Pretty sure the 3 "scottish" horns (Iron, Pukei and Anja) come from the Moga Village theme when the argosy is in port in MH3. It’s the same type of sounds and the melody seems to match.
What I think would've been a great idea is if the hunting horns all played the song that's currently playing in the game but each with a different instrument voicing. The effort you made with matching armor and weapons with the monster you're fighting all across the different games was a really great touch ! Great video !
I feel like the Magia Charmbell is just referencing the inevitable sparkly twinkly sound effects you get during transformation sequences in most magical girl anime. This is the nicest comment I've ever gotten! I'm very glad that people actually notice all those little details sprinkled in. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment
This is a lovely video for Hunting Horn mains out there. Thank you for the effort! Most of the Horn themes are based on the monster's original theme. Bazel's horn is probably also based off the beats of Bazel's theme just sped up.
The Pukei, Anjanath, and Kulu horns are just a stand-in for World’s secondary HH melodies on Iron Bagpipes and Bone Horns. As for a base melody…yeah I got jack. For Bazel too. WAIT It might be his mount theme. Bazel’s mount theme has hella bongoes.
it's clear how much effort was put into this video, fantastic job and really interesting, I might just have to pick up hunting horn again! Here's hoping for some more great horn themes in sunbreak :D
And this is why I don't agree with people when they complain about the horns sounds, only thing I wish for was that the music they play was a little louder, Just a little.
I thought the same. I hate self promotion but I guess it is appropriate here. I actually released a mod package that raises the volume of all hhs a bit :D
11:47 I feel like this one is just supposed to reference Magical Girl anime. I assume that's why the sound has never changed, it just became a reference to itself.
This video looks like so much work, massive props to you for making such a well edited video about hunting horns! I got super distracted from work by watching this lmao
In world Iceborne, horns with base metal and bone parts that could swap also change how the notes sounded I think its cool they gave more horns matching tunes to ingame music, its one of my favorite things of HH, one that I always remember is the Zamtrios HH that plays the frozen seaway theme
I hadn't realized how close those melodies were to some ingame music, thanks for the vid! For my defense i only recall playing khezu's, nargacuga's and zinogre's Horns in mhrise ^^'
The Great bagpipe, Datura Lurr, Forte Flammenkornett, are all the Iron Bagpipes melodies from MHW's version of the great bagpipe. No reference, they are unique melodies created for the base bone and Iron weapons in World. Since World had 3 melodies per hunting horn, they chopped some of the melodies and gave them to others to cut down on resources. Potentially this is due to MHW's handling on the bits on sticks weapons it gets a bit messy. There are the base's and the parts. Each base HH type gives off a different melody except Kulve with Kjarr, and Kulve+ with Kjarr+. Those melodies play regardless of which parts are on the weapon. HOWEVER, each part adds its own little bit to all three melodies a HH can produce. My personal favourite is Coral Pukei Pukei parts since its from "I want to dance because I'm a hunter." This makes the number of combos very high for the HH. It can also be proven, combine a base Lunastra HH with Coral Pukei's parts and you get a melody that doesn't exist in the game's natural progression. Since MHR was designed for the switch, It'd make sense to cut down the size of sound files for the HH because of the bits on sticks weapon system from MHW. It all ties in to how the bits on sticks weapons were meant to be more fleshed out. As you'd upgrade the weapon it'd change colour corresponding to its elemental path. Its why some bits on sticks base's look tinted yellow for thunder, blue for water, light blue for ice, black for dragon and red for fire (although red was re-used for defender weapons due to time constraints). You can use the bits on sticks system to make weapons of different combos since the tint is applied to the weapon and not accessible through the bits on sticks system. Take a dragonsteel/dragonbone weapon, then make it into a kjarr base, then compare with an actual kjarr weapon. The dragonbone/dragonsteel weapon is darker as a mesh has been applied to that weapon. Some weapons lose it though their upgrade tree's or are relocated. For example, the "thunder" tint mesh for the greatsword is on the thunder tree, which turns into Zinogre's GS. But since Zinogre's GS isn't in world (rip) the thunder mesh is still on the weapon. Remove the base and you get a yellowy GS. This doesn't apply to unique weapons. Take the yellow tinted GS and make its base Lunastra’s and it turns green (blue+yellow). All Ice mesh's are not accessible due to Barioth existing and eliminating any maxed out ice tinted bits on sticks weapons. However you can see the ice mesh as it upgrades in it’s tree. The water mesh for the GS is on the water path, but once in MR it loses it in coral pukei’s tree. This is because it moved to beotodu’s placement which continues to hold the mesh and was moved due to an Ice creature being the end of a water tree making little consistency. Hence why beotodyus has the water mesh. Each tint's mesh also applies a visual effect aside from colour. Dragon looks damaged, thunder looks scratched, ice looks frosted over with a little bit of a reflective property, water looks... wet, reflective and slightly transparent. The only one I'm not 100% on is the fire tint mesh. This is because its on the defender weapons which can't be customised. But considering the lack of status mesh's and the cut content surrounding the bits on sticks weapons, it's plausible that the defender weapons contain the fire mesh.
i Noticed this as soon as i played the Horn this changed was also in World but they went all out in Rise its why i have grown from a HH main to an addict. its the best feeling ever when you get the timing of the song right
Yess omg thank you so much for making this video! I've also noticed some of these!! For the bullfango horn, I've always thought it sounded like the Arctic Ridge theme?
Definitely one of my favorite parts about the horns is that even if a theme is repeated, the music is often different because of the weapon being based on a different instrument IE: tetra horn having drums despite it being just the frost island theme
I'm glad that they used the Rise version of Khezu's theme because out of all the themes it's had, the version in Rise is far and away the absolute best +1 sub not just because of the time and effort put into obtaining all of those horns but also the amount of work it must've taken to narrow down the exact snippet of each theme, especially the older ones. Hell I've played Monster Hunter since the PSP era and I didn't recognise the exact part of the Jungle theme despite it being one of my favourite maps.
I love that the hunting horn songs are based on monster themes this time. Makes me want to collect them all lol. Fave rn is Espinas, lunagaron and vicello white. Espinas in particular goes HARD lmao
I feel like the Pukei-Pukei and Anjanath horns kind of resemble the theme for Astera a little, I dunno, I get that vibe from 'em. Bazel's a lot of drumming, but it feels like it's the drumming part of its theme that it emphasizes.
Rathian's horn, if I'm not suffering from a mendella effect and remember correctly, has actually appeared and is a reference to an old sound that played in either gen 1 or 2, probably both. It's from the old forest and hills zone and if I remember it plays either when you first discover that "secret" zone on the top left of the map where the veggie elder hangs out at, or ramdomly when you run in there. It's hard to say where it's 100% from because it's been so long now that I've played a gen 2 game but I'm sure it's the theme that plays for whatever Monster Hunter qualifies as you discovering a secret.
Hmm, I never even knew about this sound. Thanks for pointing this out, I haven't played a Gen 1/2 game myself since I started with Gen 3. It's time to start searching around!
ooh, I didn't know about that, I need to see for myself. That would make a lot of sense if that was the case, since it would be a great reference to Rathian's origins. Thanks for pointing this out
Oh I figured out the Fungasax connection, you are 100% right that's the Moga village theme, the reason for that is that when the Fungasax was introduced in Generations (or X if you prefer) a part needed to make it was Yukumo wood, only available on Misty Peaks map. This map was first introduced in MH Tri, and Moga was the main village for that game. Kinda like Bherna village and the wind horn!
This video is really well made and interesting, must have take a lot of time and effort to make. Hope it makes tons of views, it deserves! Also i really loved this touch of each HH having its own music effect, it made them all fell unique. :)
Thank you! And the HH's having the themes for their melodies is probably my favorite part of them in Rise. I hope they continue doing this in every game to come
I don't use this weapon much myself, but I always found criminally underrated how close to nobody ever gives credit to the huge work behind the sound effects for each of these "horn" types
Awesome work, makes me want to grab HH! I remember Red Khezu horn suddenly becomes a soothing flute once you upgrade it, perhaps we can get something like that in Sunbreak
In world / Iceborne, depending on the order in which you play your list (pressing triangle or circle while playing to start with the 2nd or 3rd song in your queue) you get a different part of the song, or a reversed version
After listening to the Iron Tree hunting horn I think it's based on the horn that plays when departing on a quest. The bone and Kulu-Ya-Ku's sounds kind of like a vuvuzela (minus one or two octaves)
Most of the worldborne and some monsters from worldborne's horns and directly from the one of the three soundtracks of those horns (worldborne has 3 songs per horn) especially noticeable in iron bagpipe and kul/anja horns as the latter are the song 2 of the iron horn line and the former is the song 1. This probably bears mention I guess World had many general types of horns: pipes (like iron bagpipes, taroth pipe), drums (like bazel, defender, lunastra, nergigante and rajang), wind horns (dodogama, deep vero (deviljho) and bone horns), bells (Queen chordmaker, glavenus, velkhana sort of), strings (teostra, yian garuga's shamisen, legiana), electric guitars (zinogre only if we go by sound, fatalis looks wise) and special theme ones (fatalis, alatreon, safi'jiva and austere paradise (shara ishvalda))
For anjanath and pukei pukei horns, they are indeed from world iron horn. If you do an encore in World, the melody change depending on when you start the encore. Same for the kulu ya ku horn and the bone horn
That was the first thing I noticed when someone was using a hunting horn was that "It's a whole song!" I am gonna miss the old noises though, but the new music is also pretty good. Queen's Chordmaker also makes me think of: 祖なる龍 The White Fatalis theme Magia: It's a magical girl thing. Magical girl wands make that shining, ringing noise. Iron Tree: Maybe the sound of a potion activating? Or the opening nots to 目覚め(From 'MONSTER HUNTER') played fast? Pukei-Pukei / Anja : 可愛いアイルー(From 'MONSTER HUNTER PORTABLE') maybe or 青天 From Monster Hunter 2 (dos) Bone Tree: Babaconga theme?, honestly a lot of themes have that deep drumming opening. Bazelgeuse: Maybe from Dodoblango theme opening, though it sounds similar to the music that plays when bone hunter shows up in the MonHun NCH videos, Yian Guruga DOS theme? It's like I've heard it in a chase theme before as a short bridge between the orchestral parts.
Why is everyone hating on my boi Khezu and his screeching Hunting Horn? I mean look at it from the perspective of all other monsters: a small noodley ape-like "thing" wielding a contorted and misshapen version of another creature as a beating stick... and the creature is screaming while you get your skull bashed in by said noodle ape, oh who also happens to be wearing parts of other creatures on him (we call it armor). That is the scariest sh!t any monster will see that day.
Truly impeccable that khezu’s horn plays the entirety of the monster’s theme.

This is the nicest comment I've ever gotten! I'm very glad that people actually notice all those little details sprinkled in. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment
Damn, now I want an entire Cello cover of the Shrine Ruins theme. That sounds too good
It sounds really good; it would be awesome to have the whole theme!
@@BakeNation_MH damn right
Great job researching all the melodies and matching them with the HH! Awesome video!
Thank you!
Holy shit. What an amazing video. I hope the devs see it, and know we appreciate the care they put in. I love Rise.
Great Video!! This was really cool to see!
Loved the Khezu part.
Loved all the hard work. Hard work, interesting content!
This is a lovely video for Hunting Horn mains out there. Thank you for the effort! Most of the Horn themes are based on the monster's original theme. Bazel's horn is probably also based off the beats of Bazel's theme just sped up.
I just love that Khezu's tree's are just horror shows and the horn's tree kept this theme strong with a sound theme to match
The Pukei, Anjanath, and Kulu horns are just a stand-in for World’s secondary HH melodies on Iron Bagpipes and Bone Horns.
As for a base melody…yeah I got jack. For Bazel too.
WAIT
It might be his mount theme. Bazel’s mount theme has hella bongoes.
Oh my Gog, you might be right about Bazel!
it's clear how much effort was put into this video, fantastic job and really interesting, I might just have to pick up hunting horn again! Here's hoping for some more great horn themes in sunbreak :D
If this video made someone play HH, I would be over the moon!
i shouldn't be surprised that the Valstrax horn plays his theme, but BOY am i happy it does
Same here, I am glad they chose that specific part of the theme too
Some of these had me stumped, thank you so much
This was a perfect video
Liked n subbed
I would believe it, it was mentally exhausting trying to figure some of these out! And thank you, we appreciate the support!
To every single HH main out there. You're amazing and appreciated. I'd choose you as a partner over any other weapon. 🙏🏻💪🏻
Khezu flute is now my new favorite horn!
And this is why I don't agree with people when they complain about the horns sounds, only thing I wish for was that the music they play was a little louder, Just a little.
I wouldn't mind them being a bit louder too, so you can really hear it amongst all the other sounds there are.
I thought the same. I hate self promotion but I guess it is appropriate here. I actually released a mod package that raises the volume of all hhs a bit :D
Oooh, I'll have to take a look!
The quality is fantastic!!
Excellent work Hunter! Sunbreak now!
Magia charmbell is just "magical girl transformation sfx.mp3"
Very cool and well done video.
11:47 I feel like this one is just supposed to reference Magical Girl anime. I assume that's why the sound has never changed, it just became a reference to itself.
Great video! I love the editing and the shots you chose for the intros of each horns. My favorite is the Somnacanth one, the song just sounds so cool.
Somnacanths HH does sound REALLY nice
As a small rcreator myself i really can appriciate HARD work of small channels. gj mate
thank you! :)
There is nothing more satisfying than timing the horn with the theme of the fight
Guess I am not the only one lol
This video looks like so much work, massive props to you for making such a well edited video about hunting horns! I got super distracted from work by watching this lmao
I appreciate the compliments! It took me around 3 and a half months to make this from start to finish
In world Iceborne, horns with base metal and bone parts that could swap also change how the notes sounded
I think its cool they gave more horns matching tunes to ingame music, its one of my favorite things of HH, one that I always remember is the Zamtrios HH that plays the frozen seaway theme
I didn't know about the Zamtrios HH playing the Frozen Seaway theme, neat
I hadn't realized how close those melodies were to some ingame music, thanks for the vid!
For my defense i only recall playing khezu's, nargacuga's and zinogre's Horns in mhrise ^^'
Well then I am glad I was able to make you aware of this! 😁
Those tri monster hunting horn melodies triggered a strong feeling of nostalgia in me
The Great bagpipe, Datura Lurr, Forte Flammenkornett, are all the Iron Bagpipes melodies from MHW's version of the great bagpipe.
Guess I didn't realize how in-depth the sounds these HH's made were, thanks for explaining all of this!
Dang, I never even knew they played specific melodies. I love this amount of detail!
Amazing job man!! love all the poses with beautiful background!!
This is amazing! Thank you for taking the time to make this!
Thank you! I’m glad you like it
Can't imagine how long this must have taken to put together. Thanks so much!
Thank you! It certainly took some time, but it was satisfying putting it all together.
Khezu's horn fits its theme really well
i Noticed this as soon as i played the Horn this changed was also in World but they went all out in Rise its why i have grown from a HH main to an addict.
its the best feeling ever when you get the timing of the song right
Hell yeah, I've been havung trouble what layered horm I want on my rampage horns so this vid is gonna be helpful as hell!
Wonderful job on identifying all these themes!
Excellent video, clearly tons of work put in to the research, and the clips even matching
Yess omg thank you so much for making this video! I've also noticed some of these!!
For the bullfango horn, I've always thought it sounded like the Arctic Ridge theme?
Hmm, I will have to take a look at the Artic Ridge theme!
Definitely one of my favorite parts about the horns is that even if a theme is repeated, the music is often different because of the weapon being based on a different instrument IE: tetra horn having drums despite it being just the frost island theme
This is some dedication here, I love it !
Man this just reminds me of how great and fun almost all themes in Rise are!
The themes of Rise are phenomenal, there are very few that I dislike
This is amazing! I also like the added weapon poses and the gestures. More HH coming when Sunbreak hits
You certainly know I am making another video just like this for Sunbreak!
This was really well put, amazing job :)
Props, nice find on these music. My ears are really bad distinguishing whatever so I find this impressive
I'm glad that they used the Rise version of Khezu's theme because out of all the themes it's had, the version in Rise is far and away the absolute best
+1 sub not just because of the time and effort put into obtaining all of those horns but also the amount of work it must've taken to narrow down the exact snippet of each theme, especially the older ones. Hell I've played Monster Hunter since the PSP era and I didn't recognise the exact part of the Jungle theme despite it being one of my favourite maps.
Underrated channel with a great potential, time to spread awareness!
Very good video and straight to the point
i do want to clarify that silver-winged scarlet star is also not a new theme in rise, as valstrax was originally in mhgu
Really cool, thanks for putting in the time!
I believe the Bullfango Horn also comes from Sanctuary Abandoned by the Gods at around 44 seconds in, or at least it seems to fit very well.
This is the detail we wanted to know about, thanks for the complication. Also those pose shots are primo.
Wow what a crazy and detailed video. Nice work
Thankies!
Amazing watch, thanks for making this video.
This is why I convert to HH main since World. Really interesting weapon
As well as the complete overhaul to their playstyle, they almost feel like an entirely new weapon in Rise
Wow. That would have never crossed my mind, but that's a brilliant observation!
I never knew that about the red khezu horn. That would be pretty cool if we did get that in Sunbreak
I want full versions of all of them so bad now
I feel the exact same way!
If it wasn't so darn hard to hear over the other sound effects going off.
The love the sound of the Bone Horn because I also play a bit of didgeridoo myself
That's pretty cool! I was wondering what instrument the Bone Horn was based off of
In world / Iceborne, depending on the order in which you play your list (pressing triangle or circle while playing to start with the 2nd or 3rd song in your queue) you get a different part of the song, or a reversed version
great bagpipe sounds like the horn that plays when you start a quest in the old games
This probably bears mention I guess
World had many general types of horns: pipes (like iron bagpipes, taroth pipe), drums (like bazel, defender, lunastra, nergigante and rajang), wind horns (dodogama, deep vero (deviljho) and bone horns), bells (Queen chordmaker, glavenus, velkhana sort of), strings (teostra, yian garuga's shamisen, legiana), electric guitars (zinogre only if we go by sound, fatalis looks wise) and special theme ones (fatalis, alatreon, safi'jiva and austere paradise (shara ishvalda))
For anjanath and pukei pukei horns, they are indeed from world iron horn. If you do an encore in World, the melody change depending on when you start the encore.
Same for the kulu ya ku horn and the bone horn
I’m hunting horn player, that why I love this video ❤; great Job dude!
Thank you!
That was the first thing I noticed when someone was using a hunting horn was that "It's a whole song!" I am gonna miss the old noises though, but the new music is also pretty good.
Queen's Chordmaker also makes me think of: 祖なる龍 The White Fatalis theme
Magia: It's a magical girl thing. Magical girl wands make that shining, ringing noise.
Iron Tree: Maybe the sound of a potion activating? Or the opening nots to 目覚め(From 'MONSTER HUNTER') played fast?
Pukei-Pukei / Anja : 可愛いアイルー(From 'MONSTER HUNTER PORTABLE') maybe or 青天 From Monster Hunter 2 (dos)
Bone Tree: Babaconga theme?, honestly a lot of themes have that deep drumming opening.
The design choice they made with the khezu flute was perfect
Pretty sure pre GU a full upgrade khezu flute would roar for notes but have an angelic like choir when you performed. I loved it.
