@ktrails Hey @ktrails, I'm now riding the Begode ET Max on the street and getting good, especially at speed. On the dirt trails, I take the Lynx (better traction and shocks off-road). I can't say which I prefer; it depends on what kind of terrain I'm going to be riding on.

Knowing you felt like quitting because your legs were so sore was really helpful. Being 62 and starting out on a Lynx is HARD, but I’m making slow progress. After 3 days of working on dirt and grass, I moved to pavement and did my first hands-free rolling starts. Still can’t skate very well, but I’m keeping after it. Anyway, again, thanks for the video. It really, really is helping me!

@@firstlast9813 great questions. Honestly... you will answer all of them pretty quickly as soon as you get your wheel. Just keep in mind this... it will hurt to the point that you might hate it. Once your muscles adapt.. you will LOVE IT to your core. And for the Question #1 - yes.. its a leaning motion.. not twisting. Took me a while to realize that once you trust the wheel. And for #2 - sitting limits your freedom of motion, it can be fun too.. but not as much as standing, IS NOT A MOTORCYCLE, sitting is more difficult, more dangerous, harder to break, turn, etc etc.. sitting is just a 'good to have', dont worry you wont be doing it much. Honestly I sit only at red lights or waiting for my hotdog at the foodtruck.

Awesome topic! You're the first to address this topic and I think you're spot on. Well done and thank you for doing it. Developing knee stability is gonna help prevent soreness and injury. I do a very specific regime in the gym that's targeted to just riding and it has helped me huge. In my first 5 minutes of learning how to ride I recognized that the number one vulnerability is definitely gonna be the knee joint, and I'm not talking about banging up your knee caps, I'm talking about twisting at the knee, MENISCUS and LIGAMENTS.

It,s very motivating in general. For a twink like me, it sure is a struggle to ride a heavy Unicycle especially when it,s my first EUC. Bought a Gotway RS HT couple of weeks ago which weighs 31kg and is pretty high off the ground, I,m still struggling to keep it up straight any way I can. Shin sure hurt every time I go out to practice. I think something i need to do and havent done is lower the tire psi. But this is what I wanted, I bought it and your video really motivates to just push forward, pretty literally.

Hey Zen, thanks for this, great advice for would-be masters of the Master (Master-blasters!). And pay no mind to any Master-haters nor Master-baters!
I saw on the video a couple of moments where your dual axis pads came loose; if you put the lowest hook up into the middle receiving hole, having drilled a new receiving hole for the middle hook just midway between the rivet and the existing mid hole (see Marty’s Leatt mid axis modification video), thereafter your knee pads will neither slip down nor come off on their own. Be sure to move the protective backing out of the way of the drill bit, like Marty shows. Check it out!
Oh, and if you do aspire to own the Master as your first wheel, I’d strongly recommend putting as much baby bump padding on its vulnerable parts for the first season, otherwise your prize possession will become somewhat beat up before you’ve mastered it; you’ll instinctively know when it comes time when you can remove it, and show the wider world your lovely, still new looking wheel!

I am 62 years old and have about 2 months of riding my Inmotion V5F. I also started a channel called EUC SENIOR. Just to show people who are older that it IS possible to ride an EUC. I just stepped up to the Inmotion V11Y and I struggle with its weight. Especially on left turns. I have a dominant right leg so between that and the heavier weight of the V11Y as opposed to the much lighter weight of the V5F is really scarring me when I ride. It seems it makes QUICK left turns on the V11F and with that heavy weight scares me very much! I still struggle trying to even free mount with the V5F and maybe it’s because I never built up my core muscles like you demonstrate in your video? Thank you for putting together this video! I have big long heavy freeride powder ski's. This is most similar thing to skiing with them I have ever felt, even more than waterskiing.
Pedal pressure while carving gives surprisingly similar floaty feeling on turns as on pow. Accelerating on slope you keep solid stanse and lean a bit forward. When braking I tend to carve a little, just feels like incorrectly done skiing stop. I guess over time the more you use the same stabilizing leg, the more the opposite leg is weaker, which i would think cause some imbalance in a ride. Thanks Zen! I couldn't agree more. I adjusted my workouts to provide greater core and leg strength. My workouts were more focused on upper body and cardio. In addition, I spent quite a bit of time going from a standing to a seated position in order to just transition seamlessly between the two. Dead mans and squats really help there and doing this really helped my riding confidence.

Met a fellow EUC rider in my neck of the woods. He had some 'Ninebot' or something? Much, much lighter than my KS16X and with that I could do the "turn around in circles thing", but darned if I can do it with the 16X. If I press hard enough to hold it up then I'm pressing hard enough for it to accelerate away from me, so it's a bit confusing.

I want to give myself the best chance possible. I lost just over 60 pounds this year and plan on losing more to be under 200 lbs by next spring so I can be more fit in general.

I mount with right dominant leg, it takes me a little bit to get left leg onndue to a higher wheel. (Sherman S) The wheel pivots to the left too much as I'm one legged with my right foot only (sometimes). Am I too far forward on the right pedal which is causing it to turn left? I never really mastered one legged riding.

@@ZenLee because it has hard edges, it takes all impact from the hit into one point and transfers in concentrated in to one point on the shell. Straight into battery. Hard pads are terrible.
Better make foam or yoga bricks pads, they can absorb impact instead of transfering to the shell. Also Clark pads don't save corners, with foam or yoga bricks you can make pads wider and safeguard the most often hit areas - top corners. Same time save wheel and battery from damage. Clark pads is just over advertised soulless tpu print. Nothing special, uncomfortable to ride, all riders have to add foam, cut, modify it to make it good.

What sucks about a motorcycle compared to EUC: Motorcycle not very portable, can't fit it in my car or bring it up my stairs to apartment. Having to pay insurance, plus other fees/paperwork. Electric Motorcycles don't have very much range yet, so you'd have to get a gas bike, which means paying gas, which isn't too much on a bike but still adds up. With EUC I can also go in bike lanes and mtb routes, ride in awesome parks like Floyd Lamb Park, where the skydio footage is from...so many benefits really.

The first wheel I bought was a Sherman... it sat in my lounge room for about 3 months. I bought a used MCM5V2 for cheap and learned to ride that... then I could ride the MCM5, but I didn't want to drop my new Sherman... so I wanted something between the MCM and Sherman... so I bought a Nikola plus... I still have all 3 machines and love them all. I suggest any new rider paying $4k for a new wheel... who could beat it to death before they can learn to ride it... so when they CAN finally ride, the Sherman looks like sh!t,,,
If you are going to pay $4k (or almost) for the latest, hottest offering... look for a beat up cheap stoopid wheel like a V5 or KS14 that still works, but looks beat up and scratched... might cost you $250 or whatever... but at least once you have learned to ride the crappy one, you won't wreck your Master trying to learn on it.
Trying to learn on a big heavy wheel is do-able... but it is like trying to get your license in a city bus when you can't drive a car yet... or trying to learn to drive in a Zonda or Lamborghini... ok, buy a Lambo... but then get a Toyota Corolla to actually learn to drive... so you don't smash up the Lambo trying to learn.
Trying to learn on a Master, could be expensive... they CAN be quite brittle and might not stand up to many crashes without needing repair. The batteries are quite exposed, if one gets damaged, it may cost $800 per battery to replace. If you buy a used V5 for $300... you can learn on it... then have endless fun watching your friends try to learn it... or sell it on. Just what I would do (and did do)

Why use your own heavy euc and maybe bust it? If you cant buy a small, cheaper weenie wheel, just find a riding buddy who does and borrow it to learn. The added benefit is you also find someone to help and encourage you. I would not recommend learning on an expensive one not because you drop it but because my weenie euc got away from me and drove into a curb, cracking the shell a bit. Not really a big deal on this one though. I got my beginner wheel at goodwill for a benjamin and it was brand new but had 9 year old cells so it would shut down in about 2 minutes of just rocking it. They must have fallen off, hoarded it in the garage and gave up as the tire still had those little whiskers. I Dont give up even if you get shin splints and foot pain and fatigue. Mosly foot pain.
