You're a magician as always. My voice improved since I encountered your channel.
    Now I have vibrato 😭

This was some of the best direction on isolating what sensations feel like ! When complex topics are broken down into their most base parts to explain how and WHY they create the end result, I find that the quite helpful in grasping concepts. A+

Thx for this I really needed to hear this from someone else because I’m so freakin tired and so fed up with other people telling me of what I gotta do to sing out

Vibrato has always (always) eluded me. And if I'm being honest, after watching your video, it is, still, very much so a mystery. But I did everything you were saying and... and I still don't understand it, but when I had "hand on the larynx, hand on the diaphragm" and did my "engine rev", nothing happened... I did it right with you and was going along but in my head, I was thinking "Alas, another dead end." And then you stopped, but I kept going and realized... nothing HADN'T happened; there was a baby vibrato coming out! And as soon as I noticed it, like a little hermit crab *POOF!* back into its shell it went. I've not done this "revving" cycle four times. I let the note out, nothing; I "rev", and boom, there it is. Uncontrolled, and weak, but it's there. (It's there!!) but my question is... why... hmm. What are the right words... Why can it show up for me when I do the "pulse" (and to be clear, it stays going between pulses/revs, even if it's weak or infrequent), but not otherwise? I still don't really understand what's happening! And why, when I do this, does it feel like that part of my chest is driving the vibrato even though when I watch people sing with vibrato, it looks like the back of their tongue is doing all the work in their throat? Whatever I'm doing currently doesn't seem to be engaging anything higher than that part of my diaphragm.

Before I watch I’m asking this: I have so many questions about Brandi Carlile’s vibrato... it’s intentionally placed but not “forced”... how does she make the “parabolas”/pitches/notes so wide apart and it still sounds so good?!? Okay gonna listen now...

I have had several classical singing teachers tell me that vibrato develops by itself once the voice is free enough/technique is good enough.

Hi mam. Ur video really helped me but iam still confused as to what is the right vibrato . Below the note or above the note ?. Or both. I edit many bollywood classical vocals on melodyne and usually see the vibrato below the main note.

Thanks, but I’ve never been able to do it except for forcing it. Also, I have no need for it and don’t understand the obsession with it. Fortunately I don’t sing opera.

Vibrato makes notes sound more free and alive. Straight tone *sounds* tense even if done healthily because it sounds closer to yelling. Think the climaxes of "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney or "All By Myself" by Celine. Straight tone has its place but vibrato gives the needed aural release from its aggressive sound. It's not just for opera or classical singing.
Vibrato is also usually a natural, direct result of healthy and open singing, as Madeleine discusses.

Vibrato is a sign that the air can flow freely & unobstructed. It is a natural part of singing healthy. If you have no vibrato, you have the wrong kind of tension somewhere. 🙏

Great video! So what does it mean when you had the healthy vibrato your whole life and after a long break from singing it seems to be gone or not working properly. It’s so frustrating but I don’t want to force it because I know it’s something you can’t force? Will I be able to get it back? Is it because my voice needs reconditioning??

@@tracymasters4817 just practice consistently singing with an open and relaxed throat, and proper support. It will come back over time.

@@tracymasters4817 It is just a matter of practicing. I started singing again around 40 & my vibrato is alive & well. Proper breathing & good support will do the trick. Good luck & lots of fun singing. 🙏🙏🙏

I usually like your videos and i love guided imagery, but this one was too vague, more precious instructions and details of goals needed, it wasnt to clear to me
