to be an incredibly popular model. However for some reason, we've only seen 9 of these and while that may seem like a lot, for a model this good, it's really not. So in this video, I dive into why Intamin mega coasters are so rare.

I wanted to quickly clear up because I don't think I made it clear in the video:
This isn't "why we won't see more" because depending on Kondaa's success I actually do think we could see more. This video is just trying to explain why we didn't see many in the past
Good point
Kondaa didnt success yet, its not open it just has alot of hype maybe because it is a new intamin mega
Kondaa was announced with a quadra-launch-blitz for france and it doesnt even gets a Quarter the hype kondaa gets
Edit: and i guess it will be disappointing, not being able to fit the immense expectations
Intamin isn't done in the US like you claim have you forgot velocicoaster and pantheon?
None of the accidents are Intamins fault. Get your facts correct
@@clubstep8244 the parc asterix blitz wont open until like 2030 at this point so maybe that’s why, and I’m a huge kondaa hyper but that park asterix blitz looks almost as good and on my channel I’ve hyped it up a lot, no one seems to hype up pantheon as much compared to iron gwazi or velocicoaster and the parc asterix blitz is very similar so that’s a weird thing, but I think pantheon will be the best new for 2021 coaster in America and I think the parc asterix blitz will be even better than pantheon
Let steel curtain live please 😅
You forgot to mention how B&M Hypers have great capacity!
And also great reliability, track record, and also GP pleaser.
And also great capacity, great track record, unbeatable reliability, and not scarily intense
And yes, also great capacity
Oh yeah I forgot about that
B&M definitely are great rides, I've been on Raging Bull and damn was it great
3:21 here is he talking about the capacity! Haha

Intamin is a tough beast to pin down. They change things up quite regularly unlike B&M who's stayed tried and true from the beginning
Agreed
A mega coaster would have been perfect at Phantasialand
Town of Brühl: *IT HAS TO BE UNDER 100 FEET*
Or they could dig underground
@@xcoasterenthusiast Which is what they already did with almost the entire park. Phantasialand is built in a hole.

I hope I can visit Phantasialand this year, and hope the amusement park industry isn't locked down until bankruptcy
Also like... where? They dont have space for a mega
"Its actually surprisingly cheap!"
oh boy could I buy one?
$12 million
ok never mind :(
Bro you thought you had enough money for a rollercoaster 😂
Superman the Ride is a classic mega coaster. I’m happy that it’s at my local Six Flags, New England to be exact
That coaster is so great
One of my favorites, and I can ride it on a full stomach
Intamin has always had more reliability issues than B&M... Plus several horrible accidents on their coasters/rides. I mean nobody has ever been ejected from a B&M coaster; that is insanely impressive considering how long they have been around and how many coasters they have made. They deserve to not be forced to put seatbelts on their coasters lol
I just realised that, nobody has been injured by a b&m coaster (by the ride)
If you're meaning people riding it's true but wasn't a kid decapitated by a batman clone because he lost his cap?
@@daftturnip51906 It happened at SFOG
Intamin still makes better coasters overall 🤷
@@blank3078 ikr, but a coaster of theirs has hurt someone tho, hasn't it?
With kondaa there will be 4 intamin mega coasters in europe that is dubble the amount of B&M hypercoasters in europe. its just that B&M Got the market in the US.
That's true. B&M kinda dominated the U.S and were more of a side player in Europe and Asia
Europe also has like 3-4 inverts, but wing coasters and dive coasters really getting bought over here
@@clubstep8244 Europe has like 7 inverts if I’m right
@@stijnvangurp9432 yeah they do
Nemmie
Inferno
Monster
Katun
Shadows of Arkham
Oziris

I think that’s it anyway but there is no shortage of inverts in Europe
No matter what manufacturer it is, I love all those huge, fast, airtime and speed focused Hyper/Mega/Giga coasters with simple sit-down trains, you can never go wrong with one of those.
*Clocks into work
*Sees coastoons upload

I hope it was worth it
I’d say Intamin isn’t focused on their large scale coasters right now. They have been building a relationship with Universal Studios, and they currently hold world records, which very few others are attempting to beat right now. I’ll count myself lucky That I305 is at my home park.
I would love to see more mack hypers, DC Rivals looks incredible
Agreed. They look like intamin hypers if intamin went full ham with inversions
I feel like Mack's are a good mix of B&M hypers and Intamin hypers. They have the intense layout of an Intamin and the reliability and price of a B&M. More parks should invest.
Mega coasters are really fun they are really special and look at Kondaa. I mean like, it’s a mix between a mega and a rmc.
Forget GeForce, Hyperion is the best Intamin I've been one. It has an insane drop, ejector, floater, positive forces and snappy transitions. It doesn't technically go upside down but the turn with the airtime and then crazy laterals as it pulls you to the side and down is just insanely good
Hyperion was a letdown for me. I wasn't really expecting much. I was blown away by the first few elements - the first drop is insane, the camelback after that is incredible and the turnaround section is unique. But after that it does kinda.. nothing.
Zarda was by far my highlight of energylandia.
Rcdb considers it an inversion
that's definitely upside down
4:28 Ah yes… the Rmc Hybrid Hybrid
I hope it caughts on, the price is just so good... heck even six flags could build them although I doubt they need to unless it's for their smaller parks. Poor intamin and their reputation
How did I just discover a channel that makes videos that are this good.
I think the park that has the best chance of getting an intamin mega in the US is Universal. They love working with intamin especially recently and I could see them putting a mega at studios but only if rip ride rock-it goes away.
You forget two things, the first: Thunder Dolphin had an accident in which a 25-centimeter (9.8-inch) long bolt fell off the attraction while in motion on December 5, 2010, injuring a 9-year-old visitor. Second B&M also makes mega coasters that are Hollywood Dream the Ride at Universal Studios Japan and Flight of The Himalayan Eagle at Happy Valley Beijing.
When I tell you I DIED at the Winona Ryder edit 😭
Gerstlauer has also hyper coasters like "der Schwur des Kärnan".
And its one of the best
that's exactly one
I've actually never ridden one but as an intamin fanboy i drool over these
also here are my reasons:
-capacity
-GP tend to shy away from crazy-intense rides
-capacity
-B&M has a perfect track record and is more reliable
-capacity
In my opinion, even know I love RMC… if we’re being real B&M is the best manufacturer. They’ve brought so much to the community including, Hypers, floorless, standup, dive, inverted, wing, flying, and a giga. Without this manufacturer, we wouldn’t have all of this.
Six Flags New England :) Good memories. I preferred Lake Compounce over it (my childhood home park), but I still have a soft spot for it.
To be 100% honest, I was expecting a very generic "thoosie" I love Intamin and here are reasons why I think parks should buy more! Type of video, but I must say that was really well thought out with lots of great points! Quality video, I am subscribing!
I mean I don’t blame them, enthusiasts care about the ride experience, and intamin nails that, we just want the best rides possible, and also new intamin is pretty reliable, and also at least intamin tries, B&M wouldn’t even attempt half of things intamin does, intamin moves this industry forward, and they create all of these cool new concepts and everything and they do whatever u want them to, and that to me is better than a reliable company with basic rides that can’t do anything u want them to, from a ride experience perspective, B&M is 10 years behind everyone else and intamin is 10 years ahead of everyone else, have u ever heard the saying the more u fail the more u succeed, well that’s basically intamin, and it’s the same reason I love S&S and arrow too
As much as I love intamin I feel like a lot of enthusiasts turn a blind eye to all the problems parks have to deal with
@@Coastoons agreed, but intamin still has their place with parks cuz they are extremely popular with guests, they aren’t afraid to try new things, and they can work around pretty much anything, it just depends on what route a park wants to go with a new coaster, if a park wants a coaster that they know will keep ppl coming thru the gates, they get a B&M, if they want to massively increase attendance, but know that could fail, they get an intamin
I was playing Super Mario 3D World and the music was perfectly synchronized 😄
God..... This video felt more like it was an hour long because it was so information dense! Bloody Brilliant!
Why does everybody forget that Xcelerator is an Intamin Hyper Coaster?
Six Flags has surprisingly started working with Intamin again by giving one of their parks in the chain an Ultra Surf coaster. It’s going to Six Flags Over Georgia for their 2024 edition as the park needed a launch coaster along side with a spinning coaster at the same time.
finally someone actually mentioned holiday world
Steel curtain is a masterpiece it’s a top 20 coaster itw, and the layout is probably the main reason why tbh
It looks great but it's pretty weird
@@Coastoons it’s very weird, but it works cuz it has insane pacing and is great at literally every type of force, I mean it’s literally in my top 3, and if u don’t count Lrod as a hyper then it’s my favorite hyper
@@MillenniumForceMan true
Steel Curtain is pretty compact, which is why it's designed the way it is... That park is pretty darn small. It's the same one that has three other coasters that go down ravines. Two of them cross tracks.
I love the Intamin Mega Coaster, I live about 10km / 6 miles from Goliath in Walibi Holland and ever since I was a kid i liked them.
Helix was actually supposed to be a mack hyper but liseberg changed their minds and went with a multi launch
lol I laughed when you said parks that are perfect for an Intamin mega and had Europapark in that list, the park owned by Mack, sure back then they didn't have mega coasters yet, but they do now, if silver star is ever gonna go away they'll put a mack hyper
Thunder Dolphin also had an accident. A bolt came loose somewhere on the track and hit someone on the ground when it fell. It was actually closed for around 2 years.
If Kondaa is a success, which it probably will be if the layout is anything to go off, then we'll definitely be seeing more of these around. Personally I hope we get one in the UK soon. Either that or a new-gen Vekoma would be sweet. Great video either way :)
I'd love to see B&M branch out more with their hypers. So many just feel like the same ride. The same good ride, though.
So relaxing to listen to mario soundtracks in the background.
Please keep using them! ☺️
Just a little thing: Phantasialand also wouldn't get a mega/hyper as they have a restriction which basically means that no track can be visible to anyone outside the park. To do this with a mega/hyper coaster would be INSANE
When brühl would get there head iut of there asses maybe we could get something cool 😂
@@Chaoshero5567 bruh you can't tell me taron and F.L.Y. aren't world class, black mambas a fantastic invert too
@@notsospoopybob sry, my wording just stoped working, i mean in form of hyper snd mega costers, and as my home park i fucking adore phantasialand
Nice video and you make some good points. I love my B&M hypers so no complaints here!
Gotta respect the B&M reliability. As far as i know they never ever had a major accident yet. It's something we don't pay much attention to, but i bet parks sure do.
Yeah B&M has a ton of things like that that enthusiasts don't really pay attention to
B&M's only major accident off the top of my head is the one time 2 trains collided on Valravn and tore up a part of the station.
You have to think that it’s cheaper to insure a B&M too because of their safety record.
I don’t because all they do is put chain lifts on their coasters and that’s it
Even though the Steel Curtain looks weird its still an amazing coaster. It doesn't top the Phantom's Revenge but the Steel Curtain is an amazing airtime and inversion machine.
Intamin is my favorite manufacturer I hope they do more in the us
I'm going to have to make a counterargument regarding terrain and hypercoasters. Granted, Dollywood is planning on installing a B&M, but they've got a _terrain_ hypercoaster planned that makes use of the mountain ridges in the area. You don't really need a lot of _flat_ land for a hyper, just a lot of land and some way of bringing the layout back to the station without relying on a launch.
Steel curtain may be weird, but it's amazing!
It's because, like other similar rides, Intamin Megacoasters and Megalites sit in a weird spot in terms of cost and stats. Larger parks want big numbers with their rides because that's what brings in the GP. Small parks can't afford them and often don't have the space.
Thunder dolphin also had an accident. A bolt flew off the ride and hit a rider. That's why most of the layout has a safety nets
Only if the GP wasn't so GP as then, the accident on Hyperion wouldn't happen.
When did that happen?

If the new megas are so cheap, I wonder how much it would cost for Six flags America to modify ride of steels second helix to add some sort of cool element
I’m blessed to have an amazing intamin hyper at my home park even though the park is rather small, and I love it to death, but every time I go to the park it reminds me why more of these didn’t get built: 2 ppl were ejected, the ride overshoots the brake run every 30 minutes, the brakes won’t release like every 30 minutes, the ride can’t run in any wind or rain, a rider is too big and can’t ride on like literally every cycle, the wheels wear out super quick, the transfer tires never work, the ride had a ridiculously hard time running to trains, seatbelts had to be added, the height requirement had to be raised, a trim brake had to be added, the sensors never work, the ride is programmed super inefficiently and there is 10 miles of straight track (ok maybe not that one lol). Yes this ride is the original intamin mega coaster and is a prototype, but that is one big list of problems, luckily intamin has learned from most of these tho (especially the straight track), ppl say top thrill dragster or lightning rod is the most unreliable coaster out there, no no no ride of steel at Darien lake is more unreliable than both of those rides combined, half of the days it never even opens, u could make a living off taking a picture every time the ride is stuck on the brake run, something is wrong if u didn’t see the ride go down at least one time on ur visit, and I’ve probably seen the ride of steel maintenance guy more than his own family has, words can’t even describe how unreliable it is
That’s too bad. The one at SFA has been running very well, at least in my experience last year as a season pass holder.
I do have to say Ispeed is probably one of the best intamin coasters I’ve ever been on in my life the sheer intensity of it was just ridiculous. Perfect coaster if you ask me.
This man is a top notch youtuber.
Yeah so uh I made a video about why intamin won't come back to the U.S. it'll be in the card or something idk it shouldn't be that hard to find.
4 minutes later: Once again i have a video on why intamin won't come back to the U.S. so look for it somwhere. idk its somewhere. 😂
I’d love to see more intamin hypers!
They should remove the U Bricks from Superman The Ride and like they can't give it the T Bars back, they should give it the Lap Bar restraints more recent Intamins are getting.
I was lucky to experience Superman with t-bars in ‘04 and the ride kicked ass.
So, Imo I think the perfect layout for intamin mega coaster could be Silverwood. They are making a new rollercoaster for 2021 called, stunt pilot. However, in my experience at this park I think they get rid of T.N.T & swap it for a intamin roller coaster with that space it is taking up. Their top 3 roller coasters are After Shock, Tremors, & I believe Stunt Pilot will be a welcomed addition to this park. The northwest doesn't have alot of theme parks so, this is where you could probably see a intamin roller coaster probably going.

This is clean, so I subbed 🧼👍🏼☺️
Haha „take in your surroundings” on Taron 😂 taron is definitely closer to maverick than to cheetah hunt, you don’t see so much of the theming, when you’re on it xd
"Why are they so rare?"
Me: *has one 30 minutes from my house.* 😂
Honestly it makes me sad cause I’d take an Intamin megacoaster over a B&M hyper basically any day. However, I can totally imagine getting a B&M for their reliability and capacity. You can’t stress the capacity enough, cause Europa Park is probably the busiest park in all of Europe and on its busiest day Silver Star only has a 30 minute queue max.
Also, this video really doesn’t apply to me cause there are 2 and soon 3 intamin megacoasters within 5 hours of driving distance from where I live lol (Goliath Walibi Holland, Expedition Geforce and soon Konda)
Hyperion is a reliable as any b&m and all stupid “reliability issues” come from hydraulic launches, cable lifts and coasters with many moving parts but it’s fixed now so it’s dumb that people assume it’s unreliable bc it’s from intamin honestly thoosies don’t have brain cells whatsoever
@@ninjxmi idk about today but back in 2020 Hyperion still had a LOT of downtime.

The megacoaster nowadays is basically just a blitz but with a lifthill... Intamin doesn't care about not selling the lifthill models. Because it doesn't cost them any money.

Same goes for the vekomas. They do not lose any money by not selling the model since it uses the exact same track, trains, etc.

B&M has sold more than 3 hypers in the 2010s right? Or didn't you include the ones under 200ft? Also there has been some more new on the SWO surf coaster
Under 200ft aren't hypers. The model might carry the name, but a hypercoaster under 200ft is as much a hypercoaster as pluto is a planet.

You got a new subscriber! I love controversial things 😂
Been on 2 of them, Silverstar and Hyperion both last summer
Hyperion best of the 2 imo
It’s interesting that other manufacturers are focusing on differentiating their mega coasters with the one factor parks clearly don’t focus on: Layout. Mack and Intamin don’t see success by making far better layouts because parks focus on capacity safety comfort reliability etc. I wonder why they don’t try making their product better instead of just the layout, because that seems like the only way to compete with B&M.
Really good point
Hansapark has a hypercoaster with an element i will not spoiler, but it makes the circle really long (4-5 Minutes from taking a seat to leaving the train) and therefor ruins the capacity.
However, der schwur des kärnan really put the Park on enthusiasts map and is the best coaster i have ridden
So what im trynna say: Its hard to find the most succesful Balance in Capacity/safety etc. And Uniqueness, and uniqueness is something Parks look for i thini
@@clubstep8244 But that’s exactly @Coastoons point, that a sustainable model needs more than the uniqueness factor that puts one park on the map. That’s why there’s not a lot of (One to be exact) Guerslaur hyper coasters. Models are rare and even one offs when established parks won’t really want one.

Ya jn America the intamin mega is really done for the next few years, there are a few parks that could do it, like silverwood, lagoon, smaller cedar fair parks (maybe) and the herschend parks are a few, but most kf the potential parks tk get this models truly don't have the revenue to get one rn, so it'll be a few years at least until a new mega coaster js here,
I’d like to see more Mack hyper coasters

velicocoaster:hold my red bull
They need to re-edit Orion by making it into a B&M Mega Coaster or a B&M Mega-Lite
8:00 I disagree, there’s hadn’t been a decline in B&M Hypers. They’re just getting taller. Remember, the B&M Gigas ARE Hyper coasters according to B&M. To get a B&M Giga, the park has to go to B&M and request a HYPER coaster that’s over 300 feet tall. B&M actually sold 7 Hypers in the 2010s, the same number that they sold in the 2000s. They also sold 2 in 2020 alone (Orion and Candymonium) with presumably more on the way.
My theory for why there’s a discrepancy for the number of Hypers that B&M builds and the number of Megas/Gigas that Intamin builds is simply that Intamin’s model lineup is far more varied. Intamin has 32 different models available, while B&M only has 7. I suppose parks just tend to choose other models by Intamin, and even then many chains don’t even work with Intamin anymore in the first place.
yeah thats what i was thinking but ig some people dont count the 300ft+ hypers as hyper coasters still even though they are the same model
Has a person with holiday world as my home park, I think they really need a Vekoma hyper, a Mack hyper, or a RMC rendition of legend. Holiday world will probably never work with intamin again though, because of the lawsuit from pilgrims plunge/Giraffica
