This is the best turtorial I have seen yet for the rice packs. Because you show every step it's very clear. You are also hilarious, I love how raw you are (not trying to be all overly professional) just being you.

Loved your video! My Mother made all of her children and grandchildren these years ago. She has since passed away and I am hearing from family members that they are in need of new rice packs. Being the oldest female in the family I am going to step into my beautiful Mothers shoes and make these for Christmas gifts. My heart was warmed watching your video and feeling the love that goes into a handmade gift. Thank you for your cheerful video. I truly enjoyed it :)

You’re so cute, Lindsay. I’m glad to see you reverse stitching, I don’t see other crafters doing that, it’s really important if you don’t want your project to come apart.

I use fleece as well so sure.. When I make mine I add three pouches so it holds more even but then I make mine for the humane society for all the little fur babies waking up from surgery

Hello Carol: can you tell me the width and length of these. I volunteer with LAWS and am wanting to me some for our nursing mothers. Their little titties hurt so much afterwards. The heat helps. It also gives mom a break with the kittens laying on the warm pouches instead of always with her.

Thanks for the video tutorial! My neck always gets sore after work from sitting at the computer desk all day. These would be perfect to melt the pain. I'd probably make mine with 4 channels instead of 2, and with handles on each end. A cover with 2 handles isn't a bad idea either. Thanks again!

Great. Would like to see how to make a removeable cover to wash. I appreciate this is not a video of someone with a giant room, large table, fancy set up but someone like me who is working in a bit crowded, cluttered -- more like the reality of most of us. Truly frugal!

Great idea Lindsay, This year my family wants to celebrate an "Ingle's" Christmas… meaning that we had to either buy an item at the goodwill store or make an handmade item. This will be perfect since I have tons of fabric and brown rice that my family does not like. I purchased a huge bag of brown rice at Costco and this will be a perfect way to use that bag up…thanks for the inspiration!

Great video. Great tip!!. I have made these~ years ago and did put lavendar, rose, rosmary, etc. in them. Sewing them down the middle is a idea. I do have every thing on hand... Iron- check, materia- check, rice - chex, aahh WAIT!!!... except...the sewing maching... darn, it too was damaged in the fire. I really should get another (cheap) one for project like this, cards, & mini albums. Ho hum... maybe next year...that's only a couple of weeks away... or maybe for Christmas....hehe

I made something similar one year for the "menfolk", only they were hand warmers, 3x6 inches. They would heat them up and stick them in their pockets to use while they were working out doors and when they would go hunting. We also used them as "bobo" packs, again 3x6 inches, (the perfect size). But I never thought about making them that size for your back and shoulders. Thank you.

Love your rice bag, but I was taught to do this with sand. The rice, if it gets damp it can mold, and then the bag get's yukie. With sand, you can even wash the bag if it needs it. I'm talking about playground sand. Along time ago, I was an occupational therapist and we used sand bags. Rice is a little lighter, but sand is cleaner.

Would you be able to mix flower buds like lavender or put some essential oils in it as well? I'm asking because I'm making one tomorrow for my s.o. grandmother and she has arthritic pain along with other things and I read frankincense and myrrh help but I dont know how those would smell and if they dont have a strong smell is like to add lavender buds for a relaxing note to it.

I never thought about using rice, but I might give that a try. I’ve always made them with buckwheat. As far as using teabags, in my opinion is not a good idea. With the steam that’s going to be created it might actually make the tea leaves moldy. I would stick to using essential oils.for scent
