Liza first came to Australia in 1967 and while playing a cabaret engagement at Sydneys Chequers nightclub, she was featured on Channel Nine's "Bandstand" program. Liza returned to Australia in mid 1968,also performing at Chequers.According to the credits of this special, many of the crew from the earlier "Bandstand" show were also involved in the production of this special.
By 1968 , which this special is from Liza closet to four years stage craft behind her. Her singing and dancing is so fresh for the time it was made. What a premonition! She sings Cabaret even before she did the movie, only one year after the musical opened on Broadway with Jill Haworth, and one year before the London production with Judy Dench.
I was trying to work out the timeline. Would she even have thought that she may have been up for a film version I wonder? Or just that it was recent hit show? And not like an Aussie show would have necessarily been seen outside of the country. Amazing coincidence! 🤩
